Well, unfortunately theres too much techno-babble on here for me to even begin to comprehend just what exactly is going on here, SO, I'll just say this! Nice work! Engina bay is still looking sexy!

And, this: Hi! Hows it going?

Chef is that thing done yet, lol.
I have read every single page of this thread and I must say at times it got to feel like a suspense novel, lol.
GREAT write up and AWESOME effort man. I hope it works out for you soon. I know this thread is gonna come in real handy for someone in the future.

Nice looking truck, by far one of the best near originals I have seen around.

hey there my friend, how is everything going, still having some issues with idling? FWIW, (forgive me if i already suggested this to you), I had some issues that were kind of strange, would change slightly with fixing and setting things, but never really went away, and it ended up being some extremely corroded harness connectors. above the ecu in the front pass. kick panel, there are two harness connectors. my windshield leaks down the a pillar and into thie corner where the kick panel and floorboard meet, and these two connectors were so corroded that the plastic of the connectors (they were yellow) had expanded and cracked, and the only "connection" there was through the corrosion. I cut them out and individually spliced everything, and good to go.
just something you may want to look into.
any chance the ecu or the idle air control thing is suspect?

HEY DEWIT! How you been, homie?

Actually, my build thread is temporarily moved to a "troubleshooting thread" ..it's in yellow, below, in my signature. Just click that link and you'll be caught up in the last couple pages. IT WAS THE ECU, for the most part. Still having some issues, so any input would be appreciated.

Thanks Man,

Mark

Well, I see I am not the only one having problems. Chef I wish I could help, but since you are the one helping me and giving me advice to get my rig going I am probably not much help. I did read up on the TPS, and the portion about how the "TPS controls a multitude of functions that one would not think was even related to the TPS", comes to mind. I have only skimmed through your thread but saw here on the last page where you were questioning the TPS. I am going to the junkyard tomorrow morning to get mine, feeler gauge and OHM reader in hand! I am sure you have, but have you replaced yours? Auto Zone had a new one quality unknown for $70, and the yard for $30. Good luck and thanks so much for your input on my current issue. For everyone else...this guy rocks! Dudes like Chef make Yotatech!

Well, I FINALLY HAVE A TEMP GAUGE! HAHAHA.

What a PIECE OF CAKE! Have to be careful, just because they're old, the plastic CAN break,..... make sure you get all the bolts first, yoink the plugs before the speedo cable, ....remove the Clear plastic plate( 8 Clips, ....CAREEEEFUL, LOL), remove 4 screws holding in Oil Pressure and Temp Gauge from back of cluster, ...'carefully' pull out the front. INSTALLATION IS REVERSE OF REMOVAL! hahaha.

For something so easy, I'm REALLY STOKED to finally have a coolant temp gauge that works! Also, before buttoning it all back up(the cluster housing, etc.), screw in the cluster mounting screws and drive up the street and check that the speedo is working(Thanks Flecker, ...I remembered and did just that), then buttoned it all up and let it run for a minute..... It crawled up, steadily, NOT spaztic-like and held temp for plenty time to know 'IT FINALLY WORKS 100% OF THE TIME, ....not 2% like it was, hahaha.

Just fixed my Oil Pressure Sender Connector, too! Removed the rubber boot, ...noticed it had just lost some of it's 'crimp' in the 'slide on clip', ....so yoinked rubber boot, crimped down the slide on clip inside and VOILA, "WE HAVE OIL PRESSURE, HOUSTON!" hahaha.

Sorry, I know it's no biggie, ...but actually, with a fresh motor that you've spent MUCH TIME and Cabbage on?...yeah, IT'S A BIG DEAL to know your Oil Pressure, eh? hahaha

Ok, well, I know it's been uneventful here, lately. I'm going to post this on my troubleshooting thread, as well, but I wanted to share in case some of you might have some input or advice.

I pulled the bumper, it just DROVE ME NUTS that it was so bent and looked like crud! lol. Here's a pic........

I called Toyota Specialists in Chino, CA., and they said they could get me the Trail Gear Bumper in one day, which I could go out and pick up. However, the cost would be the same as if I had it shipped to me, through Scotty at Addicted Offroad(great guy, very helpful and understanding/patient with my ignorance, hahaha). I guess it makes more sense to just have it shipped, rather than wasting half a tank of gas for NOTHING, EH? lol. Just a LIL STRAPPED, ...but I think I can manage it. Just hate to do the rear bumper without doing the Offroad Addicted front Bumper, ...REALLY nice combo, ya know? However, I think I'll just add a guard to my existing bumper so I can hook up lights and have it at least look a lil more 'right', once the rear one is on. 330$ or so for the rear, with shipping, no tax.

If I go the route of the stock bumper, it's 120$ or so, free shipping, plus 30$ each or so for the 2 caps I need on the pass. side rear(they got deformed), .....and I"d have to have my mounts checked/possibly straightened as well, ya know? I'm looking at LEAST at 200$ for the stocky, ....but that's a lot cheaper than 330$ See, I already have a tow package, as you can see from the pic, and it's REALLY heavy duty, ...so I might just have to stick with the stocky route for now, .....any thoughts? If I do keep the stock, I'm going to mount a bar on the rear for a step, and mount an 'a-hole' light to it as well. I might even torch out the holes IN the bumper itself to mount a good high power back up light or two, ....but we'll see. Just wanted to get some Yotatech opinions on whether I should just eat the 130$ extra for the TG bumper from Addicted Offroad, ....removing my hitch(the TG one DOES have a hitch built in, does it not????) or just go stocky and replace only the center piece, chrome, end cap and side panel on pass. side on the other route>>>>>>>???????

