Hello ksit... I like the Tri spokes that I have on my 88. They are the next generation of rims and seem to fit it well. The kiddos do actually make some work easier at times. Hoping that they get good enough that I can be the supervisor and they the workers.lol
Thanks Cyberhorn... I like the blue on mine. With the metallic in it, it does have some color changes to it at times. When I first got it painted, the wife asked why I painted it purple. When it is in the right light, I like the color it shows.
Hello Rad4runner...I agree with you, I do not care for the black tops as well. I talked Jason into doing his top to match the body and he is glad he did. I will be painting a silver runner that has a black top on it later this summer and it is going to be painted silver. I am going with the stock look with some minor changes. I am hoping non Toyota people will eventually think that it came from the factory this way. I like the raised look, but I do not want a step ladder getting in and out. It looks good on other peoples trucks, but not on mine, which is the reason I removed my body lift.
Hello kornhuskerwizard... I think they look like a pickup with the black cap on them. Since this truck was junk, I dont feel bad about changing some of the things on it that it didnt have from the factory, like colors. If it was a great orginal truck, I would never change the factory items.
Thanks mark... I know you like the SR5 Rims as well. Some may say they are so 80s looking, but this is an 80s truck and I really like them. Blue is my favorite color and even if the body was any other color, it was getting turned to blue.

As far as my Runner, I have found a dashpad for it and one for my 85 truck. I know where 2 more are at that I am going to get. Think I recall them being in great shape. One guy asked about one for his truck.
I am still getting parts for my runner. I did get the cap that runs along the top of the tailgate on the inside fairly recently. It is still getting some attention, but the more I drive it the more I really enjoy it. ( Dont know why pic size chaged, grrr...)

Hello kornhuskerwizard...The hot tub is the wifeys project. She wasnt to thrilled seeing me use it for a stand. I like to use it once in awhile, but getting out in the cold with wet cloths keeps me out of it most of the time. My oldest son is the same way about being wet or cold, we have alot of similarities him and me.

I will be starting my weekend here shortly and if all goes as planned, I should be getting alot done. Supposed to have some great weather and I am rested up and ready to get somethings done.
I got a call and a guy that I apparently talked to at some time, ( still trying to remember, old age creeping in) bumped a car in the rear and has gotten in over his head about getting the front end fixed and wants me to see about helping him get it back together around 4 in the afternoon. Other then that, I plan on spending alot of time working on both of the Extra cabs in the shop. Trying to get the dents out of one and the bed off of mine.
The 86s bed bolts, I had off in less then 20 minutes total. I have been soaking my 85 bed bolts with 3 different types of rust dissolver for a couple of weeks. Trying to get a cutoff wheel to cut the bolts is to tight as the bed wont lift up high enough for me to get on in there.
I think I am going to go buy about 50 die grinder stones and cut them off that way. If all goes as planned, I should get alot done.

4Runner and Truck rock guards look the same but are different. Truck is in my hand. A 4Runner only has 2 tabs on the out side and some screws on the lip of the fender. A truck has 7 fasteners.
Some more differences.
Trucks have 7 locations. Screw at the bottom is another one that is showing in bottom of picture.
One broke in this one. The screws are usually difficult to get out. I normally have to squeeze the tabs to get them out. Not the first one that I have broken in the past and sure there will be more in the future. The other side came out fine.

A cheap interior improvement. The top side is usually in bad conditon. A cheap fix is to swithch the passenger side to the drivers side and vise versa.
Top/bad side.
Put the bottom side up and makes a small but noticeable improvement. Just posting this as I had to take interior panel off to get to a dent on door but wanted to give some ideas.

Before.
After. Photobucket quit responding.
Here is the panel I first showed on this truck. Got a pinhole and 2 small spots to redo, but it is alot smoother now and with another hour it will be nearly complete for this stage. I will go back and add more info to this post later tonite or tomorrow.

When I show someone how to paint, the first thing I do is to intentionally run the primer. It helps to take the fear out of operating a paint gun. This is a bad run that took awhile to get it this bad. Just trying to show it nothing to afraid of as there are several steps of sanding to do before getting to the paint stage.
If you are going to run on any steps of primer, sealer, paint, and then clear coat. Run on anything but the paint. The primer, sealer, and clear coat are easily sanded and repaired. I have ran paint before but it is usually clear coat that I have the biggest problem with and you have to color sand it anyways.
No fear of Runs while doing bodywork and hope this shows it isnt as bad as thought to be. It took a long time to get this much of a run intentionally. The above pictures shows it is sanded out.

Thanks junk4u..It is alot smoother then what it was. Still got a ways to go. On the dash pads, they are all the same. The indentation goes the full length on some and half way on others. I will try and post pictures of the two different styles tomorrow. Here is a link on dash pad removal>>> https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post51778558 The bezel comes off first and there is a bolt under there. Then the passenger vent and the PE pipe under the dash, above the PE pipe is the other bolt that holds the dashpad.

I noticed the different length dashpads in a pickup I looked at the other day. Also saw one on the local CL one day, it kinda threw me off I have the small indention, but the one I was gonna buy on CL had the long indention....I thought it was aftermarket and passed on it haha, nice to know that they did vary, I wonder why though?
Nice to see ya saved it from there.

Yes there are alot of parts for runners n trucks you think would be the same but small details like youve stated make them a little different, AGAIN!! you are a body man magician!! your ex cabs are going to be awesome. That rear bed corner looks great!
Thanks again for the vinegar trick on the fuel tank!! I had a huge improvement today with it!!
Good luck with the weather Terry!

Hello dakotawho... I not sure which years had the smaller indentions and which had the larger. I am thinking 86 and older had the larger indention and 87 and newer had the smaller one but could be wrong. I still have a ways to go with my runner but it will get there. I am enjoying more each day.
Hello kornhuskerwizard... I learned yesterday that on the 89-95 runners and pickups the doors are NOT interchangeable. That caught me by surprise. A guy asked about fixing a couple of his trucks yesterday and that is when I found out. A lot of small details out there.
The vinegar will eventually get it clean in the tank, it might take a few days but is alot cheaper then replacing a tank. I seen rust about a quarter inch deep in them and it will clean them out nice if give enough time.
That is the thing I like about bodywork. Taking something that looks bad or damaged and making it look like nothing ever happened. It may look like I used a lot of body filler on the truck, but have tried to show that it isnt caked on a dent. I try to get the dent as shallow as possible and then fill it. Even the professional car shows you see on TV cant get away from using it. It is about to quit raining here and when it warms up I plan on being out in the shop all day. Hope I get as far as I got yesterday.
