Same to you mark and everyone at yotatech.
Haven't been updating my thread lately cuz I have a project that is taking a bit longer then expected. Once it's finished, I'll be sure to upload some pics. The project is making a trunk under the bed "sunken box" to relocate dual batteries and OBA.
More to come.

Cool build thread. I really like your rear tire carrier. Would it be possible for you to email me a pdf of the AutoCAD? If not, could you please post some pics of how your bumper mounts to your frame?

Sunken Trunk
Been very, very busy lately, and finally got some work done to the rig last night.
Battery relocation, phase 1:
First things was to install a new rear cross-member since I want a box that clears the diff, and offers a fair amount of room. The cargo box the rusty(yet to be prepped) Crossmember sits on was in the back of my 92’ 2WD, which will be widled down to 20”x28” to sit in the floor.
Crossmember in
Time to cut the box, I love plasma cutters
Some clean-up and making the box collars, I want the floor to be just as rigid as before, and the angle will get welded to the floor and then the box dropped in from above to make a solid unit. This is also designed so if I decide later to install and auxiliary fuel tank in this location I can unbolt and lift the box out and just fill the hole with the lid I’ll make.
Cut the floor, and had to rework the exhaust
Dry fit
Installed the box, now I just need to build the lid to complete phase 1, phase 2 will be running lines to the front of the truck and dropping the battery in the box, then add the deep-cell

thanks guys
Yes Ian, i actually used the box in the back of the 92 for a while, but to be honest it just sat there, i never actually used it. Then one day while planning my attack for this project, i realized the box you gave me is the perfect depth....and then i took the plasma to it!

a few things:
- are you going to add a vent for gasses?
- insulation? especially with the exhaust right there
- when you do add the fuel tank, where will the battery go?
- i assume you're making a lid for it?
- got any pics of the underside?
seriously, i could easily make this work for the truck. nice work

I got some catchin up to do. Somehow I missed this box project. I am glad that a thread I started a while back regarding that spare tire cross member being important or not structural wise was good info since someone just cut theirs off.

Thanks, i try.
actually the box isn't air tight, but i do plan to seal it, and then add some vent lines. The compressor will live in this box also, so it will need some air-flow.
exhaust doesn't get hot back there, if anything i'd add a shield to the exhaust or wrap it.
IF, i relocate the fuel tank it will be for a fourlink suspension set-up, then the batteries and contents will relocate mid-ship in a new/different box.
yes, lid is coming.
i'll get some pics of the underside when i have daylight.
I installed the cross memeber(tacked it in place) before i removed the factory member just in case the frame wanted to move.

That is pretty cool. Couple questions:
I assume the box will be under the carpet? Or are you going to have access through the carpet?
Are you going to sound deaden the box? I would be a shame to have a weak spot in all the sound proofing you did.
Did you put any corrosion resistance on the bottom of the box?

The box is awesome, and it will be even more awesome with a lid! And I'm really interested in seeing how your dual-battery set-up turns out. I'd love a set-up like that! I'm looking forward to see what you come up with.

The box lid will get the same treatment, the interior of the box will get some q-pads, but nothing major. The compressor will be in there, that would be the only reason to deaden it IMO.
every surface that has been cut, welded, ground or scratched was POR-15'd , then where applicable i used 3M paintable undercoating on the outside of the box and under the truck. I also seam-sealed the box collar to the corrugated bed to help reduce moisture invading the interior during a quick dunk.I will also seam-seal the inside of the box, install a drain-plug, and vent the top of the box(not lid) with a few holes or possible breather lines up to the top of the tail-light cavity.
thanks
