'00 4Runner Axle Stabilizer?
Hey guys, I have a question for anyone who's dealt with this issue before.
I called my dad last weekend to catch up and he told me that his 2000 4Runner "broke". When I pressed him for details, he told me that on his drive home from getting gas, it started to feel like his rear wheels were "steering". Upon returning to the house he checked out the rear axle and he described something like an axle stabilizer having rusted completely through.
I'm sorry I don't have a more technical description, but he's a little old to figure out a message board with the instructions I gave him so I thought I'd post up for him. I haven't seen the problem in question as he's back home in RI and I'm stationed in KY, but I'm trying to help him out.
He's got over 300,000 salted and sandy miles on that runner from cross country sales trips. He told me that if his use of a MIG welder can't fix the problem he's looking to get rid of the truck. So, I told him to 'squad and hold' on that until I can get a little advice from some of you 'yota gurus who know this stuff inside and out.
Has anyone experienced anything like I described? Is it something that can just be welded back in place or can a whole aftermarket part be purchased to reinforce that failed area?
Thanks for any input, if any more details come across from my dad (trying to get him to send me a picture) I'll stick them in this thread.
