thought I would keep a log of the Runner's progress.
Started with a 2010 FJ cruiser with some nice mods
got tired of beating on a 30k vehicle that I was paying on So I parted out and traded in for a fun DD and swooped the Runner cash.
there she was....
1990 4runner, V6, 4wd, 5 spd, new clutch, 265k miles on the odo and rebulit 75k ago. $3k price tag.
Went and checked it out and found that it was puking power steering fluid from the box and needed tons of love. (random broken handles and switches that didnt work)
Talked the guy down to 1600 bucks and I was on my way with a new project/weekend beater
Cleaned it up and did a few cosmetic changes. removed the bashed in lower bumper valence, painted the grill and bumpers. added a rear spacer i had laying around. And threw on the 285/75/16 km2's + enduros from my old FJ.along with the cobra 75 and firestick.
Had a habit of running hot with the AC on (granted this was in 100+ weather) so I decided to change the Thermostat, radiator, and convert to an electric Fan. (taurus fan mod)
problem fixed.
Took it behind the house to mess with the 4wd system...surprisingly Open/Open does fairly well. (used to the e-locker + atrac from the FJ....so I was a little spoiled before.)
heard a clicking noise and realized both my cv axles are shot....Not just ripped boots... We are talking boots ate 85% gone and no grease
replacements waiting to be installed.
Need to hit the junk yard and find some manual hubs for my conversion, then will attack the new axles and brakes while I am at it haha
Future plans:
TG front bumper to mount my XRC8 from my old FJ
Spartans F+R
and a roof rack basket to mount all my goodies from the FJ.
