Hey guys, ...THANKS, SO MUCH! Wish I could just hang out with everyone in person, ...update, shoot the ship, etc.

He is done with surgery, .... 7 hours, triple bypass, aortic valve replacement.... went extremely well, and he should be woken around 8:30 for the first time, tonight. HARD recovery, but not as lengthy as most might think....even at 84!(Surprised to learn that age/within reason/ doesn't have as much to do with it as people think...Hmmm... lol). Anyway, I AND MY FAMILY GREATLY appreciate the thoughts and prayers!

I will update as I hear stuff/visit him in the morning most likely.

Thanks again, guys, means a lot, as many of you know!

Mark

THANKS, GUYS!

Overnight, after surgery, they began to slowly pull him off the 'STUFF' (propothol, etc.), and got him breathing on his own, and now, he'll be in a chair, today, doing chest/cough arm exercises in a chair, sitting up, then walking later in the day. I'll update later letting you know how that's going....(rehab is often more difficult than the actual surgery.... However, no news is good news thus far)

Just need to see, first hand, what's going on, before I can update properly.

Thanks again, guys,

Mark

Thanks, Jerry, Jason,..... and boy, as I know very well(mom had a stroke in 2007 and Stepdad had one in 2003).... getting lengthy REM sleep is rare, especially, apparently, after open heart surgery.

Health wise, physically, he's doing ok. He's been walking a bit more, but the 2nd and 3rd day were rough, pertaining to periods in the day where he just couldn't hardly stand on his own... and because, now, he's having pretty unusual hallucinations/OCD going on. I've read several cases of this, and it's largely due to a multitude of things including drugs/lung-heart machine that was used/lack of solid-lengthy sleep.

Unfortunately, it's freaking my mom out a bit,... which, of course, wears here out pretty hard, mentally/emotionally. I printed out the multiple cases of this strange behavior,.....and that helped quite a bit, but she wont be comforted MUCH until she sees him come out of most of that.

They're talking about sending him down to Physical Therapy Inpatient Floor for a bit, maybe a week, due to his diabetes/former stroke/neuropathy in the legs due to diabetes, etc. BUT, seems as if they're entertaining NOT doing so and sending him home sooner than I'm comfortable with.(I know, it's common, more and more.... I've been through it twice with my mom and Ervin... But both times, knowing what I do about them, personally/what's not normal for them/ I warned that they'd be back..... and sure enough, they were, once, with my mom, after appendectomy, after a pretty good scare before having to return to the ER and stay another 4 days.)

Anyway..... He's a tough dude, which I'll expound on a bit a little later(his story, AMAZING).... And, he's been found on the floor 2 times cuz he got up and tried to get out of bed in seconds(even with bed alarm). Neither time was he hurt.... which is good, but GEEESH! lol. I can tell he's going to need extensive therapy, even after going home. Hopefully, they'll work on his legs/nerve damage, as well, ..... as it's not really likely that he'll be able to do the exercise that he needs if they can't help with the nerve-numbness(.... lil scary/sad, because nerves die,...and they don't really come back to life, ya know?... He's at "Severe Nerve Damage due to Diabetic Neuropathy)

Thanks, alot, guys!

Mark and Family

Just stopped in to try and catch up on your thread Mark. Glad to hear it's all good news so far after the surgery. Good to hear he's a "tough dude". That can make all the difference in therapy.

Mark...been a few days, but hope all is well. there is a true disorder called "ICU DELIRIUM" which can and frequently does occur.

although I'm in the business, my business is ER....not post surgical care. so I can't really offer much in the way of insight as to what may or may not happen. I can tell you that I have encountered MANY older ''bucks" who rejuvenate very well and can withstand A LOT. My mother is an old Polack who fits in that category as well.

Good luck to you guys as you move forward. hope progress is swift and he does exponentially better with each day that passes.

Thanks, guys, VERY MUCH!

Well, ......his behavior is certainly remaining an issue. He is really ticked off that he can't just go home.... taking it out on all of us(don't care about anyone but my mom on that end)... and hallucinating, etc., still(more so at night.... seems pretty 'OK' during the day).

Physically, he's doing pretty well.... They just have some set backs because his aggatation is slowing down his drain tube from getting to a point that they can move him to Physical therapy floor/section.(that will be at least 7-10 days, ....AT LEAST)... and he's already despondent, unruly, constantly trying to get up in spite of they're warning him that OBVIOUSLY, "you could be very hurt and regress severely" and "your drain tube will take longer, and as long as it does, we can't move you forward out of PCU."

Thanks for the thoughts/prayers... appreciated.

I actually have a lil-stupid update about the rig, lol... I'll post it with pics when it comes in the mail(teaser....."BOOM") lol.

L8r t8rs,

Thanks again,

Sincerely,

Mark and Fam!

Hello Mark...Sounds like he has enough fire in him to get him through this illness ok, so that seems to be a good thing. Being in the hopspital that length of time would get rough. It does make it that much harder for the family though.

Have a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving.
