Larz is a cool place for a car show. We've been a few times with Herbie. Was yours the only first gen 4runner?

nice pics of the show. good turnout, too.
i went to a local "euro" show about 3 minutes from my place yesterday. nice day, a bit brisk, and a bunch of 70s and 80s vws (i took one of my volvo 240s).
if you get the urge before putting your runner away for the winter, you should come up this way and do some low-stress 4wheeling on some of the local class 6 roads. easy to get here, too, only about 4 miles from I-89.

Heck, I get my 4Runner OUT and running for the winter. It's my winter truck. Mainly because of 2 reasons: 1) my pickup S*&(S in the snow. No weight to speak of on the rear axle, and 2WD only. Slip-Slidin' Away is the song that always comes to mind And 2) the pickup's blower resistor has been dead for 28 years now. I know, not hard to replace, I just never seemed to get to it, and I want the heater in the 4Runner! I have driven the pickup in the winter up here in Oregon, but it wasn't all that easy. Small cabin, bulky clothing to stay warm. Makes things much more difficult. Thankfully, that small cabin, with all the glass, acts like a hot-house, IF the sun is out
So, now my 99 4Runner is my winter truck. Besides, the 4WD makes life SO much safer and easier. I always joke that going into 4H feels like turning on the auxiliary extra gravity system. Thes trucks get down and boogie in the snow in 4WD.
Have fun, all!

Winter is one thing. Snow and salty roads are another. I’ll drive it in the cold as long as the roads aren’t wet or salty.

They really are good in the snow! The FJ with all its modern equipment VSC, ABS and whatnot is even better. The idea of driving our 4runner through the winter is something I've been thinking of lately. It will probably be more limited this season. You really have to have the time to power wash constantly so maybe we'll just do weekend driving and I'll work on cleaning and treating it with rust preventatives during the week.

The weather was great this weekend(even better today!) but i decided it was time to face the fact that suck weather is coming. So three of us hefted the hard top back on the truck in one swiftly choreographed movement. Someday I should paint it.
Winter is nigh. Booo.

LOL. Is that an 033 White topper over a Super White 040 body? I have the same. The top has stayed off since 2016 and I bought paint but have never got around to painting the top. I was going to use satin white Rustoleum since it's close to Super White.

yes, that’s right. I’m not a fan of Rustoleum products except their automotive primer but agree it needs to be satin or semigloss like original. Problem is, i store the top at a storage unit blocks away, so never get around to painting it.

Wow, it’s been months since I posted to my own thread?!
Truck has been hibernating but will come out this weekend since the roads are clear again.
For Christmas, I bought us a “Creepy Twin” dual transfer case shifter that will be fun to put in and basically look cool as hell.
Not sure when we’ll get to that project but before summer for sure!

Just need some more warm weather like yesterday right? Then you'll be motivated to get out there and work on the 4runner or take a spin . 😂

with the 8-12” of hoovershneif we’re getting today, I think it’s going to be a while. Dang it, the roads were all clean a couple days ago!

The twin stick is super sweet even without dual cases...gives you access to 2L if you remove the interlock pin (at least in my '85, may not work for all years). It comes in real handy for towing, creeping around in 2wd, reversing. It does create a little trim problem, and when I installed mine it would slam the edge of the tunnel until I installed a beefy trans mount, which solved the problem.

I was planing to drop the transfer case to put in the twin stick shifter, but now I am thinking about dropping the whole trans and transfer at once and then being able to replace the clutch and throwout bearing. The clutch isn’t slipping but is of unknown mileage and the throwout makes some annoying noise. I have a low mileage clutch disc and plate that came with the spare 22re I bought. Not terribly motivated to pull and swap engines since mine still runs damn good and goes down the road just fine.
Then when i have the trans out, pull the axles, diff and adjust the backlash. The whole thing is probably a two day project but at my pace it will take two weeks.

Thomas, I have same sluggishness. Takes me a long time to do things for some reason. Some people can drop tranny and throw in a clutch in an afternoon. I wouldn't mind having twin sticks, but would not really want to drop my tcase just for that.

Tom, you are better off pulling the transmission and transfer case together. I separated them a couple years back and it would be a job trying to put that transfer case back on to the transmission under the truck! I ordered the wrong seal for the transfer case from Martin Crawler and got the inner seal for the transfer case so decided to separate the transfer from transmission to put it in when I had the transmission out. It's one of them eco seals.
