01 Tacoma lift thoughts
Ok guys im not gonna ask some stupid question like how big to fit xx tires, there are too many stupid threads already on here, i just finished the tread were some guy thought a body shop stole his stock gears and put in 2:71s
Anyways basically i have an 01 4wd ext v6 taco. I need tires soon and will replace the factory 265/70/16 tires with some 32x11.50x15 bfg AT tires. Now i know i will need about 2.5 inc up front to clear those tires.
My question is about method for achieving the 2.5 inc of FRONT lift:
METHOD 1- would be using the bilstien 5100 adjustable shocks and factory coil to gain the lift. What i don't like about this is that the stock coil will be preloaded more to gain the lift and will probably give me a crappy stiff ride and severely reduced up travel if they are cranked up to the 2.5 inc lift setting. I do not want these downsides since i actually use my truck off road and its a stiff lift is useless in any environment.
METHOD 2 -would use the bilstien 5100 shock with the collar all the way down at the 0 inc lift stock location. The lift would then come from what i just recently saw while searching online. Toytec sells 3 inc lift front coils by ebiach springs and i assume that by placing these 3 inc lift coils on a factory setting bilstien 5100 shock i will gain the 3 inc lift without losing up travel or having a severely stiff ride from excessive preload changing the spring rate. Am i correct in this?
It seems to me that method 2 is the best way to gain 2.5-3 inc of front lift, has anyone else run this setup and care to share their thoughts. Ive searched and just seem to come up with mall crawler drop bracket kits for posers, crappy spacer lifts, or all LT kits which i cant afford anytime soon.
Thanks for any help and sorry for the long post i wanted to be detailed in my explanation.

Im happy with the bilstien hight adjustable shocks but i used toytec 3'' lift coils in the front of my 01. So If you go with a lifted coil then you don't even need adjustable shocks, but they weren't much more $$. The down travel is reduced but not enough to worry about.
Plus your front end will have more ground clearence then other yotas with bracket lifts. Mine actually does better in real deep snow then tacos with 4'' lift.
I recently put f-150 springs in the rear and don't like them at all. Rides like donkey.
Im gonna go with deavers for the rear soon.

I think it rides better then stock. A little firmer in a good way. Front end was kinda floaty before when I had a 3'' spacer lift with stock coil. And I have dual batteries, winch, and the ARB bumper, so lots of extra weight and no sagging with the new coils.

Sorry I thought the original poster was asking what a solid axle swap is...didn't see it was a diff person. Hard to notice on my phone.
I am hear to learn as well. With that being said should I be concerned about Sonoran Steel's products?

Anyways I'm gonna go with the bilstien and 3 inc taller coil combo after that guys input. Does anyone see any issues with running a 15x10 rim ?

Not knocking that setup at all, but slow down and read up some more. Don't go on one guy's opinion on the internet. You can't go wrong with Bilstein from a quality standpoint, but you might also want to look into OME as an alternative. Frankly, I don't think you'll have trouble clearing 32s even with non-saggy stock suspension if you don't mind trimming a little plastic.

Also have you verified that you have clearance between brake components and that smaller 15" rim you speak of. I know some tacos came with 15" rims but I am not sure if there are larger brakes on some 16" wheel equipped trucks. Hopefully someone with a definitive answer can chime in on this.

gk5 your on the right track with new coils and struts, you won't be disappointed with that setup. I have put 15'' chevy rims on my 01 and they were fine. Mine came with 16'' rims, and V6 so bigger brakes probably. Whats your budget for the rear lift looking like? New springs like deavers are the way to go but their like $600 for the set. And don't forget about ordering a diff drop kit for the front

And SAS'ing a DD is pretty darn pointless, especially for 32'' tires you would actually lose clearance and handling. Not to mention its about $5000 to do it right and only $1500ish for front coils, deaver leaves, diff drop, and shocks all around.

Yea seriously I don't think some people actually understand how involved a sas is when done correctly.
