yep. i checked all the obvious stuff (pcv valve, valve cover hoses, etc), so i know it's not a simple $10 fix.

in the meantime, this is the perfect opportunity to go out and buy myself a commuter car!

What kind of commuter car are you looking for, Ian? I almost grabbed it an 84 Cressida the other day... It was immaculate and a station wagon 5 speed! Unfortunately for me there was a guy there already and he gave a guy a deposit. Even though I offered cash right there,... And that was a very depressing day to say the least! Lol. I've been looking for one of those for a long time, at least worth fixing or even better yet, clean, and this thing was clean like right out of the 80's dude! I really miss my Cressida. That was a fun car and didn't attract a lot of attention.

I also was looking at a couple WRX, but they are always so tore up when I really dig into them. Lot of fun to drive, but such a trend( like the crest of those which are being all turned into drift cars) and people are asking way too much. Looked at an rx8 as well... Even checked out 99 Camaro LS 1. Now that was a fun test drive! Not my favorite body style, but he did get up to 150 and it wanted more! Hehe... I just really have to stick with a four door or at least with something that has a2 door with a large front door. That's why I thought the Camaro, but there's no way my mom to get in and out of that thing without trouble. :-( ....

I'm really excited for you! I know this is not a great thing to have to be doing, but at least you will be getting your truck fixed and you will have a little beater or project or maybe something better in the meantime... and knowing you, you're probably get something really cool like a 510 or an old Volvo or something just really interesting. Keep us up to date man! I think my neighbor is selling his ISF if you're interested. Hahaha. Maybe his GT 40 as well?

i'm sticking toyota with this one. probably will get a decent $2000 corolla 4cyl auto. i need a reliable commuter car that's easy on gas, and can haul me and three on a road trip occasionally. they're abundant on craigslist, so i'm not worried about availability.

i did find a 91 7m-gte 5speed, but the underside needed sooooo muuuuuch care that it wouldn't have been cost-effective. shame, it had a decent interior.

That stinks. If I stick with gas I'm going 3rz. But I'm determined to go diesel.

Where do you find that stuff? I know a lot of guys with the 3vz do a 5vz swap. How hard would a 3rz swap be?

I vote 3VZ-E swap. You know... 'cause all they're famously known for their longevity, reliability, and efficiency

like sodium said to bromine and oxygen: "Na BrO"...

it's funny and you know it.

but seriously, it'll cost only a bit more to do a full-on engine swap than to rebuild 20-year-old technology. i also need a good strong engine to tote my awesome toys (camper and boat in my sig) up those steep mountain grades. and look badass, too.

so yeah, the 22r-ec (god i hate that cali-emission crap) is going away. a lot of people who said they've done the 3rz swap say they would have rather put in a 5vz.

Okay, i did chuckle. I say go for it. If i was in your shoes i would go 5vz too, if money wasn't an issue.
So get started i want to see this.
