I always replace the O-ring on the Distributor. Stops some of the leaks these trucks develope and normally has the original. I just get teh O-ring from Orielly.

I will get a new seal from my local Toyota dealer. I wash my motors and dont have to deal with wet caps.

Nice score on the 88. I bought an 86 two days ago and I have people fighting over it. Just can't beat a 2WD Toyota. The one I have is a 4 speed and 4th gear is unbelievably tall in it. Going from a 4WD to a 2WD makes the latter feel like a sports car. Good luck with yours!

Hello bootscootboogie...If it was an extra cab I would keep it for myself as a 2 wheel drive is more fuel efficient. For everyday driving I actually like the two wheel myself. Congrats on getting you and 86. My 87 two wheel had the 4 speed in it. I put an 83 Celica 5 speed in it and it was a direct fit. I did change the shifter as the Celica was too short for my liking. I know one of the bone yards in my area has a Celica transmission on the shelf. It is another option if you cant find a truck 5 speed.

I have hit a delay. I need one part that goes on before the Intake Manifold so I am working on the other small projects on this to get it that much closer to driving. The bone yards are still closed for Christmas and my friend and me neither one has it. I could go get it from my new to me truck but not going to. May be going a 100 mile trip to Springfield just for that one part. Grrr!!! Not the first time I have driven distance for a part.

I have never seen an 84 Runner as they are carbed. A pick up tank is different from a 4Runner so I had to modify the Fuel Pick Assembly and make it a 22r Fuel Pickup Assembly. It does have a 22r filter on it now.

Anytime you get a chance to get an EFI Fuel Pick Up Assembly, grab it. It is a hard and expensive part to get a hold of. This is on my 4x4 frame and I can not get the assembly to seperate from the Supply Line. In that case I will remove the 8 screws that hold it to the tank and drop the tank. Where my finger is, some have twisted and broken the line or in some cases the line just rots away.

These assemblys vary in style, but this one is actually in great shape. It will clean up nicely when I get to it.

Here is another style and it was on my 85. I let it hang the whole time while it was under construction.

Beside delays on parts, another time killer is cleaning up the parts that I need to install. It will be getting a Webber which is sitting on the shelf.

The part that is holding me up is where it connects to the head and the water line.

It usually takes me about 40 hours to convert a pickup from one to the other. A 4Runner allow a good 10-20 hours more just because you have to remove both rear panels. A pick up everything is down the passenger frame rail and you can get a carbed fuel tank. 4Runners require everything out to access the wiring and the drivers side rear lights are on the drivers side and not down the frame like a pick up. I am not going to get into any hurry to convert a 4Runner. It is a big job.

I got the Distributor in, Fuel Tank done. most of the rear interior done. some more dash work done and still not finished with the dash. Wont be long until I am just under the hood. Doesnt look like much from previous post but lets me know I got something done. It will be a true 22r without being a hack job. I am glad I passed on an 88 Runner a while back that some one had tried to remove all of the EFI wiring. Those are always a mess. Christmas break is over for me as I have to work tonight. I was hoping to have it competed on break. If it had been a pick up and I had the missing part, I could of gotten it done.

Desmog https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f114...torial-264405/

I may have caught a break. Dave likes the manual choke, I like the automatic choke. I can make this work until I get the part I need.

Hello 92ehatch... As far as color, I have about $150 into the interior. I spent $100 on carpet from stockinteriors.com and the panels I used Interior Paint on. I got my Interior Paint mixed up at Oriellys. I had to use several different panels https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post51756956 some of the panels I had to get creative with some 2 part epoxy. I painted my interior 4 or 5 years ago and it is still looking great. My seats are what I am having trouble getting done. One of these days (years) I will have them re-upholstered. I wont be able to go with factory material but I have seen some fabric that would be period correct and work for this truck.

I finally got the piece I was missing. A friend of mine had a junk 20R motor and it looks like it will work. First 20R I have seen and really cant tell the difference from a 22R.

I took the Intake to the carwash to get the grease off of it. It had burnt on oil and would not shine up. I used some Easy Off and it cleaned up quick. I am not getting the water hose out as I have already winterized things but the bucket of hot water worked great on getting it cleaned up. I will touch it up with a wire brush and it will look good. It is cleaner then what it looks in picture.

Thanks Terry, i dont think our oreilly has paint like that but our advance does.

My rear interior panels are pretty cracked and in need of more help than i know to give them.

And now that i have black front seats im going to try and make it a black and red mix interior. Simple black dash mat, black shift boot, black console arm rest, black rear seat covers. I already have a black steering wheel cover.

Hello 92ehatch...You will need to find the home store that supports the other surrounding stores and usually they will mix paint and ship it to the other stores. I go to the home store the does the paint mixing. It needs to be for interior use. I am sure the other big name parts stores are set up the same way. Painting is the easy part. It is the cleaning that takes the most time. I just use Simple Green and water to get my pieces cleaned. It is easy to freshen most of the interior up. It is the seats that are expensive. Ouch!!!

