01 Tacoma Transmission Whining problem

Hi Everyone, first post here (longtime member of TTORA) even though I've been lurking for several years now. But I have a problem and the people here seem to be more knowledgable on transmissions than at TTORA.

01 Tacoma 4x4 Auto V6.

One day, my tranny started whining. This only occurs in D, 2, or 1. No sound in N.

When I put the transfer case in N, and the tranny in D, the whine goes away. It whines in 4hi, and 2hi. I can't really tell if it whines in 4-Lo bc the engine sound and transfer case sound is too loud. Everything else seems to work properly, no slipping or anything....

It sounds almost like a supercharger, except not quite as loud. However, I can easily hear it with the windows up and down.

It is definitely not the transfer case. I crawled underneath the truck and the sound is clearly coming from the bellhousing, near the engine. I changed the tranny and T/C oil regularly and nothing is out of the ordinary.

Any thoughts??? Thanks.

Put some LUCAS TRANS AID in it. Great stuff, it works. might be a quick fix for 10 bucks.

thanks, I'll try that. Sounds like it's coming from the torque converter...
