Ian, understand that the sleeves for any side of the main(front or rear) are not made of the same hardened metal the crank surface is, therefore a sleeve solution will have less a lifespan then you may be aware. This is why it is suggested to find a seal that doesn't ride in the same location on the crank.

I was thinking the same thing. Chances are the crank isn't even grooved. But of course those sleeves can't be all that expensive to have just in case. But a rear sleeve wont wear out nearly as fast as a front sleeve will.

BTW Ian I still haven't found that seal. I think I might have thrown it out.

d'oh!

it's ok. i figured i'd need to buy one anyway, just to get at least one with a different wear pattern

thanks guys. the sleeve is more of a precautionary thing... if i need it, i'll use it. but i won't know until that clutch is out

you mean the rear-main? haven't done it yet, probably won't for another week or two. the engine is running just fine. still have a tiny exhaust leak, but i'm not too worried about it right now. the clutch should be fine for another month before it'll get really bad, so i hope to get that done sometime in january

nothing really to report, as it's my holiday break, and i have some downtime. i am trying to get the trailer camp-worthy, so i'll let you all know how that turns out.

Hey man, ..... Just mentioned the input shaft seal because I've had 2 now that've given up the ghost around 200k..... Of course, the last one was around 140K, done by the PO and BACKWARDS, remember? lol. That was install error... but the White Runner I had started leaking at 200k and looked a lot like a rear main leak.... So I just thought I'd throw it out there, why not, right? lol.

Have a good New Years, Ian... and the rest of the year as well. WOW, 2012..... WTH HAPPENED TO 2011???? hehe

The breather mod is easy, I ordered the 90930-03136 from dealer when I saw them on another thread during the summer and got some unions off some blown engines in a SY and got some hose and used some spring clamps and ran back one behind drivers side tail light all the way to the top of the bed and did the same in the engine compartment as high as I could get it, for a little money I'm more comfortable with deep water, there is one on trans or is it the transfer case, gotta look back into it :}LOL brain fart on that one guys.

The barbed ones with the metal caps are on there tight and barely moved so I pryed them a bit so they'll go up and down like the other kind that screw in the diff, if you do or not your call, my thought is if they didn't move and were tight to the plastic base how in the heck does the air get in and out so I fixed them...

Ps. The one behind tail light I got a clamp out of extra part box and the tie down hooks have captive nuts on the inside of tail light area so I got another same type tappered head bolt that I had from another truck in my bolt box and the threaded part sticking inside tail light area further and put clamp over that and got a nut and tighten it down clamp to hold the hose there so it wouldn't fall out easy peasy and I used extra parts I pick off the ground at salvage yards, I fill my pockets full of misc nuts, bolts, screws, clamps & nylon inserts for screws (they come in very handy) and anything I might be able to use later...

.

Are you doing both front and rear breather extensions? If so where are you running the front one to? I did the rear on mine, and it's up behind the tail light. But I have no idea where to run the front one.

thanks! we've been putting out the train since i was in second grade. it looks even better with a bit of snow

the breather:
rear: probably putting up by the fuel filler, behind the panel
front: wherever. i think i'll use a wire clamp to secure it to the inner fender somewhere

I was thinking right on the firewall next to the brake booster for mine. If I get water up there, I'll be sucking it in.
