We ate our lunch at the Nubble Light in York, Maine and later sat on the beach for a while after paying only $2 to park in downtown York.
I was really glad to see beach operations pretty much normal in York despite Covid.

We ran the old truck hard today, interstate speeds up to 75mph, 94 or so degrees outside, A/C on full blast and it performed admirably. Round trip we did probably 150 miles.
That looks like a lot of fun miles right there! Some serous mileage. After you mentioned forum member Magnet18 I had to go and see what kind of road trips Magnet18 has been doing. Wow some serious interstate stuff there.
Went to Conway every summer as a kid! Climbed about half of the white mountains!

It’s still a great place. We met the owners of the railroad once and they were super nice and so is everyone who works there. We talked about my son working there someday when he’s a little older.
I’m very happy with this upgrade- I recently put in some rear shoulder harness seat belts. I looked around on the internet and ebay and finally settled on a set from a Jeep YJ. The color is a perfect match and they came with more hardware than i needed.
There is a little plastic button that limits the retracting making them seem a bit long. Once i removed it the belt retracted as far as i wanted. The only other challenge was they would rattle against the top roll bar mounting bolt when no one was in the back seats. I solved it by taking up the gap on the bolt shank with a zip tie. Here’s a photo of the set.

So to be clear, you bought those seatbelts new? Could you share the link if you still have it?
I have a set of shoulder belts in the back of my 4Runner from a Toyota Pickup, and while they work mostly fine, the belts themselves are a little frayed from use and they don't quite retract all the way leaving themselves hanging loose.

I like these! I'm gunna have to do that. Right now I have non retractable 3 belts . They were cheap but your cinched in like a ratcheting strap on cargo. They work pretty good but difficult in the front as well. I took out the originals because they weren't locking, now for some reason they do lock. Think I'm going to send them out to be rebuilt or inspected.
New enhancements! I found a set of rear seat hinge covers in a hoard of 4runner parts i bought. I painted them with SEM Graphite vinyl paint and installed them.
A while ago i finished wet-sanding and buffing the “good” hood for my truck. I had painted a second hood during my paint work. Now i’ve finished the underside of the good hood with paint, clear and new stickers.
The Duplicolor paint is a good match but a can doesn’t go far. It took two cans to cover the underside. And the clear is almost useless unless you put it on very heavy. At least it will seal the paint and probably make future underhood cleaning easier.
yes i did. There is a two part epoxy by 3M and uses a special gun. It’s expensive but good and you can do two hoods with a single tube.

I haven’t been doing much work on the truck lately, just driving and enjoying the weather.
i was waffling about pulling the engine for rebuild this winter but now i think i will wait until winter 2021/2022.
it has low compression in cylinder#4 and consumes some oil, has wrist pin knock, but it’s approaching 200k miles and i’ve never had a high-mileage Toyota that didn’t consume some oil so who cares? It’s still running too well to take apart, knocking down 20 mpg consistently. The other factor is my physical health is not 100% so i think putting off large projects for a while longer is best.
Last week there was a deal on Craigslist in Maine where a guy was giving away a 56k miles 22re that had been in his garage for 20 years.
I normally search CL just about daily but this had been up 24 hours at least when i saw the ad. Too bad, i couldn’t act quickly enough. I would have just done a swap. So i’ve set automatic searches up on CL now. Maybe i can find a 22re block to rebuild ahead of time.
Over the weekend i fabricated light mounts from some roadside bedrail. I won’t show you a close-up of my welding job, which i have to relearn everytime i take the welder out. Then, my son, a friend and i got the hardtop back on for winter.

Hah, this post feels so much like something I would say/do. I have picked up scrap bedrail several times (not from side of road, but from a dump site). And secondly, yep, my welds are always terrible, I've never gotten the "stack of dimes" look to my welds, although I never really tried a good welder and some MIG gas. I've only done stick and flux core.
Where do you keep the hardtop during summer? I have mine sitting upright against the side wall of my garage, and since it is perpetual summer here in FL, I don't ever put it back on. I think about getting rid of it all the time, but then I think there will be that one time that I need it.

yeah, i don’t do a lot of fabrication but it’s good to have some scrap metal around when you need it. I pick it up if i see it before the scrappers do. Where i live, you can pretty much put anything on the street and it will disappear!
i have a storage unit down the street where i keep the hardtop and my other hobby car. It is a PITA dealing with the hardtop but a welcome change when i put it on and take it off again come summer.
