woops i forgot to say not to use the nutserts. mainly a picture of the the aluminum bars to use.

chef, you cant drove the basket on top of the cross bars that go from driver side to passenger side. lose the L brackets you have. and use the bolt that was bolted to the L bracket and bolt it to the cross bars

these are nutserts. they pretty much need an install tool but allows you to install a thread nut to anything you need, like the crossbar so it is easier to remove if needed

I was also saying to install new nutserts on the s10 crossbar.

Now, if you want to use those l brackets that attach using the s10 nutserts that would be nice, then you could move the rack back and forth on the channel.

I wouldn't worry about not having the last clamp attached to the rack for support, you still have two which most baskets have. If capacity is a concern not using the last clamp, usin a more rigid material for the floor should help.

(I'm not sure what you mean, here(which I highlighted in green)....If I lose the Con-Ferr L-Brackets that are bolted to the Con-Ferr Crossbars in the last picture i posted...You are saying to mount the Con-Ferr Cross-Support Bars directly to the S10-Crossbars??? Sorry man, I'm not trying to be difficult, just making sure I get all my options straight before I decide to do the 'most secure/most appealing' install with the highest weight capacity. Ya know?

My neighbor was saying that I could mount the 8 lower portions of the L-Brackets(the portion that is supposed to sit on top of the gutters) directly to the roof, using strips of flat bar(or something) under each flat tab and inside the cab to make more even distribution of weight and less risk of crushing the fiberglass.

I will do a video explaining everything I have so far and everything I've had suggested to me(within the best of my ability to discern, thus far). I think that way there's nothing left to guess, ya know?

YES! Once the rack is mounted figure out where you want the basket to sit on the rack. Baskets usually have multiple mounting adjustments because they are made for a variety of vehicles. But we all know once we mount, that is where it stays, and your basket is quite large so there will be one ideal location for weight distribution.

Ok, .... I guess i thought you said that^^^meaning that I should mount through the L-Bracket holes directly into the slide rails of the S10 rack, via the nutserts. I figured that would support the S10 Rack from side to side, just fine..... But seeing that the S10 cross bars are arched, It just seems a bit strange mounting to them(especially since they're plastic in the center/top).

Again, I'ma do a good video with lots of options, etc., and then it'll be all out there. Also, I'm thinking of mock mounting the S10 rack to wood, hoping to get a good idea of how well the S10 can support the Conferr with some weight in there, etc. I could do that when I have a spare day and I would feel better of how secure/solid it would be, ya know?

Far as the plastic for the bottom, instead of wood.... I'll look into that.... Gotta go back to your post and then look from there for some sites

Not to say that it couldn't hold some weight, but I wouldn't depend on a 200lbs sticker posted on the side of a rack that was attached to a metal and reinforced structure.
I did forget about the rack crossbars being arched, you could probably shim the basket so it sits flat to the arched crossbars. Perhaps in your case I would make new slim L brackets to connect to the conferr much like the gutter mounts but they would use the crossbar mounting system like you described before. Some angled aluminum would probably suffice.

Well, I've been searching in my spare time, and I think I found the way I'd like to do this. It would be 'w/out' the S10 rack, at all....... but I think considering the weight of my Con-Ferr/Plus Lights/Plus lil extra for the platform, I will be going with something like this...... 1st Gen 4Runner Large Cage Mounting System

I think that would be strongest, not to mention I could pull it off fairly quickly. There aren't TOTAL details in that post, but I've got some ideas of my own, including new, shorter L-Bar and mounting them onto some L-Bar with holes that would be mounted on top of the mounting platform(similar to what's in the pics in the link).....

What'cha think??? lol........... seriously, let me know.

Looks interesting chef... but I think I'd prefer some sort easily detachable system that did'nt leave a hole in the roof so I could take the rack off when not needed.. those things will kill your mpg numbers...

As aviator said, but you could make it easily removable.
I would make cleats that bolt to the roof of your runner, that will stay on the cab all the time. Make those cleats so that they align with the crossbars on the basket, this also will make bolting and unbolting the conferr a one person job..
Also, the roof of the 1st Gen 4Runner is slightly curved...FYI.

PLEASE..........don't think I'm dogging the V6, lol. I know it gets a terrible rap, but I've had friends with them whom never had a problem(within reason of course... Very reliable when they were rebuilt properly with proper torque values, etc.)

It's just that I"ve enjoyed working on the 22RE so much more... it's just SO much simpler, IMHO, when it comes to home and on the road, especially(Plugs, knock sensor issue my friend had/OMGOSH! lol, etc.). I didn't really try to talk him out of it... just tried to ask him if he'd tried his light boat trailing loads with a 22RE, instead, ya know? lol.

RB, I like the idea of the perma-tabs, for the rack. It would be EASY to remove and they wouldn't be too ugly or anything. In fact, I might even do a dual purpose mounting. (so I could put a regular style rack on there, too, like the S10, for round town, Christmas tree stuff, etc., lol)

Hello Chef..Just checking in, havent been able to give any good info on the roof rack so havent been saying anything.

You dont find them that clean out here. As far as the 3.0 I had a 91 with one and loved it. I myself like working on the 22re but would just let him know the differences. Every 3.0 I have seen is high mileage. Never seen a low miles truck.

Hope you get the roof rack worked out.

He found a rig, ... Rootbeer Metallic Brown, 89, 168K, 5spd, 3.0 with a header kit for 2300$... Not bad, eh? It runs really well, GREAT compression(tested it there) and it's good to go on the road, for now.... I think he really scored. He's a computer illiterate, so I'm trying to just get him to upload pics,... but we'll see, haha.

On another note........

I have a buddy that is a body specialist.... Specifically, he handles all the fiberglass. He said, he's really busy(and he's 50 miles away), but he'll try to stop by soon and bring some stuff he uses to reinforce fastenings in fiberglass, etc.... We'll see. Till then, I'll try to wire in my Aux 12v connectors... Gotta have juice to the toys on the trips, ya know? hahaha.
