and at the other end of the same street:
(taken yesterday evening, 3 days after the storm, and it's still there this morning. a few neighbors are still running gennies, and i'm still lending power across the street and yard)

Good Grief! Glad you're ok, man! I heard SO MANY guys from your area/and surrounding that were just FUMING how long everything was taking.... One guy said, "I'm in Virginia, ....and I have buddies serving ministry in 3rd World Countries that have power back sooner after worst storms!!!.... That's what we get for putting 18 panels under the workers who get it done! EVERYTHING takes longer with public unions!" hahahahah... I AM NOT dogging all public Gubbament sectors, Ian.... Just this guy... He made me laugh. lol... He had a good sense of humor about it.. But kind of a "C'MONNNNN ALREADY" stance on it? hehe.
Again, GLAD YOU'RE SAFE AND THAT YOU HAVE JUICE!

well crap
my transmission now sounds like a jackhammer (a quiet one, but a jackhammer nonetheless)
i was trying to merge, no one was letting me in (~35mph) so i hit the brakes and downshifted to 3rd to get in behind them. the drivetrain sounded like it just hit a rock, and about a mile later, the jackhammer noise started. i checked all the driveshaft bolts and spun it by hand, so i know the sound is coming from the transmission. later, i'll drain the tranny and inspect, but now i'm on the lookout for a new trans. oh joy.

nope, this is "all noise, all the time" no matter the speed or load. of course the rate changes with wheel rotation, and the noise varies with load/gear position/speed/etc, but it's always there. and i was sooooo close to 200k (i'm sitting at 199919).
that's ok. i have a line on an awesome drivetrain setup, so we'll see.

Sure it isn't the clutch? Or throughout bearing. You worked that clutch pretty hard at RC.
I've only heard Trans making grinding noises, not jack-hammer like sounds.

Damn Ian, sorry to hear about the transmission issues...big repairs like that are never any fun...Looks like you found a pretty nice replacement though.
I got lucky with my transmission because the PO replaced it right before I bought it. I found a receipt for a transmission replacement in the glove box when I bought it.

heh, it's all right. i've gotten used to big issues happening. and really, it won't be all that hard, as i've done it before with the clutch replacement. the only thing that worries me is getting all the shifters to line up. i'm planning on doing quadruple-sticks on top of the block-off plate on the trans (rear-disco, 4.7, 2.28, 4wd).

So you paid for that trans and need to pick it up, right? It's an R151F? DAYUM! I've been looking within 100 miles of me for a while! No luck.... Well, the occasional shop saying, "1500$!!! CHEAP, COME GET IT!!!" hahaha... But not private that I can find. Great find, Ian, congratz!

some pics of the trans in the hanger...
advance adapters 4.7 housing
where the linkages will go
reverse sensor (i think)
neutral switch?
gonna have to convert the cable-driven to electronic spedo
and the rear disconnect. it's nice and smooth
tomorrow? put it in the basement!

Wow, nice.
First sensor on the transfer is your 4wd indication light switch.
Do you have the cable driven speedo sensor? You can mate it to your electronic speedo, there are threads around, or by a sensor from marlin.
Trans will have a reverse sensor and neutral, two different.

yeah, i was planning on using marlin's sensor. seems easy enough to add in.
also, moved the trans to the basement to work on it. it may be low head-room, but it's nice and cool
pro tip: furniture dollies work wonders under trannies
so that's my project for the next week or so
