Went out wheeling yesterday with Dbcfr and conigirl. We decided to go to Shuteye peak. It was a good all around trip, with minimal damage, and tons of fun. It was nice to get out and play in my rig again, as well as spend some time with my wife and our friends. Coni got to break in her new 3rd gen too.

Trailhead before Shuteye...

On the trail...

Dave, fooling around...

Coni's rig. 97, E-Locked, 4.88's, Sonoran Steel 1.2 + Camburg UCA's, WabFab sliders....

looks like a fun trip, coni sounds like she has her rig set up. We went up to courtright, went up chicken rock..that was exciting. Where is shuteye peak? looks like a trip I want to go on.

Yeah, Shuteye is a cool trip. It's above Bass Lake, past Central Camp. Coni's rig is nice, and she's only had it for a week. She bought it from another YT member.

Thanks, it was a good time.

Build Update...

I got the 130A alternator installed, as well as a couple extra grounds and a 4 gauge lead from the alternator to the battery. The alternator seems to be working well, but I have yet to test the actual output. I'll post up when I get the results.

Dirty old alternator...

Shiny new one...

Installed...

Head to body ground...

Engine to frame ground...

While I was under the 4Runner, I noticed a little coolant coming from the weep hole on the water pump. I'll be picking up an Aisin pump tomorrow, to replace the aftermarket junk....only lasted 25k.

the trip to chicken rock is pretty mild from the back of courtright resevour to chicken rock, I hear it gets harder after chicken rock, its supposedly 10 miles to eirshem lake from there. I need to get a locker at least in the rear to healp keep from spinning. I am intrested in joining a bald mountain run, as well as a couple other friends, one has a toyota truck that is in the pictures of my courtright trip, and my friend at work has a Jeep..I know thats probably a bad word here but at least its not mine!!! sounds like October?

I am trying to install my radiator in my rig but am not having the clearance that I want for the taurus fan, is the mount on your radiator angle out at the top, I may have to cut the bracket and re weld it where i need it. My support is bent in a little at the top so I am also going to try and push it out a little bit. also when you did your battery swap how did you reconnect to the relay box and the starter? I am assuming you just ran the altinator strait to the battery? I am thinking on doing the swap, do you think the supra afm will pass smog?? I was thinking on just moving my airbox to the other side to get rid of the pipe over the radiator. so much to do!!

do you have a pic of the radiator looking down to see the space between the support? seems from the pics that yours is also mounted lower.

How thick is the Taurus fan, overall? I only have about an inch of clearance with my e-fan. If the core support is pushed in, you should try to straighten it out first.

My positive lead runs from the battery to a switch (for my winch) on the passenger side inner fender. From there I have the starter lead and the upgraded cable to the fuse box. I left the original alternator lead hooked up, and added an additional 4 gauge lead, directly to the battery. For smog, your best bet would be to modify the Supra/Cressida airbox to fit, and try to keep it as 'stock looking' as possible. I'm going to build an airbox, and replace the tube to the throttle body, at a later date.

I can get a pic tomorrow, but mine's different than yours, since my radiator has drop brackets for the body lift. I just changed the brackets yesterday, so the radiator is now 1.5" lower than stock, instead of 3". I like the way it fits now, much more.

Also, I finished my CB install, water pump replacement, and I found some older Hella 500's so I can swap out the lenses on my HID's. I'll get some pics up tomorrow.

that makes sence why yours looked lower than mine did. I am going to try and push the support forward a bit, its not much maybe 1/2 inch pushed in. I may also try to mod the bracket on the radiator to get a little more clearance. it does clear now but not enough for me to feel comfortable about it. thanks.

My aunt & Uncle have a house on Bass lake, I was there last year for a vacation. I won't have my rig of course, but next time I go that way I'll let you know & see if you could take me wheeling.

Looks great, ....and HEY, I wanna get shown around up there, too! lol... Rob, let's make it a planned "Fall Road Trip", eh? lol. I've been to Bass Lake many times, and my buddy(when we were 16) slid down a rock slide on his face near the dells, knocking 5 teeth out and breaking his jaw.......... it was really crazy. BEAUTIFUL lake!

LOOKS GREAT on the CB, and I really love your rig, Maltese.

PS> I'm planning a trip to Kehough Hot Springs and Mammoth Hot Creek, soon!... Thought maybe you knew of some 'secret places' you could let an older, respectful, not into 'thrashing up a place' type guy know of? hehehe. PM me if so, please?(I can keep a secret hahaha) I'm probably doing "Upper Peppermint" as well, but I'm concerned that they'll close off the pass to the 395, EARLIER AND EARLIER, each year, eh? So oppressive, this 'system' can be, hmm? lol.

PS> When you did the AFM swap, did you pull the wiring for the AFM through the front and leave it intact? I'm really curious about doing this.....???

Cool. We'll have to see when I head back that way, generally every other year or so. I have family all over California. LA, Camarillo & Bass lake. How far from Bass Lake are you?

I'm about 15 minutes from Bass Lake, Rob. Definitely let me know when you're going to be in the area.

Chef, I made extensions for the AFM wiring, when I did the swap. I thought about pulling the wiring harness apart, but decided to go the easier route. If I ever have to get into the harness for repairs, I'll likely eliminate the extension. Thanks for the compliments!

thanks for the pics. the CB looks great, I havent gotten to that point yet, still trying to get it good for the trails. I ended up cutting the mounting brackets and mounting it closer to the support, i now have enough clearance to make me happy. now tommorrow after work I will get my fan controller mounted and wired in so i can get back on the road, I will do the battery swap next time, I need to get some cable first. When do you think you are going to bald mountain??
