Better get some chains on it if you're going to be driving in all that snow. YUK!
I grew up in Buffalo so I know snow. That's why I live in Az.
Now that I think about it......everybody I knew had a car..........with open diffs. Nobody had 4wd and they managed.
It would suck to get stuck while old people in their Buicks motor on by you. So get that drive shaft in and don't embarrass us Toyota fans.

Just read the whole build. Your now my role model. I was about to start an om617 swap and a friend convinced me that I needed to rethink it, why go big and heavy with minimal upgrades when I could go tdi and have unlimited resources. So I have been on the look out for a engine. And an expert for tdi advise.
Great build look forward to see more

Wow just read this whole thread, really impressed with the motor swap! Are you able to run AC with the Volkswagen motor?
I just finished a solid axle conversion on my 89 4runner and have been kicking around a few different motor ideas, the 22RE is on its way out.

Studded snows on cars is fair game tho!!
We can legally run them 6 mths a year............
And our 20+" forecast = 4" on the ground ... FAIL
buffalo got it!!!
DONT worry
Its NOT leaving the shop till its proper
And at that point I plan to do the embarrassing of the local Jeep/big3 guys...

I saw/read/still look at OM swaps
IDK about it
Motor = great longevity
Its also kinda gutless for what it is...
Plus turbos and electrics are my thing
non-intercooled turbo systems make me laugh
I removed it in favor of vent windows!!!
HAHA
I see LOTS of the truck guys using it as an air pump
so that option is easy
its even wired in the harness for AC comp clutch
AND the ecm has the ability to UP' the idle control when AC demands it
However VW AC comps use a variable swash plate
So the clutch kick on ONCE and its variable load
UNLIKE the on/off/on/off/on/off cycling found on most - jap/americian/other
those systems cycle the comp for psi duties
(Very annoying when u see how zee-Germans do it' .....)
