Hahaha.... Thanks, Paul. I do, constantly, and he's always got those things at his disposal.... which is how he's always eaten. My Food Science Degree is, THANKFULLY, full of that info, especially regarding the "eat little and eat often and STOP WHEN YOU'RE FULL!" philosophy. Another thing is MOVING! He has NEVER wanted to sit around as much as lately... And while Parkinson's has a fairly effective enemy in many methods of rehab/treatment... They're largely negated(for him, anyway), due to 1. His age/ 2. His age AND the level of harmful side effects induced by the med's for Parkinson's/ 3. His level of 'Severe' Spinal Stenosis(This is basically pinching off his spinal chord, more and more each day, and more aggressively/rapidly as he ages)/ 4. His Diabetic Neuropathy(it means, basically, that the nerves in his legs are fairly rapidly dying, .... even with Alpha Lipoic Acid[PROBABLY shouldn't take Neurontin, well, mostly due to his age, as well as it's common side effects.. A list that is pretty long for even younger/healthier people]he's fighting 2 battles at ones in his legs with the Neuropathy AND Spinal Stenosis.)

I try to get him on the exercise bike, at least an hour a day throughout the day...... He's totally and ANGRILY resisting that at this point. The mental issues that come with this are fairly severe and have come on VERY quickly(over the last year or 2 and ESPECIALLY over the last few months, since surgery).... Some of it due to simply Dementia, ...... some due to POSSIBLY Parkinson's(IF he does indeed have it), ..... and the rest of it is most likely due to, MOSTLY, the DEVASTATING effects of Diabetes and the 'ALL OF THE ABOVE' of which is manifests in it's victims.

To be honest..... which I have to be, objectively, most often(if I want to keep SOME semblance of sanity! LOL)..... IT'S AMAZING that he's still alive after all he's been through.... So, after we get all the results of the tests that are coming up..... We'll make a decision as to whether to put him through Spinal Stenosis Surgery or treatment of Parkinson's through meds. NEITHER is likely, as both carry HUGE risks, side effects and VERY little results(especially the surgery), even when they do work, especially at his age.

Thanks for sharing the good info, Paul.... I hope that even one person will take it to heart! As a person with a BA in food science and specialist cert's in Geriatric Nutrition/Pediatric Nutrition..... I VERY MUCH APPRECIATE you caring enough to share what is ABSOLUTELY true!

I would just add that I request EVERYONE who is going to take supplements to take them PROPERLY, according to instructions and ONLY AFTER seeking the guidance of a doctor(One that doesn't discourage SOME supplemental nutrition). Believe it or not, MANY vitamins can/DO react in a negative way with each other. Some even say, right on the bottle, "DO NOT take with High Blood Pressure Medication"... But RARELY do people read the bottles, in my experience. I have dealt with, personally, SO MANY people who have had issues arise due to a "I hate doctors, they're all out to kill you and take your money on the way there" attitude.... or that just have a propensity or family history of taking them, who often end up ignoring potentially or already serious issues they may be developing/experiencing. Try to get it from food, ALWAYS, first!

I'll give you an example... While it's still being studied, ..there is SERIOUS evidence that people taking Vitamin E, regularly, have developed SERIOUS health issues, even died, or had MUCH higher risk of stroke in many cases( http://brainblogger.com/2011/03/16/v...-consequences/ )..... VITAMINS AND SUPPLIMENTS CAN BE VERYYYYYYYYYY powerful.... Natural or not, they're not always 'reacting well' or 'naturally occuring or desired' with/by your body. MANY people take too much/or low quality C, B, D, Fish Oils(and the wrong type), and many others, things that they're paying through the nose for, btw! lol. All I'm saying is that people should NOT take supplements as 'an experiment' or solely on the 'advice of a friend/loved one'.... And please, try to avoid playing 'doctor' and doing 'self diagnosis' with everything. It's VERY true, ... many things CAN and DO reduce risks and have for many centuries, including, simply, BERRIES, GRAPEFRUIT, LEMONS, CHERRIES, GRAPES, DARK GREEN VEGGIES, WHITE VEGGIES, DARK SKIN POTATOES(1 red potato has the same potassium as 4 bananas), CHILES, DARK MEAT CHICKEN, HIGH OMEGA 3 AND 6 DHA EGGS AND FISH LIKE SALMON....AND MUCH MORE! Just because your Grandma ate sugar or pasta every day til 140 years old.... That doesn't mean it's healthy nor that you will live that long doing the same thing! lol. Most often, that longevity is 90%+ Genetic, according to almost every reputable study out there. Sure, eat healthy and you'll live longer.... Just make sure that the 'healthy' diet you're partaking in is PROVEN, not 'suggestive'.

