Jerry I agree with mark if at all possible I would mount the cylinder then connect the line, I that for some reason is not an option I would only pry it into place as a last resort, good luck sometimes just stepping back and trying it later is enough, wish I had more to offer.

3 books...no mention of a sequence of how to do it. in fact, in my FSM, it says, on disassembly to NOT remove the line.

Brandon....yep...for what a PITA it is, it was better to sacrifice that old one for a new one.

after a barrage of phone calls while I was in the shower (5 of them), I am now home....maybe not working all day, maybe I am, maybe not, we will see....grrrrrrrr

and just to prove what I'm saying as far as my FSM instructions, I present to you 2 fine example of the in-depth instructions located in my FSM to assist the home mechanic.

removal, detailed instructions:

installation VERY detailed instructions. so if you are ever wondering WHY I have questions....this is what I am dealing with, it's a wonder we made it this far.

I can't see any photos at work so forgive me if i state the obvious.
I just did my slave, but i have a 2"BL, and with that it makes working on everything easier.

When i did my slave, i connected the line to the slave and let it hang for a few. I did not add any fluid to the system, other then the MC being bench bled, this helps me move the actuating pin into the slave so i could line up the bolts.
Then i disconnected the flex line retainer bolt(the one that bolts the hard and soft line together). this will give a bit more flexibility.
I then used my hands thru the wheel well(2" lift helps) and worked the hard line around till i could get it close cooperating/aligning with the slave mount holes on the trans.
Try to fit one bolt just get enough threads to bite, i put a bolt in with the slave at an angle, so it isn't touching the clutch fork. then i push the pin on the slave in and rotate it down to make contact with the fork. hopefully the second hole is closer to being lined up.
I know the slave is a PITA, and i would definitely use a line-up tool(screw driver) to persuade it into place. Just check your connections for leaks after you have messaged the slave cylinder into its new home.

Hope that helps

well..kinda.

1st off...the 1st pic says to "remove the cylinder and not disconnect the line"

2nd pic "reattach and torque to 9ft/lbs"

a bit short on details to say the least.

slave cylinder is on.....still was a huge PITA contorting my arms.....one from the rear of the truck, one from underneath it...anyways, got it on. now to TRY and get the line on....so many things moving around there, I'm certain i will get it cross-threaded. gonna walk away for a bit, have some coffee, 10 smokes and get back to it...in a bit.

curious rig we have set up to hold all the stuff in place, i will have to take a pic....breaker bar across the engine with the clutch line and all that's included hanging from it to keep it from constantly falling down.

so apparently I'm "on-call" at work. alot of good that does me..

so, in feeling like I can't get deep into anything today, at least until about 6pm, I'm really not feeling like getting 2-arms-deep into this thing again, especially with all the frustration I've had with it in the last 16 hours.

feeling bad juju today.

Man, sorry you're having the 'run around' today at work.....without being at work...... while trying to work on your truck! lol... Also sorry that thing has given you so many problems. GRRR!

With re-connecting those lines(obviously a TOTALLY different set up/spacial issue, as with my 22re), I usually grab the line a lil bit BACK from the flange fitting, maybe 8" or so,.....then at the nut as well, both by hand, manipulating until I can get it 'GOOD'2'GO'! Even when it's started, I hold it from the "LIL BACK" point, and it usually REALLY helps with leverage/avoiding of tweakage! hehe.

Best wishes, hope you have time! YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!

thanks Mark....the brake lines are in the way mostly so it's alot of contorting. my arms are so sore and scraped up and hands so embedded with oil that I'm kinda shameful looking.

taking out some frustration , cleaning my home ''office", shredding junk mail etc.

I've had ENOUGH of this stupid ass clutch line. after numerous failed attempts, I quit. even took the starter off for more room. secured loosely the whole contraption this stuff comes from. can't get it.

Brandon, where the hell are you? I'm gonna need your expertise for this. I can't get past this and I'm super p-o'd.

WOW, I did not expect this to still be pestering ya! HOLY ANEURISMS, RN-MAN!

So sorry you're stuck on this, Jerry... two minds are usually better than one... the two of you'll get it, ya know?

You removed the clutch line from the slave and mounted the slave, .....I think you said, and it is just too cockeyed to even get close when you did it that way, right?

Is it possible it got tweaked in the process of all you've been doing, pulling the motor, etc.? Seems like it might have, or maybe it's not cooperating cuz you've not tightened the motor mounts yet?>>> changing clearances, etc?

I hate breaking the hard line loose or really discovery it because they are such a pain to reconnect.

up before the birds again....

Mark......I can get it to line up, but apparently NOT perfectly. I can get about 1/2 turn out of it with my fingers, which got so sore after so many tries I had to put a glove on to try. I am really afraid of ruining the threads on this thing. Joe suggested removing the line from up above and getting the slave lined up and the re-attaching the line above. I told him all we would be doing is changing the location of the problem....with even LESS room to work.

like i said, i can get it lined up, turned about 1 1/2 times and the "pop", it pops back out.

if i could get my hands around this stuff, that would be great, but i can barely get my fingers on it.....and the wrench can only get about an 1/8th of a turn's worth of room to work with.

this stupid thing as us stalled. i have the time to mess around, but i would rather be putting the header on.

transmission and motor mounts are NOT torqued yet, and I'm super p-o'd that we had to remove the stater again.

VICTORY!!!!!

sorry Joe....but I do my best thinking when I'm by myself.

2 arms inserted from the top of the motor, and I was able to get it on. SOB is tightened on and better NEVER give us an issue again.....unless it wants to be replaced by a better looking and newer line.

anyway, time for a shower.
