I can't say i have been down to where the ferry's launch, but to me, just driving on the beach for miles is worth it to me. Driving in the NPS beaches are so limited, you only go about a mile, maybe, then have to turn around to go back because none of the ramps are connected.

my favorite place has to be the point down past Hatteras, you keep going past the ferry port to the very end and there is water on 3 sides, it’s pretty cool. Then take the ferry to Ocracoak Inland, that’s pretty cool to.... ok actually my favorite part was pulling 3 Fords out of the sand

Glad you were able to have some fun with it. The 3.0 seems to be working well with Rausch Creek and OBX under it's belt. I take it the band aids are holding together well?
How did the shower work out. I thought the idea of using the old tranny cooler as a heat exchanger was brilliant.

The OBHS worked well, but i need to fix a few leaky connections, and i did not get a chance to try the heat thru the radiator, the can of water i was carrying all day was nice and warm

I can say you have definitely influenced our consumption, but it is actually the only soda-pop the girl will ever drink. And that there is the ever rare A&W in glass, with REAL SUGAR!

Were you down for those ungodly hot days and the murder on Hatteras Island? Exciting times.
You definately have the infrastructure (shower) to go camp on Cedar Island. As of September I will have three teenagers, one being a girl, so I know I won't ever get to go there.
I think the place yotalover is talking about is called "The Point." It's supposed to be the best surf spot on the east coast. It keeps getting closed off due to piping plover nests.
Not sure about the Horse Tour thing. I know they don't want you following. If you stayed on the imaginary road through the sand you were o.k. I know you know not to drive on a dune otherwise. And there's a law about coming within 50 (?) feet of horses or feeding them. I'll know I'm officially old the day I take one of those tours. There is, however, one company that uses old Landcruisers but I don't know who gets to drive them. When I used to stay in Corolla it was a house close to where that Food Lion is now. The wild horses were thick and you had to watch where you stepped outside that house. I remember having a herd blocking the road and just waiting for them to mosey out of the way. Now they've chased them way up the off road beach and they keep the herd much thinner. This year they took a Corova stallion down to Ocracoke Island to mate with one of their wild horses and get some genetic variety.

^^^ thanks for the info. Since we are new to visiting OBX we haven't been to many spots. Horse spottings are neat, we have a ton up here in Assateague Island. It was a bit hot for the first couple days, then it cooled off and got cloudy. Every year without fail, it is 100* when we leave and same in OBX. I think it is mother natures way of making sure i don't enjoy the last minute mods or maintenance i do to the rig every year.
Didn't see any landcruisers, but did see lots of Heap tours and H2's with SFA and a dozen seats on the back...ok...maybe that is an exaggeration.
Murder, well they haven't found her yet, and he has disappeared, news crews were everywhere, and search teams. The murder took place in Salvo, next town south from Rodanthe where we stay.
The shower is a must for my lady to want to do any long trips, and honestly this is just the start. I think we are going to take a few days in the fall to check out Niagara Falls, camp a bit, hopefully wheel to a campsite.

The H2 IS on a Suburban Frame/subframe... (IIRC)... so I guess that makes it easy to do this to a Suburban? Hmmm.... I'd rather chop the top off a Suburban I think. hahaha...

Really, why would you ruin a Blazer like that? Those old blazers were cool with the removable tops, the new ones....not so much.
in other news...
I think i may have fixed my temperature gauge reading 'warm' when i first start the truck up in the morning when it is clearly cold. I found a thread on here about someone that mentioned the water temp gauge screws work loose over time and search for a ground, giving false readings. A word of caution, i had already replaced my sending unit, so that element was eliminated.
The fix is to simply remove the gauge cluster and clean the contact area on the back of the flexible printed circuit board where the screws for the coolant temperature gauge make contact. Remove one screw at a time, clean and retighten or you may loose the gauge and have to take the cluster apart.
total time to fix was about 30minutes. Most of that time is spent fiddling with the darn speedo cable.

Monkton huh? Just rode thru there Sunday.
Updates... Well I'm always doing something to the rig, have to save a few more coins before I order the diesel. Fixed a few leaks the on board shower had. Sourcing a solid front axle now to start the front suspension overhaul. Might make it up to Rausch creek for the Toyota take over this coming weekend but I can only make Sunday. Wish we had some closer trails I could test stuff out on. Oh, I am getting my dual jerry can holder cut soon and then hopefully the bumper with winch mount will closely follow.
