kinzer's 1989 Pickup Build-Up Thread

i bought my truck a couple years ago and if done a few mods so im going to write up a build thread of every thing iv done to it since i bought it.

89 toyota pickup SR5 V6 4X4 extended cab-$5600
169,000 highway miles. i even have the original craigslist ad.

first thing i did before any thing was remove the factory mud flaps. i pretty much hated them. and de-smoked the cab, the previous owner was a chain smoker, now you cant even tell someone smoked in it

i dont have many pictures of it before the lift because i didnt have a camera but here's what i got. black spray painted wheels, dual whips, removed the pin striping, magnaflow exhaust system, expanded metal grill, and took it wheeling for the first time

the next step was a 4" super lift which i payed way too much for. removed the chrome trim, slapped on a light bar and 2 kc daylighters.

next step was the brand new 33X12.50R15 super swamper tsl radials on 15X10 pro comp extreme rock crawler simulation beadlocks. i was way too pumped. along with my marlin crawler rear bumper. this was back when i didnt even know what marlin crawler and trail gear were.

http://s264.photobucket.com/albums/i...t=DSCN0300.flv

then i moved to north idaho! first snow of 2008.

i hate canopy's, this is the only picture of one on my truck, only reason its on is for moving.

the parents bought me a set of 33" cooper st's studded as a moving away present, they did pretty good.

got my new trail-gear rock defense bumper, couldnt wait to get it painted so i threw it on. later got it line-x'd and mounted my kc titanium slim lights. i also did the corner light blinker mod.

got ball joint spacers, sway away 23 mm torsion bars and shackles, then stuffed 38's for the hell of it. they rubbed the piss out of the fenders!

but i ran that for a few months then welded the front diff for a run. later took it to the moyie mud boggs!!!!

and then...

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu...deoid=57197343

caused this:

took 7 teeth of the ring gear and chipped 2 on the pinion. so i stripped the entire 4x4 from the axles to the diff and drive line and ran prerunner for a while. SAS HERE I COME!!!

its like xmas:

and so we begin...

while waiting to finish my axle i slapped on some sliders:

and then the torching begins:

wheel base came to 125 inches, put the heads on the alignment machine and the right side was less than 1/8th on an inch shorter.

first trail run with the solid axle-

put some trail gear "better than stocks" in, well in my opinion thats bull cause i broke one the next run.

put in some black projection headlights and painted the grill and light trim black:

moving on to better things, i am currently running 38" tsl bias's, welded front, aussie locked rear, 5.29's, dual t-cases with 2.28 and 4.7 23 spline gears with a budbuilt flat skid.

well this is where im at so far, i will keep updating every little thing i do from here on out. let me know what you think.

Dude, nice truck. I like the transformation over time. How you liking the SAS and the double case? Kinda what I wanna build my 4runner into, Only I'm swapping out the engine as well. And I like plated bumpers.

Pretty sick truck! Your next step could be e-lockers & a 5vz or 1uz swap... Either way, looks pretty solid.

I was amazed by your truck in that SAS pickup thread you started, good to see the entire evolution, great job on everything. I still can't believe how clean that thing was when you got it!

i love the solid axle, best wheelin decision i ever made, and i like the dual cases even more. but you have to be 4 locked for them to work other wise you just have 2 tires spinning really slow.

well as you can tell the axles dont put up much of a fight, a really good way to go as far as cheap traction but you gotta have long fields other wise you break stockers left and right, i broke another one last night. thats 4 for me and 14 for the axle.

thanks, ya id really like to go trd e-locker front and rear, but cant afford them at the moment. as far as an engine swap i not gonna touch it until the poor 3 liter starts to show signs of failure. so far so good with 193 on the stock head and gasket

What kit did you get from TG? 1500 seems low from what I've read, but I guess you did most of the work?

the axle is out of an 85 toyota, it has the full lower truss.

the kit is the tg ifs eliminator kit, i believe the kit was 1100 bucks, plus rear springs and shocks, then i upraded the front to 5150's and the full axle armor.

best wheelin in north idaho.... compressor creek, this is the top where we fooled around before we headed out. the rocks up the creek are freakin intense.

gotta love tire bulge.... 3psi without bead locks

reversed a shackle and bent the spring, then ripped of a shock hoop on the way back down.

few weeks ago i bobbed er! 13"
