92ehatch's 87 4runner build up
#41
Well i got sick again so not much done, however i did find a guy on Craigslist with some parts.
Got a good vafm to replace my bad one. I think it will work even though it's from the newer style 22re.
Got a Crank pulley bolt, mirror, climate control bezel.
It's different from mine but i kinda like it better.
I also picked up a newer style tb thinking i could use it but the iac valve doesn't work with the old style manifold. It says bad tps on the side but it tests good.
I cleaned up and adjusted my factory air valve instead. It tests good and will work fine
Good vafm from newer 22re i think will work fine if someone cares to confirm
Has a light in it but i think I'll just paint the cover with the body
Different from stock but i like it and is not faded out and cracked
I won't need this if anyone is interested in it or the tps from it pm me

Did you see any more runners in that junk yard?
Im not far from you or ladybug

This 100% drives me crazy as well. I can understand buying one wrecked and crawling it, but taking a good one spending thousands then running it is crazy.

I may run to charlies next weekend add the weather should be nicer as of the forecast right now

We just got slammed with 6 of snow inches this evening, did get to run around in the 4runner though lol
Im about 40 min. north of Johnson city, just inside Va

In fact we used to take this truck to a cabin he has just over the tn va line to fish hunt and ride 4 wheelers. Best home grown food and cooking I've ever had over there

Well work canceled today due to ice so i rented a hoist and pulled the motor out.
Next time I'll hook it closer, barely cleared the ceiling
Redneck engine stand 1x2's
When i took the pan off the timing chain bits were attached like this from a previous repair that didn't clean it out. I bet this thing was starving for oil.
Broken teeth on chain sprocket
Made in China
And it shows

I've got a hoppyum ipa from foothills brewery in Winston Salem. Yummy it is.
I'm contemplating painting the top, bumpers and grill black and removing the chrome since the windshield chrome is garbage but I'm afraid I'll ruin the original look of it. Opinions?

I think it would look good with a black top and de-chromed. It will give it a personal touch without straying to far from the original color scheme. I can see wanting to keep it some what original since it was your grandfather's, and you probably have good memories with him in it.
If I was keeping the original color on mine I'd probably do the same thing, but I'm going to be changing everything lol.

For the top I'd use black satin. For the former chrome parts instead of black I'd probably go with Rustoleum Hammered Black which comes out a deep charcoal similar to the original 4Runner painted bumpers. My grill and bumpers of my 1st Runner had that and it looked great. What is your body color going to be or is that a secret? You could actually go all VA Tech right now and just paint the cap orange to go with your body color. LOL

No secrets on color. I think I'll try and keep it close to original. I haven't decided yet. Depending on how much the motor costs will decide alot. I'm super picky and if i color change the jambs will have to go to.
I am however getting super irritated with this inner fender. I was grinding the welds down and found a spot that didn't get penetration then blew a massive hole in it. Is a tough spot to weld in plus I'm extremely new to it.
I think once i get some decent penetration there and fill the hole up I'll just seam seal everything really well, under coat it and let it be. Cosmetics there isn't really important but my constant need for perfection keeps me trying to do to much.

Sweet!
I'm with y'all on keeping it original color- would you redo the SR5 decals, too?
Sounds like you're feeling better, too! And once you put a battery in there you'll mostly forget about the cosmetics of that inner fender- but one afternoon while changing your oil you'll look up at it and smile at your first adventures in welding.

So i was trying to fit up a battery holder and realized that the original must have sat on the part of the inner fender that turns upward. Because after i tacked in my frame the water bottle didn't fit. 2 hours planning cutting and fitting to have to undo it all and re plan
Gonna get interesting now
