switching gears for a moment since my mind wanders, @RBX , are you happy with your Cobra Towers from 4WU? Im thinking about running them for my LT setup im installing since they come with provisions for limit straps and they are pretty compact. not a fan of the Trail-Mart hoops that most run and TC shock hoops are STUPID EXPENSIVE.
although i have yet to confirm, the PO of the LT kit believes these are the specs of the shocks(although the shocks are the older Blue andonization instead of black): https://www.ridefox.com/product.php?...ber=980-02-016
Love my 4WU 3-link with cobra shock mounts, however they mount on the top of the frame and would intercept with the torsion bars. But if you are going coilover this shouldn’t matter.

oooooh...good point. didnt even think of that. its not the T-bars that would interfere, its the whole upper control arm mount!

Ive got the transmission in my possession. And i have almost every part to complete the swap. went with the larger flywheel off the newer w56 trucks and a matching 1200lb marlin clutch. I found a company out here called Tea Garden Motorsports who made me a 5' Braided steel line to bridge the master and slave. Ive got a new throw out bearing and pilot bearing as well as new grease boots for the shift fork and both shifters. I found a guy selling a 5 speed SR5 Shifter surrpund and leather boot that wasnt cracked(small holes drilled, but im ok with this) and im picking that up soon. I also picked up a custom shift knob and transfer case shifter for Doomy's birthday. I figured this whole shebang has been a gift to her from the start, might as well continue the trend, right? hahaha. She loves them. Only thing left to do is to clean the underside of the 4runner and get it in for surgery.
In other news, i got the passenger side GTI seat installed. It sits a little high right now, but im going to go in and take about 3/4" out of the brackets and drop it down as far as the hump in the floorboard will allow me. The seat sits about 2" wider overall, so i cut the feet off the toyota seat and welded them to a piece of 1.5"flat stock i had lying around. after i got the seat centered where i wanted it, i welded some flat stock plates to the rear feet(couldnt run a bar because it would interfere with the way the bottom of the seat contours) and got the seat all burned in to where it was comfy. right now the seat does sit a little tall(seat itself is taller in the base cushion) but its got WAAAY more adjustability. Other than the fact that the seat bolsters tend to sodomize you if you dont jump far enough in the first time, theyre great! planning on doing the drivers seat as soon as the trans is finished.
and just this past saturday i decided to check the wheel bearings in the front. Doomy and I have been hearing popping and grinding from the front left for a while now and i figured the wheel bearing must be going. i grabbed the wheel(weight on the ground still) and shook it and heard a clicking. It was my daughters 9th birthday party that afternoon, so i had to wait until Sunday to get started. well, i got everything ready, jack the truck up, and give the wheel another shake in all directions. no noise in the vertical movement, just in the horizontal. and thats when i noticed that the joint on the pitman arm was thrashed. it was allowing close to 3/4" of play in the steering! The pitman arm was the one part of the steering that we hadnt replaced yet due to it breaking 2 of our pitman pullers. So some thinking between us and my dad and i decided that it would be better to cut a line in the arm with a cutoff wheel and chisel the arm loose from the steering shaft. Worked like a charm. got everything bolted up, torqued down, and regreased and the truck is back to being nice and tight again. Now we just need to replace the tie rod adjusting sleeves(one seized while they were trying to align it) and we should be good to go until the long travel goes in.

Pitman arm failed. so we went to work cutting it off with a cutoff wheel.
Knicked the box, but it should be just fine.
after hitting the cut with a chisel and a sledge, it finally cracked the arm and it fell right off.
New pitman installed and all greased up.

Nice work on the seats, it will be nice to have the new transmission in. New arm should help with handling.

And how do you like Texas so far?
Seat is super comfy once youre in it. Looking forward to having the trans in as well. kinda sick of the auto. and, yes, the arm has fixed all the wandering issues we had. The leak up front is from the timing cover. i need to pull it off and reseal it, but i dont have a whole lot of motivation to do that because its such a pain in the ass.
we dont live in texas yet. we are renting the house out. our date to move in is august 1st 2022.
