SC87YOTA's 1991 22re 4Runner Build-up Thread
A couple moths ago I bought this 1991 4Runner. Around 200k, 5 spd., rebuilt 22re. The rig is rust free but does have a dent in rear quarter panel. I paid $3000. after talking him down $500. I still think I paid a little to much, but you know how hard 2nd gen. Runners w/ 22re are to find! It was a fair deal, I am very happy with it.

Some stuff I have done in the last couple weeks. Put my old ARB on with some small fog lights. I also picked up a set of late model Taco rims w/ 265/70/R16 a/t tires.
1500w power inverter under pass. seat.
MagLight mounted on door.
Traded an old project bike for some used 33" muds on rims and BRAND NEW MC 4.7 t-case gears!
Then I traded the beat 33's for stock t-case and 7.5" 4.56 3rd!
cleaned up a bit
This will be a long build due to the fact I am recovering from a broken arm. I plan on collecting parts until my brother comes down in mid march to lend a hand, literally. I plan on building a well rounded rig that can do a little of everything.

Finally got the TG bumper! install was a little tuff due to body damage. but I happy with it so far.
Found a rear V6 4.56 3rd out automatic for $200. on C.L.

UPDATE: Finally!! In the last couple weeks I have got a lot accomplished. My little bro came down to give me a hand (mainly the left one,lol) one weekend also, THANKS BRYAN!
Heres my "toy self"
Replaced my 4:10 3rd member with a 4:56 3rd out of a V6 auto tranny
Its a lot easier than ya think! Some Lucas should keep thoose used gears happy.
2" OME 900 coil springs compared to stock springs, make sure you get high quality compression tool to shrink the coils....its a little scary
CV axles out
front 4:10 diff out

I swaped vacuum forks on the diffs 'cause the 4:56's electrical plug was hammered
Front 4:56 diff. back in with 1.5" ball joint spacers from 4crawler. Extended brake lines from 4wheel parts. Probably didnt really need them in the front but needed in the back for sure.
Found locking hubs at a local wrecking yard, painted and greased.
Some 2" longer Pro Comp shocks
compared to stock length KYB's
My 05 tacoma rims have 5" of backspacing and the tire rubs the upper control arm. So I found a nice set of "old school" aliminum 15x7 with lil baby tires for cheap on craigslist. Then scored 2 free BFG 32x11.5's for free on craigs. Went to a local tire shop and found another 2 that matched PERFECT for $20 bucks..... I really feel good about that one! All tires have around 30-40% tread left.

The yard is well stocked and his employees are fine but I turn right around and walk out if he's there when I go. He will quote you a different price every time from the other employees

I have this similar post in another thread. So since putting in 2" coils my axle is pushed to the passenger side. I have not measured with plum bob but the right rear tire is obivously showing more meat by maybe an inch or so. I need a longer panhard bar. So after a lot of research I came up with this idea. I found an adjustable bar at local tractor supply for $40. bucks and my plan is to modify it with the stock bar. I want to cut the hiem off the end link so I just have thread left. Then weld the thread to the stock bar end with lspv bracket and keep the hiem on the other end. I will also get 2 nuts to lock the threaded ends to the bar after adjusting.
A fab. shop will be doing the small amount of welding. I feel this is my best option since nobody makes one for 2nd gen. 4runner and its cool 'cause you can adjust it with out unbolting anything due to reverse threads on one end. Its super beefy too!

Got my sliders welded on finally, they look great! I also got the pan hard bar finished and I am happy how it turned out. My PC at home died to will be a whilr till I get pictures up.

UPDATE: After replacing almost everything in the IFS it is still not to my liking. I think my idler arm is worn already after only 2 months!(cheap parts!!). Found a solid axle housing, dont know what year?? This thing will find its way under my rig soon!
I also put my header, cat. and muff. on. Found a Downy intake system used in town just like the one I had on my old '87! With all this junk on here she runs great, I was getting 21 mpg from Santa Cruz to Truckee and was climbing Hwy 80 hills in 4th and 5th gear!!!(the 4:56's help to).
I finished that adjustable pan hard and had it on my rig for about a month. The joints had noticeable play so I decided to buy the 2" drop bracket to replace the 4" and put the stock bar back on. The axle seems to be centered, should have got the 2" bracket from the start.
Kinda getting sick of my big bulky bumper, especially with no winch in it. Thinking about selling and getting something else...

UPDATE: Today I took that cheap MasterPro idler arm off my rig and took it back to Kragen(it has lifetime warranty). I asked the guy if he would credit the MasterPro part toward a Moog idler arm. He said cool and the difference was almost 100. bucks. The Moog arm feels great on the rig and makes me not so chapped on putting all that other money into the IFS. We'll see how long it lasts.
