I wired in some lights (that I mounted on a rear deflector I added), that should work in R or when I flip a switch. Actually DPDT, normal Reverse lights, no lights, or On/Off with another rear switch.
I probably got the idea from you, years ago. Just kidding on the Reverse Now. My tranny isn't even in. Good trade this week tho; I went to go watch grandkids for a few days.

and yes I need to get it on the road. The shop that did the work offered to help install the new transmission if I helped wrench too.
kind of want to see if it might be something simple like swapping the valve body.

Pick and Pull actually had a bunch of 2nd and 3rd Gen 4Runners today so took a quick drive and scored the parts I need for my 3rd Gen storage cubby in a 2nd gen experiment.
grand total so far is $30 so far

thanks Pat! Turned out I didn’t end up needing the extra trim piece or the door
I was able to cram the 3rd Gen cubby into the space where the speaker used to be.
and now I have room for the Jack tools
I did end up cutting off a couple of inches off the narrow end of the 3rd Gen cubby because of where the seatbelt mechanism is.
maybe down the road I will see if. I can make a locking door for it
I agree! Amazing work. It looks great. Almost like it was designed to go there. Wish I could do stuff like that. As a fabricator, I make a darn good radar tech. Oh well.
Now, the question to me would be, where will you put the speaker? Where will the aftermarket inverter go? Are you going to put an LED lightbar on the roll bar, for when you're sleeping in the truck? An inside latch release on the rear door, for the same reason?
See, I get tons of ideas, I just am completely incapable of putting them into effect. Well, I might be able to do the LED lightbar. Zipties are our friend...
not gonna say it was easy or pretty. not really something i would recommend as it was sort of a pain. if it was easier to make a new panel for a bigger access door I would do that.

Thanks, it is sorta ugly under the interior panel but is functional.
no speakers in the back. i only have a set up front.
no inverter yet
no rollbar. i do have some 3 watt LED's in the cargo area that are set up to come on with the stock cargo lamp or switched separately:

For the rear latch I can just roll down the window, unlock, pull of the center handle and lower it from inside. ** as long as I have the tire swung out to the side.

I had a day of vacation left, we went camping at the coast last week.
was caught up on junk around the house so decided to head to pick and pull to see what they had.
there was a couple of 2nd gen 4Runners that were pretty much stripped. I was sorta looking for a set of seat sliders to make my seat install easier.
forgot my tape measure so improvised with a window channel to get mounting measurements for the factory mounting holes.
wandered around trying to find something that weren’t trashed out, smelling like a 200 year old ashtray and would be easy to mount.
it was a long search but ended up with a set of 2006 Civic seats. Using the window channel tape measure I knew I would need to drill the inside front mount an inch or so over, fortunately Honda was generous with extra metal on that side.
the rear mounts looked like they would be pretty Dang close.
got the seats home and cleaned them up.
I ended up elongating the two rear holes. They worked out perfect using the two rear factory mounts
Drilled an offset hole for the front inside mount as expected
Outside hole worked just fine
hard to get a decent picture inside the garage but you get the idea.
I’ll get the driver’s seat mounted this weekend.

It is nice to have some seats that are comfortable and the cushions are broken down.
edit- and these appear to be heated seats. Was able to find the wiring diagram online
haven't really done much with the truck, working on work, life and home projects
i tried a layout like this on the roof but was thinking it took up most of the real estate:
decided to see what is available that would have a little more internal volume:
i looked at the pelican professional and other deeper case but thought for how much this thing
will actually get used this would be a good option
found this thing with good ratings and at a price point with in the budget:
I may take a couple of hours and see how about dropping the cross rails again. i think i can get them down about an additional 1.25" which would help a little bit.
i should be able to get basic recovery gear and other odds & ends up there and have space left over on one side for misc crap
this case has 6 latches, one on each end and 4 down the side. spots to put 4 locks on it.
i'll use some 1/4-20 security bolts to mount on the inside.
Starting draining ATF so I could maybe figure out what is screwed up with the transmission.
while waiting for that to drain.. seems to take forever I started to lower the cross rails for the roof rack so I could have the 8” thick storage box on the roof and get this thing out of the garage
hitch mounted vice comes in handy
lowered it an inch or so and will have about a 1/2” clearance to get it out of the garage.
hopefully get to work on it a little next week.
if not I have a month off over Christmas and New Years
Been wanting a pintle hitch for a long time for awhile for a few reasons
-rear recovery- used the on humvee recoveries a few times and they are strong and quick, just remember to put the lock pin to keep the top from coming up
-sort of as a rear hitch skid plate to prevent the spare from dragging if I ever get this on a trail
-main reason: if I get rear ended this should keep the car behind me from hitting the tire and drive their hood under the rear bumper with out hitting the tire and shattering the rear window
Might work, it it was cheap as a used return on Amazon .. looks in pretty dang good shape and it works as it should.
Only disadvantage is I will have to open the rear swing out to open the pintle for a recovery rope

They hold like a dream as long as it's locked down right and pinned. Never had one come open on me, I know that. Still and all, make certain you use the safety chains when towing, like a trailer. Just to be safe.

haha, this thing will only be used for recovery. This thing can barely move itself when the transmission is working. I might be able to pull a 500 pound empty trailer downhill.
