Nah, they aren't that rare really. And yeah I had considered the retreads before I picked these up with 90% tread on them for $400 with a spare.
The only thing with them is the fact that any "mud terrain" does good on the trails and light mud holes, but for these bogs, nothing beats either TSL Boggers or maybe even TSL IROK's.

Truck was still acting up yesterday, had one hell of a time starting it and pretty much limped it to work. It wouldn't idle very well or very long. Opened up the hood and it started right up. I was like WT.... ???? Then while it was idling, I closed the hood and it shut right off. Ok. Guess it was just bad timing. After failing to start it again I opened up the hood, fiddled with some ignition wires and it started again. Close the hood, yup shut off......again. WT.....???? I did that sequence one more time, same results.
Wish I got it on video, but the security guard at work and another driver came over to give me a hand. I had been there messing with it at work for almost 45 minutes.
I proceeded to pound on the ignitor and moved the connector for the distributor some and it drove home fine. I hate electrical problems..... I don't have a spare OEM coil wire but the Crane ignition is wired pretty much parallel to the OEM ignition. Some rearranging connectors I can swap right back to the OEM ignition as long as I get myself a coil wire that fits the normal coil.
Not sure if the wiring problem is Crane, Distributor or Ignitor, but it's been like that for over a year without any issues till I damn near took the truck airborne twice while driving 35mph though an Industrial Park.

Brandon, it seems like something is contacting when you lower the hood, and shorting or arcing the system. Did you mention that? my reading comprehension is sub par these days.

Yeah I pounded on the ignitor and moved that green connector for the dizzy and all was well. Not sure yet why that worked.
Stupid thing is, nothing under there has moved in over a year.

Seriously though, my connector on the dizzy has two wires with exposed copper, I'd check the wire connections as Mark suggested. I still find it odd the hood closing turns it off. what if you shut the hood ever so lightly?...same result?

Yep, same result, did that last night. Ran fine home last night, 'm afraid to go out there and check today. lol. I really wish I got that crap on video. At least y'all believe me. hahaha.

Well lets not forget that the hood while shutting actually goes down a little further than it sits it sound to me like something is grounding on ur hood maybe u bowed ur hood in during ur horsing around or bent something somewhere

That horsing around was actually on the road going 35mph.
But with the stupid dips in the road and not being on that particular road for quite a while, it felt like I took the truck airborne. I thought for a minute last night that I might have busted a body mount up front or something, but truck is sitting level.

Don't think it's hitting the carb at all. I'd see it with the amount of mud under there. I just went back out and idled it for like 15-20 minutes and slammed the hood shut after I put that green dizzy plug back on where it belongs and it's perfectly fine now.

I'll get it fixed by then. Got a set of old plug wires from itsbroke, and unhooked the crane system. Gonna see if it comes back, pretty sure with me idling it managed to show up again after idling for a while. Gotta drive it an find out though.
If it does, I am gonna pull the plugs and see if 1 or 2 are fouling out. Doubt it though since it's not really a dead miss, when it does it, it's almost like a 1000-1500 RPM rev limiter. And it reflects in the tach.
I wish I had a volt meter on this, I wonder if a voltage spike from the alternator would cause this as well.
On a side note, I really have to figure out what I am gonna do for a gas tank skid plate. I don't know how simple it's gonna be to lift the tank and make a flat skid under it.

Hahah this just started acting up. Now the skid plate on the other hand..... Should have been done, but got busy doing the whole 10 year video thingy.
