My alternator quit on me today The good news is i have a spare laying around that came off of my 87 toyota that can get me through till i can get another...
My question is will my alternator off of my 87 22R work right on my 94 22RE?
Its a little dirty and gommed up, But ill clean it up before i put it on...Hopefully it can get me through till payday.
What do yall think?

Hmmm, I don't know. Maybe call Napa or someone and ask them how high the years go for the same Alt.? Is it "plug and play"? Same connector, IOW?

I don't see why it wouldnt work. It is essentially the same motor jus carbed vs efi. The only thing I could think of bein a problem is a different plug, but I don't think that they would do that.

OH REALLY?????????Jk, ...but honestly, I'm SHOCKED at how many things they changed from one series to the next(86-88, then 89+ were LOTS of things different, ya know?) I think it actually is different, Z, Bo,(the connector in YOUR harness, vs. the connector on the back of the Alt. ...but I HOPE I'm wrong, trust me!

Well on my 88 3.0 and 95 3.0 the alts were different. But I did pull the back's of them off and switch the plugs and it worked fine after that.

This might save you some money too:
Bad alternator? Write-up: Fix yours for $3!

BTW congrats on the new engine/tranny! We all envy you!

You're right chef , Unfortunately they did not match up.
The one off of my 87 was a circular shape plug and the one off of the 94 was an oval.
Darn you Toyota.

If i would of had enough time, this is the route i would have gone. But i had to be to work at 1:30 today and i started working on the truck at 11:00

I reallllllllllllly wish this would have been an option for me. If i was in a position to let the truck sit for a couple of days, This would have been my first move.
But with work and everything i had no choice . $154.99 bucks.
Thanks! I added it up and in the past month ive paid...

Transmission-$1250.00
Paying the shop for putting the transmission in while the motor was out, anti-freeze, oil, oil filter-$345.00
Marlin crawler clutch-$260.00
Flywheel-$60.00
Transmission fluid-$60.00
Motor mounts for new engine-$135.00 (Mine fell apart upon removing the old motor)
Inner and outer tie rods, tie rod sleeves, pitman arm and idler arm-$245.00
Alternator-$154.99
That add's up to $2509.99

There went my money for those 5:29's and 36's i was dreaming of lol

Anyways...
If i would of had more time i would have takin pictures.
But im pretty sure yall know what replacing an alternator looks like

Note to self...REMOVE BATTERY CABLES BEFORE TAMPERING WITH ALTERNATOR.
Because you will blow the 80amp fuse and it will piss you off when the truck wont crank. Haha.
Stupid mistake I guess i was just in to big of a hurry.

But let me go ahead and say THANK YOU to everyone who convinced me to get the marlin crawler 1200lb clutch. Its amazing! And the pedal is actually A LOT softer than the stock clutch used to be! I love it And yall have no idea how good it feels to have second gear back haha.
I just hope i can actually enjoy the rig now instead of dropping more money that i dont have into it right now.

Tonight the sway bar is coming off! Pics later.

Oh yeahhh...That just happened!

I experienced A LOT more body roll in the corners. But its barable.

Now...Ive got a question...Why the eff can't i get any flex out of my IFS????

I back up on a hill...

Nothin...

Drive up on a log...

Nothin!

I see a lot of people on here getting a lot more flex out of they're IFS than i am.
And these pics are AFTER i removed the swaybar.
Any ideas? Could it be the Rough Country 9000 shocks i put on? Cause they are reallyyy stiff.

You aren't even near the bump stop.

but try in a ditch.
Ive learned that the easiest way to flex FnR at the same time.
it could be your shocks if they arent long enough or dont compress enough

I did.
I purposely went through a ditch at an angle to make it flex earlier and the A frame stay just as flat as they always have.
Im wondering if it might be these shocks i put on. They are extremely stiff...Maybe they aren't compressing enough?
I dont know...i specifically bought them from rough country to accomodate for my 4 inch suspension lift.

I mean...That would cause the control arms NOT to flex if the shocks were to stiff right?

Yeah if the shocks wont compress then the a arms can't flex i would imagine.
You could try just pulling the shocks off to see if it would flex.

If your torsion bars are cranked at all then it will def. make it harder for you to flex

x2 on those shocks especially with them being nitro charged and not just gas/foam. Maybe the torsions, but doesn't appear they are cranked at all.

Torsions are not cranked at all.
And these shocks are extremely stiff. The ride is about the same with the new shocks as it was with the worn out shocks

you really arent flexing the ifs like that. you gotta do the rear end up and it will flex the ifs. try removing the bump stop extensions that you have on there. it also could be the shocks. but you can definitely get more flex out of that front end. plus, your only on a log
