Right. No need for loaded calipers. Make sure you get that "hardware kit" for the calipers though. A set of 4 pins. (come in kits of 2) and then the anti-rattle springs. Wilkes-barre autozone "should" have em in stock. Berwick, I have no clue.

You have a brass drift or something like that right? I don't. And don't tell me you got a screwdriver. lol. I might need it to take out those pins.

And get yourself a big bottle of brake fluid if not two. You'll probably wanna just flush that whole system.

ummm....yeah...somewhere....it's a home-brew plumb-bob....big piece of brass with a point. that's what you are talking about right? yes, an i'm assuming i was gonna need alot of fluid. is that gonna free flow once i get that line off? have to find a golf tee before i do that.

going to go on the autozone site now. so, that's caliper, pins (hardware kit) and fluid.

It does have the potential to "freeflow". I just sick mine in a bottle. A golf tee works better though. lol.

And yup, gonna need two of each kit I believe as each one is only meant to do 1 wheel.

C8465 (caliper) is available here in Wilkes-barre it's also showing in Berwick as in stock as well. same with the rest of the stuff.

Well my calipers are pretty much shot. I think I know where that fluid went. One of the pistons on my drivers side was almost seized up and while pressure washing the brakes noticed they weren't retracting (too much drag) add that to those little steel rings hat hold the seals on was off as well. SO my theory is fluid is or was working past the piston(s) through the seal. Both sides are pretty much like that. But I did get my pedal back.

In addition to that mess forgot to unlock my hubs from the last snow storm and while driving 55mph I think I blew out my driver side CV. All kinds of noise from it. Unlocked hub and it went away. While pressure washing the caliper on that side, looks like the rubber part of the inner seal also was tore off as well as some play in the knuckle side of the CV.

Wow, crap! lol. Well, you'll have it sussed up fast, I'm sure. I'm really happy with the Napa Premium ones I got/Lifetime, etc., yadda yadda. lol. The wheel cyl's too... Ask JasonTN how INSANE my stopping power/smoothness is with stock everything? lol. ON A DIME, BABY! lol. I KNOW, you're much more hard on that thing with the mud and such, .... probably needs bigger stuff like you have.

Where you planning on getting the stuff?

ok, confirmed drivers side cv is shot. If I make a slow right turn it doesn't do it. But if I made a harder right turn and then go straight it makes a pretty good racket. Originally it sounded like metal on metal, but now is almost sounds like meal on rubber. Now it's not a tire rub. Only does it when hub is locked. I narrowed it down to drivers side by keeping the passenger side locked and it still did it. Even when t-case is still in 2wd.

So At the very least I am gonna need a driver's side CV and an inner seal. Gonna pick those up used from a local guy. I was gonna pick up some calipers from him, but I think I will hold off on those for a little while as the calipers aren't really causing me to pull like in 92 TOY's case.

Boot(s) have been torn for close to 2 years now. And you know how I like my mud.

I've been waiting that long to see how far they will last. lol. It appears that this one failed on the outer knuckle though and took out the inner seal.

I shoulda taken a photo of that rubber piece that was lodged in the wheel shield. It looked like an o-ring, but pretty sure it was a part of that inner wheel seal, if not the CV itself.

Either way there is play right there on that side and not the other and it only complains when the hubs are locked. Is it possible that the inner wheel bearing wouldn't make noise with hubs locked (not in 4wd) and not make noise with them unlocked?

Picked up a set of used CV's from 3mphtoy on here. $30 for the set = really good deal. Also grabbed the inner and outer spindle bushings off the same truck. Which is what we think my real problem is. Makes more sense then CV's or wheel bearings.

I had a slight misconception on those spindle bushings and had actually forgotten all about those. And the rubber on metal sound is most likely the flat face of the CV rubbing on the knuckle and that the oil seal on the CV is what me and 92 Toy seen fall out of the dust cover. And since those spline bushing don't have anything rotating when the hubs aren't locked like wheel bearings do, it makes perfect sense that the worn bushings led to too much play which ripped the oil seal off of the CV's against the knuckle.

Not sure since the other side seems perfectly fine. And the Passenger side always seems to get more mud then the drivers side during bogs. But.... also remember that's the same side that took that large hit that tweaked my steering and blew a bead. Plus I almost have no doubt that these are original bushings. So who knows. lol.

These are the spindle bushings from the parts truck I pulled the CVs and front 4.88s out of courtesy of 3mphToy. The larger middle ones are the inners while the other two are the outers.

These I know are a slightly different design then the ones in my 87, as these came out of a 90's (forget what year). The general census, with us anyway, is that they should work just fine in the 87. We will see.





Not sure if my 87 has that "star" washer or not. It might have something to do with the "updated" spindle bushings from the newer trucks. We will see.





Tried to hammer these out with a brass round-bar, but the corners of the round-bar were too rounded to catch these little buggers enough to pound them out. Ended up having to use the tip of a pry-bar as a persuader along with the hammer. As you can see some of the nicks and the rounded portions that I will have to file down and de-burr so it doesn't "cut" onto the CV's, not to mention hinder sliding the CV's in. Pictures look worse then the actual damage is. So keep in mind if your planning on taking these things out and don't want to deal with "fixing" the damage on these, it's best to get new ones. *Price reference will come later*








All cleaned up using Dawn disk liquid, warm water and some paper towels.








Rather then use a harsh file etc, I decided some coarse and fine grit emery cloth wrapped around a bolt would do the trick. No photos of that process, but I did dry fit these onto the CV's. All cleaned up ready for my favorite waterproof marine bearing grease.






......more to come. I hope to get these in today sometime. But my luck usually isn't that good. lol.
