it's not the snow, so much as the 3 million commuters on the roads at the same time. the combination of the two sucks.

loooong week. five 15-hour days of nothing but work and school

anyway, i just hit 171717 tonight

and made this in class. took me the better part of 4 hours and a trip to lowe's at dinner break

oh, and here's my two cents on that issue

thanks! it was just a quick project in class. i bent the bottom of it so it sits on the tranny tunnel (the center hump). i was thinking about removing my ashtray and doing what you're suggesting, but then i got my new cb, which is even more compact than that. good luck with mounting yours!

...if a) i had the time and b) i had the tools
i made it in class, so it was a one-off thing to occupy the space where i want a center console. i might sell or trade it for a console.

aaand i popped the fender back out. looks better than before, and i can live with it until i save up for something bigger and better. maybe just better...

finally popped the vovlo-dent back out

after the first pull, with minimal effort, it took shape

then i began with the bfh and a wrench

here's how much it had dented in (from the brackets to the skin)

more hammering

for reference, the un-damaged passenger side

almost done

and finished. took a few pics so you can see the contours a little better

took me all of about an hour. i thought i was going to be at it all day

Nice job dude.
Do NOT buy Bondo. Bondo is a brand and quite possibly the worst mud/filler/plastic you could put on your truck.
Find a supplier that will sell some MarGlass or 3m products. There are others...just not Bondo, or anything your local auto-parts store would carry. Find a AutoBody supplier, or come up to my house and i will LOAN you some mud(perhaps a topic for wrench day this spring?).
For now make sure all the bare metal is covered so it doesn't rust.

no body filler.

i'm not going to, because i don't need to. the panel is getting replaced, weather it's just the side or the whole bed. i've never been a fan of body filler, and i'm not going to start now. also, i'm trying to save up for my repair down the road

@rb- thanks for the offer, though

just remember there are right and wrong ways to use filler. Most every vehicle that rolls off an assembly line has filler somewhere. Heck, my bike tank is all filler from the factory.
There is also high build primer(spray filler).
i'd rather see dents and dings, then shotty mud work any time.

so in this cold weather, i've been listening to the engine more than usual. one thing i've noticed is the alternator "whirring". it gets louder with each load i apply, but is always faint. also, when i turn on my hellas, the idle dies ever so slightly. i know that is normal, to an extent. just wondering if it would be worth my while to upgrade the alternator...

i like the lce kits, but i guess i could figure out the 1-wire gm thing with an adapter bracket, using this and this as my sources

^^^ uh...YES
A more powerful alt will recover the battery quicker as well. Not to mention you will be a step closer to a winch install.

that's what i thought. i'm not opposed to doing it (i probably will be doing it sometime down the road), but i've heard people say that idle rpms aren't enough to charge the system. on the flip side, i've heard they put out over 60 amps at idle, which is probably where mine is now

one of my future goals anyway

also, i'm going to be upgrading the wiring near the battery to a) get rid of my rat's nest and b) make it easy to add more stuff (like a winch)