Hello Co 94 PU... I had planned on doing a step by step write up on converting one. It is a big job. On a truck it is a 40 hour job and a lot easier then doing a 4 Runner. I am in no hurry to ever convert a runner to carb anytime soon. It is the rear panels, fuel tank, fuel pick up that adds a lot of time to one. I really did not want to give up fuel injection but a 22r with a Webber solves so many issues. I will post some information on a Webber that might come in useful for some one when I get back out in the shop.

I was trying to get it at least running as we had planned on going out and the day just flew by down to the last minute. I had been putting the swap off for a while as I was frustrated with all of the time I had into trying to get the Cherry Manifold issue fixed. I even sent it to Toyota dealer twice trying to get it fixed. I still have to get the fuel hoses to the length that I want and extend a few electrical wires and eliminate a couple of wires as the Webber does not need all of the sensor connections. I still have not got to take it on a test drive yet but it will fire up in 1/2 to 1 full revolution of the motor and I still have not put a Timing Light on it.

Needs cleaned up but should be done in the next few days.

All of these gaskets and I did not have one Intake Gasket. Just kept running into some kind of delay. I had to wait a couple of days to get the spacer for the mechanical fuel pump.

I am wanting to get the 88 completely finished then get on the wrecked two wheel drive, get the 86 back in the shop and get it reassembled as my oldest is wanting it. I will later on get the red 87 in the shop and start getting it cleaned up later on in the spring but wont get after it to hard until I get the 76 up and running. I got several projects in the works. I will be swapping motors on a 01 Ranger in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to some fresh projects.

Hope everyone is having a great New Year. I get to celebrate it at work, Urgh!!! I still have to get the 4Runner all put back together but today was a nice day. 57 degrees so I took advantage of the weather to try and get the wrecked truck ready to bring home. It had 3 flat tires and I got two on and still one of them went flat. I checked to see if it had a spare and I am thinking it could be the original spare. It is a bias tire and not sure if it has ever been on the ground. It still had air in it but it is dry rotted. I put it on the truck and it did go flat.

I took my oldest with me to help see if it will start. I turned the motor over manually and it did turn. I poured some fuel in the carburetor and it fired up.The owner told me it had ran out of gas so he just parked it there. It has been sitting 5-7 years and I did try and put some fresh fuel in it and it would pull it to the motor. Either the Fuel Pump or the Lines are clogged. Todays fuel is crap.

Justin was asking me what I am going to do with it and told him to fix it or part it. He wants to fix it. I told him if the frame is bent it might not be worth fixing and then he said we could use a 4 wheel drive frame I have. I had not thought of that as I was on a one track mind of fix or part. It would be a good experience for him. Of course he wants to keep it and I told him I got enough projects already.

Original tire maybe?

Date code bingo anyone? I'm going with 16-8, but I can't decide if it's 88 or 98. Kinda muddy so I didn't compare it to the spare I pulled out of mine

Hello Co 94 PU...I am betting it would be 88. Seems like that was about when radials started coming into more use back then. At the time I preferred Bias tires. When I get it home, I will try and get the tire cleaned up some and see the code better. The tire had air when it was on the spare tire carrier and when I put it on the truck it went flat. I think it probably leaked out the dry rot cracks.

I did finally get to take it for a test drive around the block. I need to get some new tires on it and a couple of more hours of getting a few pieces back on to get the truck completely finished up. I wish I could of gotten the Cherry Manifold issue fixed but after having way to much time on this truck, sending it to Toyota and others looking at it and not being able to get it fixed, I was ready to get it back on the road and get on to other projects. I want to get to the wrecked 2 wheel drive and get back on my 76 Ford.

I passed on a runner not to long ago that someone tried to make a 22r by hacking up the EFI wiring and adding a carburetor and could not get it running. I could of converted it correctly with a 22r harness but i have well over 50 hours into this conversion and am in no hurry to ever convert another runner again. It is much more involved then doing a pickup. Just glad to get her runner back on the road.

We are in the singe digits and I should of gotten out in the shop and got the runner completed. I only lack a couple of hours of getting it finished but the cold weather just made me want to stay in the house. I usually dont like just laying around the house but it was nice for a change. In the next couple of days we are going to be back in the 60 degree weather. I want to finish getting the 88 back together and if all goes well, I did get 2 new tires for it and will get the other two for it next week. Tires are as much as a transmission or paint job. I have learned to take good care of my tires and I can usually get around double the miles out of them.

I want to get the wrecked truck home and get started on it. I do not plan on it being a long project. I just want to get it fixed and down the road. I kind of like the idea of a new project but dont want it to last to long and finding another project just to see a different truck. I will get it in good shape but wont go for the new look completely. Just take care of the hack jobs that I know that I will find on it or any new project.
