irab88's 1993 PickUp Build-Up Thread
#2505
This is an important update: I have done almost nothing to the truck in about 2 years. That is all.
Some minor things:
- Patched the gaping hole around the shifters. I want to re-do the tunnel in the future, but it's painted and 90% covered for now.
- Replaced the parking brake cable that snapped a few weeks ago. Old one rusted through.
- Designed and printed tube door mirror clamps. The old mirrors broke when I moved and the new ones had clamps too large for the doors. So I made some that fit:
And that's about it. Now back to our regularly scheduled hiatus.

Tranny issues, no the auto kind.
"Red Rover"
not a true "build up", but more of making it ready for camping. it will be a slow process, but i intend to get it done before the end of 10-11 winter.
and off to a good start, got myself a camper shell. finally.
Attachment 84100
to do:
-3.4 swap [in progress, check link for updates]
-lift (t-bars and aal's) [done, bj spacers added later, sas in future]
-autopal headlights [done]
-electric fan [done, broke, uninstalled]
-floor insulation [done]
-roof rack or hitch platform (or both)
-light bar (possibly)
-mustang seats [done]
-electric locker in the rear [done]
-bus bar and aux fuse box [done] - to be revised heavily
-breather extension [done]
-r151f, 2.28 & 4.7 [done]
-sr5 conversion
-sliders
-front bumper
-rear bumper
-tube doors [done]
-dual batteries and relocation [coming soon]
-on board air
-on board 115v ac
and future considerations:
-front e-locker
-drivetrain lift
-tube/utility bed
suggestions welcome
to be continued...

This is a build thread, for my pickup, 1993, with what was a 22R-EC engine, replaced with a 5VZ-FE, from a 4Runner, all with manual transmission, which was also swapped at one point with another manual and dual cases.

This week is a vacation week! Even though everything is closed, we're still taking the week off and staying indoors with copious amounts of junk food and internet.
The truck is doing well. Had a fuel leak on the soft line just before the return port on the tank. Nothing but some reduced gas mileage for a day, then fixed. I'm trying to drive it once a week, but it has a driveline vibe (probably from the driveshaft). I'll need to balance it sometime soon, but it's good for now. And another thing I'd like to do is make some half-door/tube-door hybrid with snap-in canvas. I like the tube doors, but they aren't great for when it's just a little too chili in the morning.

Good news and bad... Some of the stuff fits, some doesn't, and some is almost there...
What fits with no issues:
-compressor
-high-side flex line
-low-side flex line
What doesn't fit, and what I plan to do:
-evaporator: the housing is different, so I'm planning on swapping the fittings from the new one to the old one, if I can find my brazing equipment
-high-side hard line: it fits, but doesn't line up with any holes in the front core. need to cut a hole.
-drier: bracket has no holes, need to drill baby drill
-evaporator: too far back. I don't know if I should cut into the core support to move it forward, but it's hitting the radiator as it sits
-fan: pickups didn't come with fans, so there's no provision for it. I'll probably end up modifying the housing to smash it in there somewhere
Lesson: 4runners and pickups have much different AC systems, m-kay?

After sleeping on it, I'm going to modify the system to fit. It's a few small things, but should work fine. First, I'm going to cut the bottom of the core support in a half-inch and re-weld the lip on for the condenser to sit. If I rotate the drier bracket and make mounting points for it, I can keep it from pushing too far forward. The evaporator will be re-used, but the connectors are stripped. I'll find a way to attach the good fittings from the '95 evaporator. And for the hard line from the drier to evaporator, I might either make a new one re-using the fittings, or look for a soft line alternative. I think that covers all the major issues, but I'm sure more will arise.

Glad to see you still posting on here, I miss the old forums and all the good information/discussions.
anyhow, I notice my lift is also doing the same thing, and it’s also a 4Crawler. Probably a good idea to replace them, but as long as the bolts are good should be safe.
im still plugging away at my swap, determining the best possible location to stuff the engine is taking a bit longer than expected. I wish I was already doing the wiring.
