Chef, I think that you will end up getting a lot of money back from this effort. You may even make some selling all the good left over parts.
Then when those are gone cash for recycling the rest.

That is a good looking runner.
You may want to cry. I have the elusive runner that is an exact twin to Ruby. I always thought you had the most loaded runner I had ever seen and I have one in my own back yard. 87 SR5. This one came out of a salvage yard and had most of the extras removed, that is the reason the guy bought it was for the options that it had on it as it was cheaper to buy the whole truck instead of pieces. Then I came across it.
This one has the glovebox light, the plug for the drop light by the gas door release, sunroof, electric door locks, mirrors, windows. It is missing the door panels like yours had. Maplight, rear pockets, inclometer, cruise control, electric antenna. I am sure I am missing somethings as well. Seats were sold but am sure they were the SR5s. Where some kid painted the SR5 stripes, you can see gold underneath. I got everything to get it running and most of the options that was removed.
This is the one Hunter is wanting to paint up in Slimer Green with 35s. That is his plans for now, will see how that goes. It looks bad but is solid. I got a feeling that I am going to be swapping harnesses with this one and he is going to get the base model harness that mine has just so that I can have the options that mine doesnt have.
Can you post a picture of the trim code panel on the firewall under the hood on yours?
Electric plug by gas door release.
Glove box light.

The only thing I have seen is a drop lamp that plugged into it. I think there were a couple of other things that could be used on it but dont remember what they were. Was not made for a lot of power. The only one I have seen was in picture and was Waskilly Wabbits 89 runner build. I tried to find the picture of it, but he may have deleted his thread when he left YT.

The plug is the Inspection Light Socket and it came with a short drop light in a plastic case that you keep in the glove box (or wherever). Per the original owners manual it is only to be used for the drop light.

Hi Chef, sorry to hear about the mishap with your rig. Glad you're okay. Don't know your budget, but the body swap sounds like a perfect time to also swap in the new motor. Easier to work on with all that sheet metal out of the way, if you know what I mean.

Chief, there's not much I can do from VA but keep my eyes open. Someone just posted Ruby's twin on the other 4Runner forum. It's north of L.A. Maybe you might consider starting over and moving Ruby's special parts over.

Ok,..... FUUUUUGGLESTIX ON CRAIGSLIST! Lol...
Actually, its not Craigslist fault in any way. But, unfortunately, the people that post things on there or either totally out of their mind what they are asking or are just completely unwilling to be honest. To be fair, the guy with the blue 4runner was totally honest and is in no hurry at all and basically said just to make any offer and see what he says. I am likely staying away from that one as it is a salvage title that was rebuilt... Because unfortunately I have no pictures of what happened and so forth...
Now on to today... I speak to this kid, and his father, and 3 or 4 times I am very clear but I have the premium CARFAX program in my phone and it will take me 5 seconds to find out exactly what the history of the car is... I even told him if its salvage just tell me I still want to look at it if it was minor damage... The kids got off work at 5 but gave me his address and I decided to head over to 4 Wheel Parts to pick up something(I am NOT going to reveal right now... Not yet.... It was just something I had to use for expired and I will share eventually). This guy's address was literally like 3 miles from there, so I drove over there to get the license plate which he did not have on him at work. Immediately upon pulling up I noticed that it definitely took one in the front end because the grill with sloping down but was still in one piece. The door on the driver side but also clearly to be worked on. The passenger side was fairly clean I didn't seem to have any waves or anything. So I look up the carfax for the hell of it,... First the pictures and then the carfax, here you go...
***************************
Is 100 for sure... I will not even get dressed to get into my car before I have at least the license plate, and preferably both, that and the vin#..... "Clean title".... ? Yeah, not so much! There are honestly at this point what seems to be as many scams and liars as there are reasonable purchases. The ones at a reasonable people seem to be asking 5000 for a stock truck that needs to work, and on tired independent suspension will usually totally stock lower end seats and no options.
I am still considering maybe just looking at the blue one... The guy sent me lots of information from receipts to the stores that he used for parts and he pretty much figured out what I need it for and said just to make him an offer, he just wants to get enough to get a little pick up to haul around crap. He no longer needs it because he bought a new 4runner. If the body is straight enough and not really having any issues with fitment or doors or fenders, then at least I know that everything else in the family would at least get my money back. I'm not likely to grab it but I figured I should at least a look since I will be going nearby there, probably tomorrow.
I could go tonight but i'm just still kinda pissed off about wasting time today. I'm not holding my breath or getting my hopes up completely on anything before I see it, but its kinda hard not to to some degree when you are in my situation.

