ok, so: picking up the hi-lift tomorrow morning

question to all: i found a driver's side bed-side for $75 on cl, 1 or 2 minor dings, painted the dark green, no stripe. how hard would it be to install said panel? something i can do (i have a welder at the moment) or something that a body shop can do fairly easily?

Interested to see on this 'bed side portion replacement' section of your thread.... NEVER KNOW, right? lol

Is this due to the infamous 'Volvo Incident of 2010'? Does this mean you'd be painting the whole rig, btw? OOOH!

From what I've seen YotaRob2005 do, I think if you're properly motivated and have the stuff's.... you could do a fine job or replacing portions. I think you're speaking of just removing the tacks and separating your dinged bed-side, then welding in the new one, right? Might actually be a bit more extensive than Rob just cutting a portion out.... But maybe not. (And Rob's is a 1st gen T4R)

Anyway, wishing you the best, either way.... We know one thing... The "body shop" will not be cheaper! lol. UNLESS, of course, ....they owe you?

Bedside = Doable

Your 3rd gen truck bed side is much easier to replce then the 2nd Gens.
You will need to:
-Remove the bed
-Drill/Grind every spot weld on the bed side
-remove bed side as gingerly as possible, air chisel..
-Hammer and dolly
-Clean/prep paint(weld thru primer or self etch)
-repeat for new bedside, may need to drill additional holes(rosets)
-fit bedside with clamps and self tapping screws sparingly
-fit to bed so lines, line up
-begin to fill rosets one at a time, moving to opposite corners until all are filled
-grind welds
-touchup self etch paint
-seam seal factory areas
-fix dings
-prime and paint

seems like alot of steps but it is pretty simple. the grinding and drilling take the longest.

mark, it's the "volvo incident of 2011"... it seems like such a long time ago. shoot.

thanks guys (rb and mark). seems easy enough to do over a dry weekend. maybe next weekend? i dunno.

picked up the hi-lift today, in much better shape than the price i paid

and got the bedside for $60. turns out the guy had found a new bed entirely.

also got one of the circuits done, going out to test it now.

really? now i'll have to go start a thread called "where do you mount your hood". seems like there's a thread for mounting everything (or soon will be)

took the truck for a spin around the block (a 5.5 mile block) and just finished an oil change.

the circuit works, and i discovered some more stuff:
1) the fan never came on until i parked it at the end of my drive and let it sit (~5 mins). then it came on for a few seconds. my radiator works well, and the e-fan swap is definitely worth it

2) i forgot how i had hooked up my aux-box. there is always 12v, but the ground is switched. drats. that's why the fan doesn't turn off with the ignition

3) i used way too much wire for hooking up the indication circuit. about twice of what i needed. rb- got those measurements? (12v hookup to fan controller, fan controller to where you want the led's) i'm going to be working on the second circuit tonight/tomorrow. i'll figure out the cost tomorrow

4) if anyone else wants one of these circuits (only a single indication, not dual), i might have enough to make a final one

after my morning drive, the fan only came on once. when i pulled into the parking lot. definitely a good investment

So reworking(relocating) the ground, pertaining to the fan, fixed your issue?

Oh, btw, I'm starting a "How to make a bowl of Cereal" Thread! hahahahah

i haven't moved it. my aux-box isn't meant for high loads, so i'm just going to leave it alone until i decide what to do.

Ian sorry i never got you the measurements. if you give me about 12" lead on each piece that should be fine.

thanks

rb- this one's yours. ~8' on the led side, and ~6' on the power side. both meet at the sensors.

irab you seem pretty good with electrical. I'm about to wire up 3 power outlets and keep reading about how important relays are. Didn't you have a diagram on how to wire up a relay? Do you think I should use a fuse block as well?

i'd need to see where you want all the outlets, what you have already, and what you want to run off of these

give me a link to your build thread, post some pics of the afore-mentioned, and we'll go from there! sound good?
