Project Recycle - 1994 4Runner

Well, I can’t seem to help myself… Last weekend I picked this up from buddy of mine.

First the good stuff! Here are the specs:
1994 4Runner SR5 with about 206k miles.
3.0 V6 that had the HGs done approx. 15k miles ago.
A340H auto trans.
Dual RF1A t-cases, stock geared, RADesign triple sticks, custom Bud Built cross member and skid plate.

Front end stuff:
SAS done at Northwest Toys, LLC using an ‘81 8” axle
Low Range Off Road low profile front spring hanger
4" Trail-Gear front springs
Trail-gear dirty 30's front axles
5.29's with an Aussie locker
Trail-Gear Trunnion Eliminator
ARB studs in the steering arms
Front Diff Armor/Truss
Trail Gear High Steer
Front axle was rebuilt when the truck was SAS'ed

Rear suspension:
1997 FZJ80 rear coils with a spacer
5.29's V-6 rear third, rebuilt with a full install kit(bearings etc) approx 2,000 miles ago

5-BFG 35x12.5x15 KM2 MT's on ProComp aluminum wheels - approx 6K miles

Armor:
Front T-G winch bumper with a front hoop added to it.
Rear T-G bumper modified to work with the rear 4Runner swing out tire mount
4Xinnovation sliders with kick out

Interior:
Front seats are out of a 2006 Civic
Hybrid locking center console made using a Tuffy Samurai and Toyota factory console

Exterior:
Roll-on Desert Sand Monstaliner
Jungle Fender Flares
Roof rack mounts were extended about 24"
Snorkel (Right now it’s for looks, but came with the parts to finish the install)

Unfortunately, my buddy got burned out on the project... He started a dual transfer case install using an Inchworm gear adapter behind the A340H automatic in January of 2019. He had it all together but had no reverse and barely moved forward. He tried swapping valve body from another A340, but still no luck. He was going to swap another A340h into the truck that he had but decided to punt it. You can find his build thread here, which is super extensive: Dropzone's Project Recycle I decided to keep the project name, just to pay respect to everything he already did.

Since the trans was pulled apart, I talked my buddy into helping me get it home. He even let my son run the controls!

And now she sits in the company of my ’93 X-Cab (hiding in the back) and ’15 4Runner….

Looking to see what you end up doing with this thing. Hopefully you have it longer than some of your other trucks!

That is super cool!
Looks expensive too. Lol
If it were me, I'd throw a manual tranny in there & be done with it.
What's a few more sticks on your console?

I guess it is time for an update... I have bad news and good news:

The bad news is I will be filing for divorce soon and will have to sell my house. That means I loose my garage and have no idea where I'm going to land.

The good news is my brother bought this 4Runner from me and is already starting to work on it! IT WILL LIVE AGAIN!!!!!

Sorry to hear that man, was looking forward to another build thread on this truck.

Best of luck going through your divorce and hope you land on your feet wherever it may be.

I'm sorry to read this Chad. I know we don't really know each other that personally but I live some what close so if you need a hand moving and I'm available I'd be willing to lend a hand.

@dropzone SHE LIVES!!!!

No pics yet, because it was very wet or we were night wheeling... However, the 4Runner is moving under her own power! There are a few adjustments that need to be made, but she drove up Firebreak Five in the wet pretty easily.

Sorry to hear your trip has some tough stuff to navigate, and wishing the adventure goes in the right direction for you.
Also- awesome that Project Recycle is MOVING forward....and backwards!