If you're going to take Vitamins... TAKE CLINICALLY PROVEN, HIGH QUALITY ones... Some, for example, are often molecularly distilled. Some contain TONS of empty fillers that equate to ground up newspaper in regards to benefit. Also, many of them wind up undigested(sometimes up to 95%) and can impact your colon. Just do LOTS of research... After all, you're doing it to 'improve' your life, right? And, well, THEY'RE NOT CHEAP! So, why not get your money's worth, as well, right? There are MANY MD's that run Supplement Clinics, all over the US.... ALL of them take blood work from you, do multiple studies of YOU, specifically, before they even suggest taking anything! THAT is the best route to go... But hey, even speaking with your doctor, without tying him in a corner, can give you shocking input that is positive toward SOME supplements.

My stepfather took SO MANY supplements that we can't be sure, to a certain level, what damage/benefit that incurred. HOWEVER.... what we DO know, without a doubt, is that he was taking a number of them that were interacting, some that were even FORBIDDEN to be taken with 'Blood Pressure Meds'.... which he takes/took 2 of! Also, many of them, while helpful in someone 40-50, were causing a BUILD up of Plaque in his arteries..... So, here's a guy spending 300$ a month on what he thought would 'save him from the evil doctors'..... Only to find out HE WAS, in part, CAUSING his own more rapid demise! Who told him he could do this all without having to rely on these evil doctors?(doctors that had WARNED HIM, by the way, of his Arterial Plaque and Aortic Stenosis and Risk of Stroke and, .......should I go on?)... THE MAGAZINES, from Dr. Whitaker and otherwise... THEY told him what to do and how to "BEAT THE GENERAL CONSENSUS of the evil Dr.'s" .... They even provided him with 'their' preferred supplement purveyors. Which, of course, he became a customer of, thereafter reading Dr. Whitaker and others. I AM NOT saying Dr. Whitaker is 100% wrong... i'm not saying there isn't SERIOUS issues with Dr.'s over-prescribing meds and even prescribing ones that might be less beneficial than some natural methods of treatment...... But the bottom line is, they convinced him, and they NEVER, NOT ONCE, said, "Hey, you shouldn't take these if you've had a stroke/have diabetes/have high blood pressure/ or "by the way, these two should not be taken at the same period in time" ".....Ya know? Same with my boss.... He's A NUT when it comes to this stuff! You can NOT convince him that the sky is blue if he thinks it's green.... WHY? Because some Dr. you've NEVER MET in a magazine selling supplements told you so?

Again, sorry for the rambling.... and also 'Again', .......... I'm only saying to take on ANY supplemental dietary regiment SERIOUSLY, fully armed with the 'facts'..... Something that is often not present in many 'supplemental catalogs'.

Hey Terry, sup man? lol. Got the PM, and THANKS!

I went with my daughter to one of her bigger pregnancy check ups... WOW, what a wonderful young lady she is turning into, more and more each day! Love my girls! lol......

Took a pic that I'll put on the Yotatech girls' thread, lol.... My Prego Daughter with the Runner! hahahaha.... She said, "Hey, I'm proud of what you've done to this truck, dad... I love the calendar. I know it's not something you want to say "you're proud of", cuz everyone on there helped you and stuff... But seriously, I always loved this truck and the white one you almost died in.... And it's really nice... I'm proud of you!" ..... WOW, that felt good, eh?!?!?!?!?!?! hahaha. So I told her, .... LET'S GET A PIC! .......

She's due July 4th! So grateful to have 2 healthy and beautiful daughters!

Or dis......

Ahhhhh, I have to be honest, I didn't get the wording at first.... Sorry. Ok, "Do I legally have to have a CAT in TX?" ....that's what you meant, right? I honestly have no clue.... I have a couple buddies on here that are Texans, ...they would know. I would just call the equivalent for the DMV in TX and ask them... They'll tell you right off the bat, bud. Best wishes on the move... YET ANOTHER fleeing from CA!

Those are some good looking berries Mark...
congrats on the coming addition...
personally I always feel a little sorry for kids born on holidays... they always seem to either get ripped off in the gift dept. or lost in the hysteria of the holiday...
a kid born on the 4th is always gonna get a fireworks show which is nice but getting together with their buddies is going to be hard when they are all off with their fams.

and of course there may be a lot of unfortunate jokes made in reference to that crummy Tom Cruise flick... if anybody young even knows/remembers it anymore that is...

