TheBack40 89 High Desert Runner build & 3.4swap

So finally got a new toy! always wanted a 1st gen so here it is! Not sure about the odd faded.... pink ish camo??? I kinda cut up my DD so with this build I'm gonna just keep it simple and will leave the plasma alone..... I hope.

Probably going to start with the 3.4 swap first. I will update as this progresses.

Alright I have hit a small snag. I downloaded the EWD for the 96 from TIS w/ no problems. I know TIS typically only goes to 1990 so I figured I would just call the toyota dealership and purchase a hard copy of the 89 EWD. Makes sense right? I just got off the phone with the parts dept. and they said they don't have access to the 89 EWD!? Wtf man.... So anybody have any advice? Yes I could trace wires and figure it out but I was hoping to avoid that time consuming task. I have casually searched the inter-tube for the needed diagrams but have not found what I need. I will keep searching but figured I'd post the question as well.

Thanks guys.

New 3.4 in rig!!!! Now onto the wiring and such. Reused the 3 liter pan, dipstick and tube, pickup tube, alt bracket, and a/c head.

A small tip here would be to use the old driver side hoist hook off the 3.0 and bolt into a vacant bolt hole on the pass side 3.4. It worked great for the swap but only one bolt made me a little uneasy. I will mod it so two bolts can be used and re install.

While I'm waiting on the EWD's I thought I would prep the inside for some bedliner. Took all weekend to hammer out the sound deadening black tar. Did it with a hammer and chisel. If I had to do it again I would have used an air chisel.

Has anyone one here bought service manuals from Helminc.com? Are they legit?

It's been awhile, figured I'd update for the hell of it.

This the old crossover chopped up and reconfigured.

The new cross over lined up pretty nicely. Wish I had a shot of it in the rig.

Not sure how I missed this build. Looks like you got a solid runner. I have never bought a manual from Helm so not sure on that. Wiring in a 3.4 does look like it would be the hardest part to me just because I don't fully understand the diagrams. Looking forward to your build. The 3.4 is a great motor and sure it will make a 1st gen runner scoot down the highway.

Took it out with the top off. Can't believe it took me so long to do this engine swap!

Thanks Terry it is pretty solid, I've been back and fourth about selling the dang thing. Every time I drive it though I am amazed at the difference with the 3.4 and don't want to sell it. Too many projects though.

The fuel pump is wired in with a switch currently. All I need to do for the wiring to be Complete is to get the pump to turn on with the COR.