Man that's frustrating! You want something relatively close, correct? Just so it's easier to transport.

Craigslist...dang! Just as bad as the yard listing things they don't have!
I've had good luck 3 out of 3 times that I went to buy something over about a 15 year period. The can-back, laker tickets, and the 88' runner. I passed on about two dozen other different things either after speaking with them on the phone or trying to decipher their incompetent emails If they even so much as hesitate on the phone when I ask a crucial question the red flag warning goes up, I might have lost out on some deals, but I take no chances with craigslist.
It will come Mark, patience.

HOLY BLESSINGS! .... I can't freaking believe what just happened! .......
Before coming home, obviously irate, and the third try down the toilet... I decided, before doing a couple errands, to take one more look on the modified Craigslist link that I was given.... BAMMMM! 1989 V6 SR5, low miles, never been in an accident, clean title verified.... After the ad was up for no more than 30 minutes, the guy already had 10 calls and someone was on their way to look at it. I told him I would leave immediately, whether the guy bought it or not, and that he could call me and tell me and I would turn around if he did. As I got in the car, he told me the guy was there and he would call me back in 5 minutes because the guy was already waffling around. Before I even started the car, he called me back and said the guy was trying to leave him a deposit... I said, " go ahead and put it on speaker phone,..." ..., which he did, when I then said, " he clearly told you he doesnt wanna take a deposit and I am coming with cash in hand right now, here comes a picture of it".... I sent the picture of the cash and the guy murmured and quickly walked back to his car and drove away...... I told him to please let me have first dibs, and he said, "no problem", and that I would be the last one tonight because he needed to get to bed by 11... And he liked my style but didn't really like the sound of most of the people calling. Haha... And after just over a half an hour drive, and 10 minutes of looking it over, I handed him an unbelievable price... and towed it home!
He spoke to me for over an hour while we waited and let the truck run, and I explained who I was on yotatech an Instagram and so forth. He picked my brain, for about a half an hour, regarding his 1985 4runner that he is wanting to build up... The guy did me such a great solid and I am so grateful! I hope that when he reads this he will become a part of the yotatech.com family and furthermore, come wheeling with us to Big Bear, and elsewhere, in the upcoming trips. Please, when he calls for answers on here, if anyone has a helpful hint for him, please help him out! Class A dude!
I don't really have any great pictures as it was at night, and its not perfect, it's an aftermarket paint job that was masked well and matched very well, but wasnt really perfect... And yet , the flaws are so minimal and the body is pretty much straight as hell with a perfectly fine shell, doors and fenders and hood that line up like it's right off the factory, doors that shut without any effort at all!... It literally feels like almost a new truck!
Before anyone asks, yes, I will be parting most of it besides the body out... But someone who has spent hours trying to help me find this, Albert, a friend of Nate from blaze land, will be getting first dibs. I'm not going to be giving it away or anything, I need 2 and will very easily make every dime I invested right back... But I wanna be honorable and at least live up to my word as he began to help me and looking for and finding a donor...
The other answer to the most common question I got on Instagram right away, which was, "what the hell color is that?" Lol.... It's actually one that wasn't very common but it is original color, and I don't know the name just yet but it is a light silver, which my friend always called "toolbox silver."....
Here she is in her bone stock glory! Lol....
YEAHHHHHHHHH BOOOOOEEEEEEY! Y'all, meet "Suzy-Q the Silverback" ..... ?????... Just throwing it out there! Lol....

YES!! Can't wait for the new transformation!