Good warning about the docs Mark... a lot of folks have multiple drs. for different things who write scrips without checking on what else you might be taking... this is where a good pharmacist comes in... if you go to the same one all the time they should be able to spot any interaction issues... some chains have a registry type service that tracks this type of thing no matter which store you buy at...
in any case when you see a doc tell them if you are "on" anything so they can be aware when making choices... *note if you are someone who uses "recreational substances" ie "grass" etc. tell them that too... even if it's to control nausea from treatments...

I bet, ....they're one of my favorite foods, aside from Avocado's! lol. Indeed, nothing is like home grown veggies and fruit, etc. Such satisfaction in eating what you grow. MANY more people, even in apt's., should be growing SOMETHING to eat, lol. The easiest in apt.'s is herbs and berries.... They make hanging strawberry baskets, ready to go, ...just hang em up and water! I have a couple links to good growers who ship for pretty cheap, if anyone is interested. TOMATOES is another one that are great to grow on the patio(if you don't have a yard). These couple purveyors I use also have GREAT tomato selections, including Black/Purple Russians, which grow up to 1 POUND, EACH in the beef steak style strain! lol......

Hahaha... Yeah, she might not be born ON the 4th, but that's true, people do go out of town for that one.... BUT MORE people are home at block parties, etc... My nephew's Bday is the 4th and there is a whole segment of the block party that is just for him, ......and he's felt the WHOLE block was partying for his Bday, at times! lol.

Update on the 'ROOF RACK PROJECT'......

First, I just hope everyone understands that I feel as bad as you that I've not been able to get this thing DONE..... Ok, even STARTED! lol....

I didn't share because I wanted to see if it will even work...... But the other day, the nasty rain storm cleared up for a couple hours on Sunday, and I RAN down to 50% off day at Pick-Your-Part...... I got a BUNCH of stuff.... but mostly for other things around the house that I'm doing(I'll explain some other time)...and then I got LOTS of those 'square nuts' that slide up and down the rails off of one of the rangers(Unlike the S10 ones I've obtained, these are NOT on 'pinched' bolts... so they come right out.

I also got another rack(I know, I know, but for 12$, just hear me out! lol).... On the whole lot, they ran out of room in the 'newer cars and trucks' yard(it's 4$ or something, rather than 2$, entry)..... and they put a Newer Suburban in the regular lot in Wilmington, CA.... I noticed they were much longer than my shell(OBVIOUSLY< lol), but I also noticed that they had 2 center support/mounting platforms on each side, aside from the front and rear ones---with drain grooves and then a properly angled platform to hold up the Side Rails.... I also noticed that the slide rail channels face UPWARD, which is exactly what I've been searching for.(I appreciate the heads up, Paul.... But the Cherokee Rack, while having the vertically facing channels, was rusted chrome and VERY cheesy cross bars.. I could flex them with 10# pressure, almost inverted... PLUS; Older Cherokee side rails are mounted right to the roof.... That would leave the Con-ferr having to be spaced quite a bit to clear the roof/shell)..... I mock fit it up there and it will work PERFECTLY, BEHIND the rear side window/next to it, and I'll be able to slide the Con-Ferr rack on and off from the back!

I just have to cut off the longer ends(it actually flares out a lil back there, anyhow, and would make it harder to mount the risers to)........

I feel this will be far more secure for my needs and handle the off-roading better, as the mounts will be vertically, through the top, into the sliding rails, through the Con-Ferr Cross Bars. I just have to measure it out on the ground with the Con-Ferr and then remove the shell and do it on the ground.

The cross bars(stock, came with the Suburban) are MUCH easier to remove, as you wont have to remove the rear portion, that will go through the fiberglass roof, in order to get the rails off... They pull up and are free/push down and lock into channel/cut outs in the inside of the side rails(I'll get good pics of this all, PROMISE!)... Here's the side-to-side rails.......

They're all aluminum(aside from the ends, obviously), and if I Need to mount things using just the cross rails I'll just cut them to fit whatever I do for the Con-Ferr measurements and then glue on these rubber strips I ripped off of a 2nd Gen 4Runner roof, then I can use them to haul skis, Christmas Trees, Wood(fence I'm building soon), etc.

I also picked these couple things, today, with my rewards at Big Lots and 20% coupon at Harbor Freight...........

I wanted one of these larger aluminum cases for tools, for 4WD'ing and round town bumps and such, because they just fly everywhere around inside of my drawer type box I have now... Plus, I can use all the extra stuff in there for my Canon stuffs or even my laptop on trips. It locks, but obviously I wont depend on that to keep someone out.

I also got an RV Dome light, from PepBoys, for 8$.... it's SUPER bright and will be a nice and easy install on the Rear Window Wiper Motor cover(I will also have quick disconnects for it and then hook it to the side panels in the rear/or roll bar/ so that when I have the shell off, which I do often in the summer, I'll still have 'constant bright light for the cargo/trunk'.

