mark too much pain will actually make it take longer to heal its why their (the drs an hospitals) so much into pain management if your hurting take something

me im a tough old hard scaled dragon that has been carved on since i was 4 (4 corrective eye surgeries from 4-9 yrs old) ive likely had more time under the knife than you rich an terry combined

if your hurting take something go sit down an stay cool that will help the antibiotics work an not stress your system which slows your immune system and the meds giving the infection time to get dug in an take longer

I already have and shall remain here til tomorrow, aside from getting up to move a couple times ( my fairly screwed up back will not allow me to sit here for the next several hours and then lay down in bed for the next 8 thereafter... I would be an absolute agony in yet another way! lol. )

I'm sure you have, and I do not envy you in that realm, dragon my friend! I've been quite the mess at times in life though... nothing like what you're dealing with right now which is just traumatic. You've been through so much but I guess you're better able to handle this chapter... but wow! I'm just pretty much broken almost every bone in my body including my skull and a couple vertebrae and herniated discs... just lately it's become a lot more tarsal bones issues and heel and joint and tendon as well... I guess you could say I just totally overdid it with sports and extreme recreational activities and so forth to the point where I'm paying for it now, probably much earlier than I should be. And one thing is for sure, and that is that I've known my share of fairly radical painful incidents... I suppose the two accidents near death experiences didn't help the situation either. hahaha... but I'm still here!

What's really interesting, regarding the current foot pain, is that I remember, as a child of around 12 years old, I would suffer from what is called Osteochondritis... it's actually the opposite of Caesars disease, which causes way too much blood in the Achilles tendon... mine was actually the opposite where it was a lack of blood that would cause just sudden and Incredibly stabbing pain... sometimes causing me to just collapse because my ankle would.simply give out... I can even recall one time being in an obstacle course when that occurred, and while I did finish, I was on the ground for about 10 minutes and could not put any weight on my foot at all. Then, it would just go away, and eventually , I can't recall exactly when, it just went away completely . The other thing I remember is having migraines so bad but I would literally get physically ill/throw up. This went on for years, and they could never find an answer as to why but did suspect that it was the fact that my right eye had such weaker vision than my left... Eventually that seemed to stop as well. Over the last couple years, I gotta say, I have spent way more time in pain than I am comfortable with! lol.

Okay, well I guess I will just do a little reading this evening and make a decision one way or the other on most everything that I have left to get. I got a trucker helping me decide on a radio... several Electronix gurus are helping me decide which switches and so forth... a couple of 4 wheel drive gurus helping me decide on a winch. .... And the rest of you, no less important, ever, in helping me make up my mind on things. I guess I just sometimes have a hard time deciding because I want to make the right decisions the first time on things that will last me a long time. even the rear bumper was a decision that I felt would be so beneficial in the end because I could tow with it and it would take one hell of an impact, compared to some of the other ones.

I know the bumper isn't the most popular spot to mount a CB antenna... but considering mine mounts to the frame securely and is quite a mass of metal in and of itself... I thought putting a tube mount and may be running a 5 foot tunable Firestik or Wilson... what do you guys think? I have a hole in my roof behind the moonroof already. that's where the previous owner had a CB antenna. he took it with him when he sold the truck and left the Mount with the larger style spring base up there.... I could easily run the coaxial but was already there back up to that spot... but I'm pretty sure I would have to bend that thing back quite a bit or just remove it altogether when I'm not on the road. I'm not positive that my roof rack will clear it either... I will have to look at some pictures.

you could use the roof rack as the base spring it so wind doesnt try to rip things off with a bit of give but also as the rack is over fiberglass get whats called a ground plane enhancer they used to have them a hex sided ball that threaded in under the antenna it had 3 -5 short 7 inch sub antennas to help make the CB transmit a flat long signal not high domed my whips both had them an i got excellent performance

it can if the threaded part is still there sure could!

one thing i caution you take your rig when you have the parts together cb antenna ect to a cb shop so it can be tuned or you risk cooking the radio they have to set the SWR's of the radio antenna truck assembly with a gauge they have in the shop you can listen to it but dont transmit till ya get the setting you'll notice too with it tuned you hear further an send farther as well with far less static

with whips they some need minor trimming or adjusting of the metal core (mine had these) i actually melted a set of fiberglass whips that were tuned wrong LOL

snuck in with that link the wilsons are a good brand and tune well 1/4 turn an off they come for garages an low ceilings

that would thread into a antenna base so like
coax wire--antenna base -- ground plane -- antenna (firestick whip type)

i wish i had a picture of my old 88 nissan kingcab with its dual whips right behind the cab with the ground planes when i worked security it came in handy talking to truckers an parts trucks coming in to unload

From what I've been told by several people in the know, as far as for working on a trail and even up to a few miles ahead, the handheld mini units without a box are probably the best way to go because I can simply unscrew it and take it with me inside whenever I'm not on the road trip. In that case so far I've found those Midland or Cobra, whom also makes Uniden..... I was told pretty clearly the ground, not coiling the coax and proper tuning can make most any of these radios work well... granting that they are not one of the more problem units nowadays.

Low range off road , 4 crawler, Wolcott and others have a great write-up to answer many of the questions.... I pretty much know what I want to do but the only part that I'm not sure about is how and where to mount my antenna. I posted a few above,....

ya dont need a SWR all the time unless your talking sideband which is like talking on ch 21.1-21.9 which makes people who arent wonder what the bleep are they saying as it garbles ya but it makes your talk clear as a bell they set your SWR on the middle of the radios range of channels so you get good reception transmission from 1 - 40 sideband talking blows that out to .01- 40.9999 unless your really into CB dont worry bout it (i had to have a frequency counter so when i keyed up i could see where the heck i was LOL)
this radio has it built in too cool! ch 40 is also 27.405 Htz


yes i am a child of a trucker raised part time in a rig so got infected with CB when very young LOL

i wonder do they still have the cb units where the microphone handheld has the channel display on it the main unit is under a seat hidden remove the mic an its safe cant use it without the mic which is compact an unobtrusive

unidens not bad back when i used CB's but had vibration shaking issues components came loose

the firestick looks good thats the kind i had with my old truck they dont get hot and the cb shop can quickly get the SWR's set with the adjustable tip

the mirror mount would work well for your rack unscrew the coax unplug the lights off comes the rack after a wheeling trip

the coax cable you want it to be heavy gauge as you can an short as possible to the antenna for best results

I just ordered all the parts (I hope) to get a CB running.

I'm not going for maximum range, I'm just looking to talk to other wheelers within the parks I go to, so I'm not worrying too much about the rules of mounting the antenna.

I'm planning to do this mount setup:



I got this antenna because it is supposed to be flexible for hitting stuff offroad, but it's not a super long wire wip that could hit spotters:

And I got this mount:

I'll have to mock it up on the truck first, but I may hammer a 90 degree bend in to that mount to get it to wrap around the corner over the tail light as it is in the photo of that white 4Runner.
