Have I said how much I hate cone washers?

Hub dial off.

After fighting with cone washers. Hub housing off. It will not be going back on. C-Clip off and starred washer off. Yes these did have that washer as well.

Inner spindle bushing as dry as a......... Yup, I think that's my problem.

Just two short clips inner and outter CV play.

Wabbit can fix anything right? Glad I got some spares. lol. This is what happens when ya get pissed off at PA rust and cone washers.

Oh yeah and wabbits reply:
"Correction: This is what happens when you are a doofus, get impatient and use blunt force trauma where finesse and persistence runes the day."

I suppose I coulda tried using the rubber mallet first and not my 4lb mini sledge. I wasn't even hitting all that hard at first, but once the first hole distorted, it was game on.

Yeah, he's gonna kill me.

CV is out. !!! No ball joint, tire, front diff or swaybar link removal necessary.

3 wheel drive baby !!!!. Notice lower shock mount undone and "slid" out of the way. Torsions are cranked up a little, not sure if that made things tighter or looser, but it's out.

The diff and cv flanges MUST mes together while trying to yank this through. All studs were removed. Surprisingly, they were not all that hard to pound out.

NOTE: Put nut back on the stud prior to hammering them out, as it will save the threads. As the hut hits the flange, back the nut out to give you more room to pound out till it's loose and about to fall out.

I think there is supposed to be grease in there !!! lol.

Look at that bearing surface on the CV !!!!!. I am extremely surprised it didn't make noise prior to this.

And the busted boot. This side (drivers) boot is actually in pretty good shape when comparing to other side. (passenger)

Bushing removal is next. But lots of rain coming.

yeah got it back together, but gonna have to take it apart again to replace that seal, I reused the old one. I'll get some more pics up here shortly.
No more weird noises, and it held together just fine. Still running no c-clip but I did make up the little bit of play using an extra washer behind the CV bolt so it wasn't wanting to slide in and out so much since the c-clip isn't there.

EGR valve is still in place (till I make a block-off plate this summe). Pipe was removed and in it's place went the PCV adapter that came with the Weber kit.

I bought mine used with about 80% tread on them. They are a tad on the loud side, but not as bad as say boggers would be. They do OK for what they are.

On that note, got two weird sounds in my truck. Again. grr. One which I thought was the infamous power steering idler pulley noise. Nope, it's the alternator. Sounds like the rear bearings are shot in it. Charging just fine though. Good thing it's a lifetime from Autozone. This one lasted me about a year or so since I had to replace it. I still have my original OEM one (I think) but I haven't gotten around to rebuilding that one. (probably needs brushes).

The second sound I got started last night, driving round a little in snow/ice I got an odd sound from get this, the passenger side CV/hub area. It's not a rubber on rubber sound like I was getting on the driver's side though. It's more like a light metal gear mesh (not gear whine) sound. And it's intermittent like the driver side. So I doubt it's the diff itself. I am thinking maybe CV hub splines. But lets hope not. I got that other back-up hub if need be, but since I toasted that driver's side hub body, this is my last backup.

Cold as hell and snow on the ground so I am not sure when I am going to get the chance to look into it.

Mannnnn! Noises and kerplunketing going on in THAT weather???? Grrr! Sorry to hear, but I know you'll get it, quick like, B! How are you going to verify/rule out the CV? Maybe Jerry could ride the hood like 'Ethan Hunt' or something and give a good listen while you drive down the road???? JK JERRY! lol.

Gonna have to take the hub off and have a looksie. I got that other CV I picked up with the other one. That might go in as well. It doesn't sound like a CV joint though. Those usually sound like grinding/sqealing etc etc. But who knows.

Yeah that I don't know. I always felt the choke setting as long as it actually works is more of a personal preference then anything. But you don't want it to disengage too early as the engine will run like crap if it's not heated up properly and comes off the choke too soon. And at the same time you don't want it to not engage at lower temps. Best thing I can tell ya is take a colder morning and set it then till just when it just barely engages on the tallest cam by itself with usual startup gas pedal pumps and then go from there. If it comes ff the choke too soon, richen (tighten) it up a little more. Make some paint marks as you fine tune it so you have an idea where you had it already set.

I got a similar random noise, i've been assuming a bearing, haven't had weather or time to check it though...
