I don't know why the alternator went bad, nor do I know why the steering was binding up.
Ain't noone can say I don't have fun with this thing. lol.

Lifted the truck about 1/2-3/4 of an inch in the front.
If I had to guess 50-75 lbs of mud/rock mixture. And maybe another 10-15 still on top of the front diff. ..... yeah I am gonna have fun taking that out once I get my rear 4.88 to match the front one I got.

Had a helluva time getting the bottom alternator bolt out. Almost thought it was bent. Just mud I guess. Looks like it will get a good treatment of anti-sieze going back on. Couldn't get it out the top, so had to remove the skid plate. And I have never laughed harder in my life.
This is the way it came off.
As you can see, only about 10% of the mud came with it. Even has the fin marks from the skid plate.

I think I seen a sign just south of I-80 on RT-93, it read, "Clean Fill Wanted". Maybe you can help him out?? Or you better put that back from where you got it from, otherwise you they may not be able to hold more events there anymore... No mud!?!?

Dang I was just down there by 80/93 too in Hazelton to pic this part up at the dealership. Oh well.
lol, Chef, that stabilizer is that Procomp one. Shock held up just fine, but well, as you can see slightly in that pic the dust boot didn't fair so well. But confirmed, I got the rest of my steering wheel travel back. What I thought was an issue with the gearbox / pump, was the stabilizer being well, hung up on a "little bit"of "mud".
Oh and yeah, confirmed, 90316-6004 IS the correct part number for that knuckle seal for the CV. Came to $67.69 for the set including my 10% off coupon and 6% sales tax.
I was planning on hitting the seals with some grease upon install, but they are already coated from the factory.

Man, there's just a 'beauty' thing when it comes to how 'TOYOTA' does most things, including they're own parts, eh? lol.
Yeah, some of them could have been stronger to begin with(or updated, which they DO sometimes do), ...but compared to an S10 or something? PFSSSSSSSST! lol.

Yeah, BIG confusion regarding the actual part number of this seal. Even Toyota lists the wrong part number for it.
Let's just hope I don't have to update that CV side seal, because I didn't order them. The ones on the "new" CV's are good. ...... for now. lol.

Went for another test drive. Only does it with the hub locked. Does not do it with driver's side hub locked in either 4wd or 2wd. Does not do it in 4wd with Passenger side unlocked. It DOES do it with passenger side locked and in 2wd. Acting EXACTLY like the drivers side when I replaced the CV and Spindle bushings. But completely different noise. Before it sounded like a rubber on rubber sound. This one sounds dang near sounds like a urethane/hard plastic gear grind noise.

thats insane. i avoid mud like the plague. it does nothing but get you stuck and distroy your truck while only being fun the first 2 times, or once every 10 years. although now that i live in TN i better get used to it...

huh, i think we got the exact same problem, though i would say mine sounds more stuck caliper-ish (but the caliper isn't stuck?) It definetly ain't a bearing, and mine does it wheather in 2 or 4wd hubs locked or unlocked..., but whatever it is ain't broke yet so idk, guess when it does i'll fix it...... If your knuckle seal fixes it, make sure to let us know lol
Nope, mine only does it with the hubs locked. I'll be changing out the knuckle seal, CV and the spindle bushing. These don't make noise with the hubs unlocked. If you have a noise like this with the hubs unlocked, I'd say they are the wheel bearings or....simply a rock in between the rotor and the dust "shield" which will sound very similar to a caliper/worn brake pad issue. I've had that issue before.

Thanks xxx, and best of luck with your cv's and etc.
