That's a good point on the fuel quality. I also think it is junk now.

When I was teaching in Illinois, I had a co-worker bring her lebaron in for a driveability issue. Ito would chug and miss, like it had a fuel or ignition issue.

Long story short i tested the gas that was in it. The fuel was more than 75% water.

Well we came to find out that that gas station down the street had a ground break in one of their tanks and it was taking on water. Made the news and everything.

It was pretty funny. Alot of the slimeball dealers in naperville were telling people that they needed whole new fuel systems. One of my other co-workers was told that she needed a new pump, injectors, regulator, etc...... cost her more than 1500$$

On the lebaron...... we just drained all the fuel out, swapped in a new filter, and put fresh gas in.

You never know whats really in it. And who has the time to test it.

Hello Mark...I am a little lazy in the winter time and will have my oil changed at a oil shop. I had mentioned to a guy working there that I did my own work and I just didnt want to lay on a cold shop floor and then trying to dispose of the oil. I am not sure if he fully understood that I can do more then normal maintainace and he had several suggestions.

The supply total was probably $20 at a parts store. All easy things to do. If it is a reasonable price sometimes I will have extra done. This was a scam what he was trying to do to me. I am one of the most easiest going guys there is. Some how he set me off and that is rare.

I took a new Ranger pickup under warranty to a Mercury dealer and guess I was not the type of clientel that he wanted (they sold luxury cars). I was in a suit and tie maybe he thought I was not the type of guy that worked on cars. I still remember that buttheads name something Goosetree at Tulsa Mercury dealer. I believe it is on Sheridan road, but could be Memorial Drive. I could find it. One day might have to pull in with my Toyota and say hi. hehehe

The 86 is going to its new home this weekend. I took it to the glass shop to get a new windshield in and the chrome trim. Also got the AC recharged. The owner should be getting the SR5 stripes put on this weekend as well.

Just a refresher of some of the things that were done.
22r to 22re conversion
New exhaust
Rebuilt alternator
Added 4Runner Valance
Chrome Bumpers
Paint and Body work
New Windshield
Recharge AC
Cleaned Frame
Cleaned Ventilation System
SR5 Seats

I will be posting this truck for the Calendar when submissions open. It is a great running little truck and knowing how it drives and rides, I am looking forward to getting my 85 like this one. These extra cabs ride nice. The 86s steering still feels really solid and overall the truck just rides great. Never like seeing them go but it is going to a good home and will have an easier life then my 85 will. My 85 is going to go thru the same type of build but is going to be my daily driver so wont have as easy life. Should have some more picture by the end of this weekend.

Thanks Cyberhorn... I gave it 300% but I give myself a 90-92%. But I am very happy with how it turned out. I know where some flaws are at and most might not notice. It is rewarding when at it worst, there are trucks in the junk yards that look better. It is an excellent looking and driving truck. It was a base model and is now an SR5 and is getting more SR5 things later on when it gets to its new home.

Since I have another spot available in the shop, I thought I would start looking around in a 100 mile radius for a quick project. Other then my 85, I don't want to get into a deep project for a while. Everything I found was either way over priced or just beat to death. Never fails when I cant tie into a reasonable project I find them all of the time.

I even started looking at some two wheel drive trucks and found a few potentials but even they were in a rougher stage then I really want to mess with at this time. Two wheels are easy to do as you can pull the whole drive train at once and go thru them at once. So much easier to do and they have several people that want them.

My 86 Runner thread may slow down but the 85 thread and Mistys will be getting busy here soon.

Awesome work Terry, the 86' turned out really nice! I'd love to own one like that someday! I really like the color white, it looks so clean!!!

I hear you on trying to find a project, when i have money I never see anything that peaks my interest , but when I don't have any money is when I see all the sweet deals on Craigslist!

Thanks Ed...I really like the way it turned out as well. Great looking truck and rides nice as well. The guy that installed the windshield really liked the truck when I took it in to him. I am still checking Craigslist and other areas just looking for some quick projects and they are in some really bad shape or high priced. Even what you see, there is a ton of work that is unseen on the trucks out there. I am in the same boat. I miss out on several nice projects when working on something else. I am going to wait patiently and work on my 85 and shop until I come across a good one.

This is my 7000th post. I was looking at my join date to Yotatech and it has been 6 years. Doesn't even seem possible. I installed some Gabriel Shocks today. I was going to completely rebuild my front end as I have inner and outer tie rods, upper and lower ball joints, bushings and an idler arm, but I want to start working on my 85 so I am going to let Misty have them for her truck and I will do mine at a later time. She is getting ready to get some new tires and I always have an alighnment done when I get new tires. I will get another complete kit for mine at a later time. It has been forever since I have changed bushings out and it was on a 71 Cutlass so I will need a refresher and see what all is involved in that. I still need to replace the rear shocks. The ones I had on it are worn out. Rides a little better but still not where I want it to be.

Shocks were in bad shape.

Hello Cybverhorn...It makde a big difference on the front end on how it rides. Kind of makes the back end more noticeable now so will be getting a set of shocks on the rear soon. I pulled a rear shackle bolt recently and it was toast. I will keep an eye out in the yards for some good ones. I wonder if you can get them new? I got one out of the 4 so far on the lower arm. I am not to sure the upper arms is going to be that fun? Looks like you have to disassemble quite a bit and getting the upper ones off of the frame I have is being a pain in the rear.

Hello Cyberhorn... I am not looking forward to the uppers. The tortion bars have to be loosened as well. It may not be as bad as it looks. Luckily I have a spare frame to practice on.

The owner got his truck home on a 365 mile trip. He also got his SR5 stripes on. So much funner driving an older car on the road. I like seeing the older ones of any brand on the road instead of all the other cookie cutters out there. He will be adding the SR5 interior door panels, swapping in a new motor, and bed lining the truck. It is going to look better. One I plan on submitting for the 2015 Calendar.

He drove it home with the dlx panels. Someone had cut speaker holes in to them. The SR5 panels will cover that up. Really happy how it turned out.

Hello Cyberhorn...The ones in his got trashed and so have all three of my trucks. I got the runners panels looking good and have a nice set for my 85. Those door speakers really have messed thousands of panels. I think that is part of owning an older Toyota.
