I lugged that front suspension trail spare kit across Dbcfr's pad so I could back my truck out of the garage. Next time you are down, we should disassemble it and put the parts you want into your truck. It isn't worth the back pain to deal with it all at once.

Thanks, MC. I saw that when I was down there last Monday. I've got an '88 I'm parting out, so let me know if there's anything you need for your rig.

In other news, my WabFab slider adapter showed up! Here's a pic, along with some stickers and a hat Brian threw in as a bonus. Thanks again Brian!

My rolling parts list right now is- Doors (to make 1/2s out of), pickup tailgate, and 4.56 4 cyl 8" third member. I might also be snagging a 87 pickup for cheap real soon, but would need to find an engine for it. I might see what I can find and plug an engine in and flip it.

Well, my aluminum radiator developed a leak, so I sent it out for warranty. I've been using my old brass radiator in the meantime. They're dragging their feet on the warranty, so today I decided to swap out the radiator from my parts 4Runner. It's a brass V6 unit, which I'm going to keep permanently, since I like the larger capacity. After getting it all buttoned up, I fired up the engine to warm it up. I noticed some steam from the tailpipe, but didn't think much of it. After it had warmed up, I brought the RPM's up, and noticed a miss and a bunch of white smoke. So, now it's got a blown head gasket or a cracked head. Time to start gathering some parts, I guess. I'm bummed about the problem, but more so because I don't have the money to just swap in a 3rz like I want to. Oh well, them's the breaks.

Stinks about your head gasket but it's not too bad of a job, I'm sure you'll have it back on the road soon .

Thanks Jerry. Yeah, I'll have to see if I can find that re-build thread...

If the money is right, I will get an RV head and cam from EB. We'll see. Thanks for the compliments.

I'm hoping to have it back on the road in two weeks. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Dbcfr has offered his time and shop, so we should be able to knock it out quickly. I'm pretty sure it's the gasket, but I'm going to replace the head while I'm at it. One of the studs on the intake side is a little messed up from the PO, but it hasn't given me any issues since the build. I don't want to take my chances a second time around. On top of that, if I'm going to dump more money into this 22re, I might as well get a better built head for a few extra hamsters.

Yep that DB is a very helpful nice guy!! that sucks on the head gasket, my radiator was leaking a little too but i found it was the hose clamp on the upper needed to be tightened more. its been good now. where did you get it warrantied at? I cant even remember where mine came from besides ebay, and i cant find the listing for them anymore. Welp good luck on the build, with DB it shouldnt be long.

X2, Dbcfr is always very helpful. I got my radiator from Nippon Racing on eBay. I called Jesse at the number listed on their receipt, and he helped me through the warranty process. I still haven't got it back, but I'm being patient.

This morning I called ENGNBLDR to get some advice on my new head. They recommended a 268C cam for the Street RV head I ordered. They also advised me to replace the valve adjusting screws with Genuine Toyota parts, so I ordered them with my Toyota Head set. The head should ship Friday, and if all goes well my 4Runner will be back on the road next week.

HEY! ....adjusting screws? Great, now I'm having flashbacks! hahahaha.

Funny though, seriously Maltese..... I just went through this with Tod for a couple hours on the phone(on and off a few times for a few minutes).... and sent him pics of mine, etc., hahaha. He must have that on the brain, lol. Check your Rocker Play and pad depth as well, man, ......I'm pretty sure that's where I'm getting my remaining lil miss and much smaller, ....but still there......."tic'tic'tic'tic'tic", lol.

PS> Sorry if I missed that, but just was curious if you'd had the whole rocker assembly checked out, etc., ....especially since I've been dealing with that 'chasing of the tail' issue now for quite a while, haha.

Great to hear you got some of that cleared up man....hope you don't have to be TOO patient! lol

Yeah, sorry for the reminder about the adjusters, Chef. Haha. I'll have to check out the rocker assembly when I tear it down, but it looked good when I was in there last. I'm more concerned about the condition of the block. If it needs to be decked, that will throw a huge wrench into my spokes, as far as my timeline for completion. The bottom end only has 30K on it, so I'm not doing any extra work there.

We pulled the head last night, and the gasket was bad in a couple spots. I can't really say for sure if the head is cracked, but it's going in the scrap pile anyway due to other imperfections from past owners. The block has seen better days... The cylinders are a little rough, so it's getting pulled today and sent out to be bored .020" over, cleaned, and decked. I'll just have to suffer without the 4Runner for a couple more weeks. More to come.

Thanks, Mark!

Well, the block is out, stripped, and at the machine shop. The machinist should let me know what's required in the next day or two. If the block is salvageable, it will be bored to fit new pistons and rings. Also, the flywheel is getting resurfaced, then the crank will be balanced. It should run like a top when all is said and done.

I talked to the machinist yesterday, and the block checked out okay. My work schedule is going to be a little busy after Easter, but I plan to put in some late nights to get this thing back on the road. Today, I cleaned some parts and did a little painting. Pics...
