Hello kornhuskerwizard..I will add some more information to that post as I have some more pictures to add to it and will let you know when I add it and will put it in a more useful explantion. I posted those pictures for Nervo19 as well. The 4Runeners have a dummy light socket that can be converted to a active light. If you cant find a good dome light out of a 84-88 truck, but can find a broken one which is most likely more easier to find, you can add use it. The 4Runners wont have the wire for it and I tap into the corner of the windshield. SR5 trucks and runners have the map lights. An extended cab will have the wire and you just add the map light and tap into the wire that is already there. I am not sure if I posted that up grade into the Cheap Mods thread, but if not I will do a better write up on it and post it there as well. It is handy as I do a lot of night driving and always chasing something around the cab.

Thanks chuckarhunt... If you try to use a ratchet extention ball bearing for your hub, can you let me know which one you use if it is the 1/4 or the 3/8 inch drive ball bearing. Also I had an extended cab and on those the dome light is behind your head. You can take a standard cab dome light and tap into the wiring and have two lights in the 89-95 trucks as well. I think 93Xtracab added a 2nd gen runner maplight to his truck as well if you want to try that. I think he has it marked on his front page as to how he did it.

On the previous page, I added some more info to adding map lights. In one of the pictures, I show how I take the dummy mounting bracket and moved the electrical leads from a broken dome light. If the bone yard sees it is broken, they usually wont charge much for one. The broken light assemblies is quite common and is how I fix mine if I need to. One of them has been working great for a few years now.

Terry, thanks for the explanation on the map light. I have one with the bracket somewhere in my "collection" of 1st gen parts. It's getting hard to find stuff when I want to install it. Now it's starting with 3rd gen parts. I just changed the wheels and I'm getting clear turn signals for the 2000.

No problem Nervo19, It is an easy upgrade and is very useful at night if you do a lot of driving at night. That is one of my summer projects is to get into my shed and get all of my parts organized. I had 79-95 parts and am weeding it down to just the 84-88 parts. They will stack up quick. I have one more build that I want to do and it is on my Downey truck which will be an 84-88 truck. It is still a few years off yet as I am finishing up some other projects and I want to do a every nut and bolt, like new truck when done. Having several generations of parts can get confusing. I like the clear lense look. I might do it to my 85 at a later time.
I have helped work on a couple of 3.4 motors and my third gen has been a great truck and so far have been very fortunate not to have to do any major work on it. I need to go to the bone yard and start practicing on one in there to find out how they come apart and different things like that.

Doesn't seem possible, but I have had to renew the tags on Mistys runner for the third time since getting it running. Missouri just started doing the 2 year tags so I went with that option over the one year tag. Seems like I am at the DMV every other day. Some how we went two months without getting stopped with expired tags. I just happened to catch it Friday that they were expired and of course it was after the tag office was closed.
While driving it around to get it inspected and such, I seen Misty replaced one of her windshield wipers. I always change mine out in pairs. She just did one. One wiper is a side mount and one is a top mount. It doesn't bother her but I notice it, so I will be getting it matched up with what she replaced it with. She tried to fix it herself and did a good job. I didn't even know about it and she said she did it when she got caught in the rain at a store one day and just bought one. She tries to maintain her truck, just maybe not the way I would. She tries so am glad of that.

I have the 87, placed paper clip in appropriate slots, what an I to expect from readout? All I got was three of my dash lights staying on, check engine, at temp, and charge, thanks in advance, the issue I am dealing with is that the motor runs good up to about 1/4 throttle, but falling on its face after more throttle is applied. So far I have changed fuel filter, changed TPI sensor, and put in new oxygen sensor

Your Check Engine Light should flash all "1"s if no problem is found. Problems will not always cause check engine lights though.

Check for vacuum leaks. Seen that keep on from reving like it should. I have propped the AFM flap open and then manually operate the throttle and that kind of gives an idea if there is a vacuum leak. I have a certain screw driver that works to keep the flap open to do this trick. Another person would be easier though for that trick.
Check all of your hoses are routed correctly and may need to give the intake system a good cleaning as well. These trucks do not like air leaks. I have never had a problem with the AFM but it couldnt hurt to check that it is operating properly.

R1bob cheap easy way to check for vacuum leaks is to take carb cleaner or brake cleaner the flamable kind an spritz a bit on hoses an along intake seams even the airfeed hose from the filter box if any of them cause the engine to speed up from idle you got a leak there

I was cleaning the shop and had a spare set of calipers laying around. Something told me I should just rebuild them and have them ready to go for spares. I blew it off and sure enough, I could of used them. Mistys runner was making some brake noise and it was just needing pads. I got the passenger side swapped out in 5 minutes. The drivers side, I could not get the pistons to collapse so had to pull them off and work with them in the vise.
I finally got it to collapse, but I don't have that warm fuzzy feeling about them being in the best shape so will get me a rebuild kit and hopefully get them done this week end or sometime soon. I got them changed just in time as the pads were paper thin and all wore down evenly so was happy with that. I don't think I have ever changed the pads on this truck and if so it has over 49,000 miles on it since I have gotten it running so guess I cant complain on the brakes. I really don't have to do much maintenance on it other then the usual.
Paper thin brake pad left on it and cleaned up the one caliper I had to pull off. Will rebuild both calipers soon and when doing that will finish fixing a few dings in her rims and paint them a darker gray.

Thanks kornhuskerwizard...I am really fortunate that she lets me do my things. I see others where the other half don't always let them. I still need to rebuild the calipers and hope to get that done this weekend.

I started working on getting her rims looking better. They are in bad shape. Here is what I thought was similar in color but is darker then what I thought it would be. I will see if I like this when it is back on the truck. The last color was to silver I think. Looks better in person as what looks like blemishes is light reflection.
Showing some of the damage. I ran out of 320 wet sandpaper so had to finish it up from there. Will get some more paper and finish what I didn't get to complete.
