had a pack of "Hello Kitty" stickers in my hand the other day. just didn't want to spend $7 for a joke.

you now have about 8 layers of paint on there. to be quickly ruined at the next wheeling event.

All of that paint probably weights as much as the mud that was on it to start with.

holy cow, been a month and a half no updates. Haha what have I been doing. Jack .... , wel not really but anyway, tackling the fuel level gauge today.

Picked one up from a junkyard that I am hoping is gonna work. Absolutely do not know what it came out of. I am guessing a 86-88 extended cab 2WD maybe even a long bed something based on what the frame looks like.

I picked this one because of ease of uninstall and the fact it was a 2 wire.

After getting the mounting bolts off well, I had to figure out how to get the room. This is the best I can come up with since I am working by myself. I should have enough room.

Got mud and rust anyone? Yeah this is gonna be fun.

Might be my problem right here as the connector was dang near completely disintegrated. Pulled off "kinda" easy. Might have been screwed in, can't tell but it would not have screwed off so I said "screw" it. Pun intended.

Well I got it out but not without problems. All but 1 of those little bolts came out without snapping off it's head. Looks Like when I go to put this or the other one back in that I am just gonna have to RTV it back in place and hope for the best. No money for a new tank right now.

Looks like I was right about those connectors being screwed on and this is the really "screwed" up on the top.

The resistor unit itself looks good.

yeah good luck with yours too. haha. I wish I woulda known what that truck actually was and if that gas tank woulda fit mine, I woulda just taken the whole tank. It was not in that bad of a shape. But was definately from an EFI truck as the fuel pump pickup had wires going to it as well.

One of these is not like the other. Who said Sesame Street isn't good for kids? Glad I watched it as a kid.

After further inspection seems as though my factory sender is "bent" to clear the fuel pump pickup tube assembly, however while moving the float by hand it does not seem to hit anything. The float itself is also not the same shape either. Still crossing my figures this thing will give somewhat of an accurate level anyway. Anything is better than nothing, Even if I have to keep a 1/4 tank of gas in there at all times.

Have you thought about drilling and tapping it to one size bigger?

Will the float sticks come off and switch out?

And jeebus.. you guys must go through tons of anti-seize with all that rust

Thought crossed my mind but theres almost a half tank of gas in there and I don't want to take the chance of getting shavings inside the tank. (bad enough I took the chance of getting some mud and dirt in there.)

I'll check it out, but at quick look it does not seem so.

Definitely a monopoly on Anti-seize here.

after checking the resistances on each level unit, they are really close to the same when "empty" but when full my original one says pretty much 0 which is in spec 3 +2/- 3 and this one I picked up drops to zero about 3/4 and then goes to like 100 ish when full which almost means when my tank is full it will show empty till it drops to about 3/4 of a tank give or take. Have not confirmed by hooking it up to the gauge but in theory that's what will happen.

So, I have come up with some redneck engineering on this one. "Fix" the the connectors that were so corroded that they came off and were probably off which is why my gas gauge stop working in the first place.

Just soldered some wires on the original connectors, now I just got to put some disconnects on the factory wiring and on new sensor wires. I did check the resistances after putting the wires on to "ensure" a good solder and came up with the same values as I did when directly on the terminals. Sorry for the poor photo as my camera sucks.
