I would be concerned, Ian... Not by normal highway wear, alone... but equally so when you go through gravel, etc. Not sure if that's called "Peeling"... but I've seen that, before, ... and I only remember it getting worse, quick. Aren't they new? Warrantied? Doesn't look deep enough to be tread separation, ....strange though. Think maybe you parked in some chemical somewhere that ate through that top layer?

the tires have ~50k on them. this is the only tire with a problem. i'll have to look when i bought them, but i think it was less than three years ago. bfg, "long trail t/a" (not "radial long trail t/a"), 235/75r15
mark, i looked at the website. bfg's aren't listed

well crap.
i was inspecting the other tires, and found that both of my front tires have that. the right side was a little worse. but now i remember that i had a hard stop on wet pavement last week. locked-up front wheels for ~25 ft.
anyway, i'm getting new tires sooner than planned. i'll be going with goodyear duratrack 31's.
grr.

I hear ya.... And, Sorry bout the link not leading to your tires. I couldn't remember which ones you had. I had Long Trial TA's that lasted FOREVER... like 100K.. I'm starting to think that, while tire making has advanced, they're not putting out AS GOOD of a tire in many companies(on the middle/more affordable end.... Sure, runflats are another story, lol)....
Anyway, best wishes on the sale and such... I agree with Brandon... I've driven on tires with wires showing, so DEFINITELY worse has been on mine a couple times! hahaha... But hey, if you're gonna have a win/win and already planned on new tires(I remember that)... well then, WOOT! lol.
Done your research on those tires you're getting, have ya? (that was a rhetorical question.. I KNOW how you do THANGS! lol)... But just curious...what made you decide that? Better in all weather/snow-ice, etc.?

FWIW I had BFG ATs on my truck and got more than 6 yrs out of them or about 150k kms... [i drive a lot]... I just went with the hercs. time because I wanted a better winter tire... for the non-winter we ended up having lol... planning on getting another set of BFGs in the spring if funds allow...
Those tires you have there look like the outer layer is starting to delaminate... does'ny look like it's an emergency issue yet but I would monitor them carefully...

Ahhh, I gotcha, Ian. Yeah, tire comparisons/loyalty can be CRANIAL ANEURISM INDUCING! LOL.
I agree with Paul.... While I would be concerned for ANYONE I want to see safe, who might be riding on questionable tires.... I can't SAY when or if they'll disintegrate anytime soon, ya know? Like I said, ... I just would hate for you to get stranded or worse. OBVIOUSLY, any tire place would likely tell you the same thing, all of them, ........."OH BOYYYYYYYY, that's really bad, you're going to turn into a Pumpkin at Midnight!!!!" lol.
Can't wait to see your Red Roller with some new shoes on her... That'll be nice, Ian. You using the Shell for Rausch? Doing the Cargo area kit?(when time/money allows, of course)... ?

OMGOSH, ...DERRR! Sorry man, lol... Didn't even think about that. Yeah..... Do you not want to have a shell anymore?/Planning on a Can-Back?/....Just curious, as I LOVED having a snug-top on my PU's.
Keep up the good work, Ian.... I know it's a way off... .still, excited to see you out there in that Trailer!

what i really want is a combination of standard bed, tube bed, and tool-box bed. however, that's not going to happen anytime soon. i like it with the toolbox in the back. when searching for a cap, i really like the plain sides (no windows) with paint that matched the truck. hard to find. i settled for the high-back one because it already matched the paint and almost matched the cab slope. a can-back type of rack would be neat, too.