I'm also planning the Power supply outlets and such, got all of the supplies now, just have to get out there and do it. I'm going to AZ for a wedding with them from Thur. to Sun., and I will bring all the stuff to have it ready to bolt in/shrink wrapped/ready to solder and mount the Marine Fuse Block when I get home(Unless I have time to do it before I leave.... which I doubt, at this rate! lol). I also got a motion detecting 9-Flat panel LED light for trips, it's KILLER, and SUPER bright, and all 3- 3 light bars are multi-positional, so I can move them to suit my needs while Crashing out in the rear of my Runner at the Camp Sites!

Hope everyone is well!

If only I could just have a couple hours a day, it'd be done already. But, .... it's ok, want to drill once, ya know? hahaha.

Yeah, I hear ya... That's why I started thinking about that guy on here who did that. He used Junction Rails of Aluminum........ I think I have the link...

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...nstall-197292/

the ONLY problem with that is that I wouldn't be able to use an 'arched' crossbar when NOT running the cage, ya know? Still thinking it out. BUT, I am PRETTY SURE, ....if I put these side rails right on the roof, the rack would just clear the shell.... That would be ideal, I agree... But I'd still have the issue of 'no wind dam', like the yakima's offer. So I'd have to come up with something there... but for now, I just want to get it up there! lol.

Yep, I hear ya bud! Big concern for me, too... As long as it even BARELY clears, ...I'm cool with that. I can load it outside, when going on a trip. I now have the waterproof carrier that would sit in a section of the Con-Ferr Cage or even on the shell when just using the cross bars. Ya know? So I can seal up stuff up there when it's really moist out or on Winter trips(If I can ever leave the South Bay again! lol)

Well Mark if you where running the kind of low rails used on the heep... or those brushed alum. ones used in your link... there are Yakima/Thule "Towers" that connect to them that would give you the "arch" you're looking for... That's my whole plan in fact... that way you get a "normal" roof rack when you want one and a clean low drag surface when you don't.

It wont be long before the grandkid gets here. Found out what it is going to be yet?

The picture of the Strawberries just killed me. One of my favs is Strawberry Short cake. We are just now starting to buy seeds for this years garden and you have all of the fruit trees out there. You are so lucky in that area.

Looks like the rack is going to work out for you. Glad to see going your way. I know you have put alot of thought into it. You are making great progress, keep up the good work.

YEP! Exactly.... So I've been really thinking on this and I believe I can mount these Suburban side rails directly to the roof and just clear the basket. Have to do one more measurement, but since I'll be using heavy duty rubber bushings, sert-washers and more, above the rails... I think it will clear it and give about 1/2" in the center of clearance, 2.5" of clearance on the edges. We'll see. I have to straighten the side rails a lil bit, they're SLIGHTLY arched.... but I think that will be easy enough. Seeing that the slide bolts will be on a thin/hard rubber washer, with sert-washers going into the rail tracts, I don't think the slight angle of the tracts, vertically, will be an issue either. I tell you what.... that aluminum railing, when you buy it like that guy in the link did..... While I can't find the exact style he has, that stuff is EXPENSIVE! And I paid 12$ for 2 8ft. strips of it! lol. That can't hurt, right? lol

IT'S A GIRL! hahaha. I guess the 'Girl Gene' is strong with us, eh? lol. I do have a grandson, so at least I have a go at that on the 'boy-Man sports' stuff, etc., right? lol.

Sorry bout the Berries... they're ALL YEAR on my plants.... I have several berries like that... I get berries from them every couple months. The weather out here doesn't hurt in the confusing of the plants, I know... But I LOVE EM, either way! lol

Thanks on the 'good work', Terry, lol.... I WISH! But hey, I'm at least trying to 'plan', if I can't 'do' just yet, right? lol.

My sweet Cuz, Sara, my Auntie Diann's Daughter, is getting married, tomorrow, in PHX, AZ..... so my mom is REALLY excited to see her Sisters and Nieces, etc.! So I'm taking her ANDDDDDD the Step-dad. This will be a bit tough.... but I've planned ahead in every way, to make it the least amount of drama/most convenience!

Long day ahead, .... so I gotta get going... But I"M SURE that Ervin will be out of it at times, so to let mom have fun, I'll stay back in the hotel and hit up the web, ya know? lol. I might try to hit a Yard while out there, some old stomping grounds and even my Alumni Peeps, ...who knows, right? lol. Probably wont have any opportunity or time for the latter, but it's worth a try, right? hahaha.

Take care, guys, .... have a GREAT weekend, YA HEAR???? LOL