Separate Issue;

I recently bought, as you know, a bunch of goodies from that wrecked 87 at my local yard. GOOD THING, because when trying to simply remove the vac. hoses from the AC switching valve on top of the valve cover, ...it broke off, so I installed this one, from the wrecker, today...........

I also got some pretty good news, last night, from my neighbor. He got some R12 for his GF and the shop that was doing the work(a friend of his) forgot about it being in the truck and just used their own. SOOOOO, he's going to sell them to me, 3- 1# cans of R12, for 45$. He's also going to hook me up with a guy who'll evacuate it for free. He'll then run a vacuum test to make sure it will hold pressure(not leaking) and we'll FILL'ER'UP! However, I first have to replace a bad Trader on the High/Pressure side. GRRRRR! lol.

Looks like I'll HOPEFULLY have AC again, soon, granting no GINORMOUS LEAKS! lol.

Have a good one, guys,

Mark

well here is my opinion on buying the addicted rear bumper vs replacing with stock.... if u replace the stock bumper with stock and then decide u wanna upgrade to the tg rear u have a total investment of $530.00 saying u arent able to sell the stock rear which we'd say u got a $75.00 for all of it. 530.00-75.00=455.00. so 455.00 vs 330.00. what im getting at is if u can eat the extra 130.00 right now id go ahead cuz then u already have a hd rear bumper that wont bang up as easily and then jus start savin those pennies for an addicted frt bumper. make sense?

Yeah, it makes sense. Question real quick, ..... Can I drive in CA. without a rear bumper? I can't remember but I seem to recall that being an issue with CHP or something. I mean, the License plate is on the tail gate....so it shouldn't be a problem there. Anyone know?

Also, the reason I'm asking this is because, if it's not illegal, I think I'll wait on the bumper and put the money into reinforcing my front end(maybe the BJ's and new Shocks as well)??? I have a lil rake, and well, I hear a lil 'clunk' on bumps at times, especially when off roading. Does that sound like a ball joint issue? Kind of a "metal on metal" noise, ....and could TOTALLY history shocks make that clunking sound?

Chef hows the progress? We've been reviewing your thread and your trouble shooting thread but can't really come up with anything at the moment that you haven't already done or checked. I'll keep you posted if anything comes up!

Oh, and Mark, you can't drive in CA w/o a rear bumper lol my friend just got a fixit ticket for not having a rear bumper on his truck, but he had his license plate mounted.

THANK YOU, JOE! Dangit, I KNEW IT! I heard that locally, they don't really mess with it, but that CHP are really anal about it because of 'damages w/out them' being much worse???? Fhewwwwwww, good to know, I guess I'd better get that on ASAP! I'll be on the phone in 20! DANGIT, I should have left it alone until I got it! Grrrr!

Far as the bumper choice? I think I'm going stock-Chrome, because, well, it's 140$, shipped, with the cap/pass. side, for what I need to get it straight. The Trail Gear bumper, which I've found out is what Addicted Offroad and WabFab and most other sell? It's 330$ shipped, WITHOUT the side supports. Another 40$ for those, without shipping. That's 370$+++, versus 159$ or so, with tax, for everything I need. Can't really justify the extra 200$ right now, plain and simple. I'd rather put that into BJ'spacers and shocks, for the front, ya know?

As far as the 'hiccup' thing? Yeah, I think it's going to take a scope and more to really get to the bottom of this. I'm willing to try ANYTHING, but when 2 ASE Toy Mechanics send you home and can't get to the bottom of it, without the scope and whatever else they need, ...I guess I might just be at a road block, eh? lol.

It seems to be using more gas, most definitely. But it doesn't smell rich at all. Haven't replaced the damper or FPR, which I WOULDN'T until I can verify the fuel pressure. Still haven't had the time nor funds to get one. I'll keep ya updated. Tell your brother THANK YOU, SO MUCH, for taking the time to read through, ...a bunch I'm sure! lol.

No problem bud

That tow hitch sort of looks like a bumper lol you might be able to squeak by for a week or at least argue that one if you get a fixit ticket

Well, I'm insured through my clients, so I can't afford even a fixit ticket to come the mail, lol. I know, that sounds OCD, but really, it's not, because I've not had a ticket in the 8 years that I've been here, .....and I plan on keeping it that way, lol.

Yeah, again, it will be in the mail, tomorrow, and it takes 30 minutes to install, ....so 4-6 days shipping plus 30 minutes? NOT BAD, EH? , hahaha.

Edit, ..... I thought you had an 86 4Runner for some reason. Musta been what you were looking at on your page. Anyway, you have a 91 4wd Pick up, eh? Here's the site, ............

http://www.discountbodyparts.com/cat...9&No=10&Npp=10

QUITE a bit more pricey, geesh! However, I'd bet it's much more on some other sites. Good luck. I'll keep an eye out for ya.
