swing out tire cool.edit: I would just probably add some thicker steel on the inside of the bed for support...

So I got off my commuter train today and walked to my truck, got out the tape measure to check against the measurements you gave me and looked up and....there was a Rodeo with a tire carrier parked 2 cars away! I went ahead and measured and it looks like it would fit a 1st gen 4runner....at least on the tail light side. I think it could get messy around the plastic trim where the key goes and it says "TOYOTA" in huge white letters - some cutting would need to happen there for sure :/

All the same, a really cool mod, and I'll look more into this if I don't learn to weld and make my own bumper/swing out tire carrier in 2011

i agree with the reinforcing part i have a welder and scrap steel but like i said im lazy and its sturdy so for now itll be ok

with the lights i know i kinda did a crappy job on the write up i knew before hand that it wasnt good but i thought some pictures would help someone if they decided to do it..

or do you mean why did i put the round headlights in??

p.s. im really impatient and just do things to make it work in a temporary sense.. when i have money i'll take my time polishing my turd

[QUOTE=stevenazevedo00;51599687]its funny i was driving to get gas one day and there was a rodeo infront of me btw i was already planning on making a baja holder or welding a spare holder on my rollbar then i saw the isuzu and immediatly went and got one because i thought how many people could have really done this and i want my truck to stand out from others in the bay area

Anyways as far as model goes its a rodeo 91-97 lots at the pick and pull these cars are junk all them had the carrier out of 8 total lol! i chose this because the mount was close to the shape of the pickup and less grinding was needed

as far as the 4runner goes the only difference i know of is that the tailgate is wider so youd have to look at what i did in these pics to know for sure im sure you wont have a problem

Theres more involved when you get the tire carrier like taking off the mounts from the swing out thats a pain youll see

you dont have to grind too much off the mounts but its needed.. constantly test fit while modifying the mounts!! but remember they dont have to be perfect your gonna put some rubber gaskets between them

by the way you need two people to get this level and correct looking p.s i did it by myself
feel free to ask questions

nice man i have been trying to think of a tire carrier i think i mi try this lol
some time in the future

Thought about doing that kind of spare tire mount on my truck but didnt really have the time over the summer to do that between work being crazy and all, but the next oppourtunity i have im modding that to fit my 4runner. Thanks for the motivation! I'm thinking of doing a bit more plating on the inside and outside via panels i cut off the body of my other 4runner and then use to shape some heavier duty plate.
