Ian,

Excellent thread! I have learned a load of things reading it. I am missing something though I think. Post 2060 looks like the trans change increased your fuel mileage? Am i wrong thinking that the Tcase's are 1.1 or under-driven?? not understanding how that change helped

first of, thanks, and welcome to yotatech

a few things of note about my transmission swap:

1) i needed to replace the tranny because mine was broken. i happened to get a good deal on the "new" tranny, which has the higher fifth-gear. on the highway, 50+ mph in fifth gear, i get better mileage (very subtle gain). i did not buy/swap the tranny for the purpose of gas mileage

2) the t-case is separate from the tranny (have different sets of gears). in high gear, the t-case does not affect the mileage

3) there is a difference between ratios written "1.1" and those written "1:1". the ratio "1.1" (also written as 1.1:1) is underdrive. the ratio "1:1" (as in the t-case, high gear) is straight-through, meaning the input turns the same speed as the output. no reduction or increase at all.

the increase in mileage was minimal, at best. i still need to compensate for my larger tires (only about .5" bigger, or a few extra feet per gas fill-up), but most of my driving was at 50-60 mph with minimal stops. that helped a lot. there are much better ways to increase fuel economy than swapping a transmission, so search around to find what would work well with what you have. i can drive my truck to 400 miles before the tank is bone-dry (22mpg, 19.2 gallon tank)

and in other news, i'm going to start work on a new, custom, fan controller. my dcc fan control has bit the dust, and i would like to have a controller tailored to my needs. stay tuned!

Thanks for reassuring me that I had not lost my mind LOL I did not even think about the fact you had changed to a different Trans also and the gear change would be there!. Again GREAT thread!!! I have not been able to drag myself away from it until I had read the whole thing!

Hey Mista.... you gotza big go-go tank! , hehe.... Hey Ian, just checking in. Busy in the new environment, I'm sure.... Congratz again. Far as the tank... I had forgotten that they went up after the 1st 4runnners and 2nd gen pu's... That's 2 more gallons than I got.

You're right about 'mileage can be had in many ways'..... Where i live, adding mileage per gallon in town is hard... Just sooooo much sitting still, stop and go/never getting out of 3rd Gear...... Driving 20 seconds, to the next red light, then waiting 3 minutes for it to change... end up driving/not driving/sitting, 30 minutes to go 4.3 miles to the mall, lol.

Any more pics of the pad?

view out my front door. it's easier to see the bay in person

front room

kitchen (pantry and fridge behind me)

my bedroom

fairly small compared to a lot of places i've been in, but it's just about the right size for me. it could stand to use a garage, though

But seriously, will they let you at least put up a Carport or something? My neighbor has a Pop Up one that's REALLY nice... wasn't too cheap, but it has roll down sides/HD tarp walls.... Wedge Roof... It's nice. Keeps his 'projects' in there. Like that pic of his crazy Bike i posted? Probably don't wanna spend money like that.... But just curious if you could/planned to, if you're allowed. I know how tough it can be to DIY work on cars and not have a garage/cover.

I don't know much about that area... Ok, nothing! lol.... Does it snow at the beach?

VERY NICE LIL PAD, IAN! 3rd time, and more so now that I've seen it... CONGRATZ!!!!

i'm not too familiar with the weather out here. the bay does weird things with precipitation.

yeah, the owner (i'm renting from) is letting me put one of those carports up. not high on the priority list right now, but it'll get done soon enough.

Ahhh, ok... Well, you'll find out I guess? lol.... Neighbors will tell ya

BTW, YES, priorities move around, don't they?

Nice that you'll be allowed to, very cool. Just get it done before the FREEZING rains, etc., right?

i don't mind the cold too much. it's easier to heat an area than cool it and defend against mosquitoes

and i'm just renting (not renting-to-own).

with that view I officially hate you... but with that tiny galley kitchen I officially pity you so I guess it balances out use some of my, chef's and BT's recipes [to name a few] to score bra...
a "pop up" garage tent thing is cheap...

...how are you gping to fit a king size "playing field" into a tiny boudoir like that?
me thinks the gf [du jour?] will be disappointed...
