I first read through your thread when I first joined YT and I thought then that it was awesome and I still do, I just picked up the magazine and noticed your truck right away and realized I hadn't looked through the thread in a while. I love the truck and congrats on the cover.

Thanks man!

Ok so I started having some issues with my truck lately....Does anyone know where i can get a super tough 3VZ clutch? the V6 marlin HD one is no longer willing to hold up to a supercharged 1UZ, who would of thought haha. I know Marlin makes a competition clutch for the V6 but i dont know if it will hold the torque..
any info will help big time!

Thanks guys

The guys swapping in the VW TDIs are having problems also(due to high torque), but it seems to be remedied by a 1600lbs Aisin, IIRC that is the Marlin HD. If that is what you currently have, i am guessing you will need to go to the comp style/puck clutch?

Hope that helps

Look in to a Centerforce dual friction. It has kind of a harsh feel to it when it engages but it sticks like glue.

thanks for info guys, i apprecaite it..

Thanks Toy, ill do some more research on the centerforce dual friction. is that what your running?

Been reading around all morning, Centerforce, SPEC, and Competition Clutches seem to be the only ones that offer anything other than a "better than stock".

SPEC actually offers a stage 5 unsprung clutch for drag race use only. i dont think i want that.

Competition offers a stage 5 sprung 4 puck clutch for $320.00

just sharing some info for anyone who is having the same issues.

James

I ran one when I had my 4cyl. I only had a single t-case and 37" boggers and it absolutely wouldn't slip. Like I said the engagement wasn't as smooth as I would have liked but it was tolerable since it wasn't a daily driver.

Thanks Toy! ya i wouldnt mind if the clutch was harsh or had a stiff pedal feel as long as it held the power and wasnt unsprung. I appreciate the info.

Here is a bit of an update after emailing and calling around:

Competition Clutch - the website says they offer clutches for pickups and 4 runners but after emailing them, all of that is discontinued and they no longer make it.

Centerforce - the highest torque rating they can support using a 3vz flywheel is 330 f/lbs, they guy told me to go on summit racing to order because it was $100 less, sure enough it was $409.00 part number DF501110

Spec - they make a stage 5 clutch that will hold 505 f/lbs but it is unsprung, the stage 4 is good for 380 f/lbs but it is unsprung also. They do make a stage 3+ which is good for 420 f/lbs and is sprung. part number ST593F.
Found one on ebay for $494.00

I will most likely go with the SPEC stage 3+ unless i find something better by the end of the day..

I hope this information help someone else some day.

Spec are nice clutches, especially if you dont want to swap to a 5vz flywheel.

I'm running a clutchmasters stage 4 in my s/c'd 3.4 IIRC it was around $400-450 US. It's supposed to be good to 500lb-ft i believe. It's 6 puck, sprung, super HD pressure plate. I ordered it from www.paradiseracing.com 5vz clutch tho.

Can you swap to 5vz flywheel? Then you can run a multitude of 5vz clutches. URD sells stage 2, 3 and 4. http://www.urdusa.com/More-Products-...4mi8p86h42q6d4 and are great to deal with.

Don't go centerforce... you will be disappointed... heard too many horror stories.

I would go for a stage 4, 6-puck sprung clutch if i were you...

As per the other comment,
14 hours away? Jesus... i thought someone said Barrie....

Could you not machine the flywheel for a different pressure plate bolt pattern and run 5vz pressure plate / clutch ? Or are the splines different as well?

I wonder how different the flywheels really are in the end and if it would be worth it to run 5vz stuff compared to upgraded 3vz clutch stuff? I guess you gotta crunch some numbers and figure out how much it would cost to run 5vz/upgraded 5vz stuff compared to limited 3vz stuff..

The overall diameter is the same,, but i believe the contact patch is a bit bigger. Otherwise, they're about the same.

I wish i took better pictures when i had the two together...
but you can you either or (3vze of 5vzfe) flywheels in a 3.4 swap, as long as you use the correct clutch. They both use the same starter / mounting / etc.
