JUST DO IT! ...........oh, sorry, watching too much TV last night I guess, lol. Anyway, ..... "YOU CAN DO IIIIIIIIIIIIT", ....dangit, there I go again, ........Ok, one more try, ............"LET'S GET IT ONNNNNN!",.......ok, forget it.... UFC? yeah.... was catching up last night. hahaha.
Seriously... you CAN do it, ....but if you're just WIPED OUT, sometimes it's best to wait till you're fresh, man!(I guess I would know this, wouldn't I?) lol. I was gonna head out and engine-clean my t-case, ....... my friggen head is splitting open, nearly, and so I think it's best that I wait for a dose of chemicals til a later date. IT'S RUNNING, good enough for now! lol
Honest, BEST WISHES on the rest, man, ...you're flying!

O....pretty aggravated. CAN get most of the tranny bolts lined up and finger tightened, no prob, no binding. afew of the smaller diameter ones, not so much....especially the ones to the stiffener plates....thinking maybe I should remove or loosen them from the motor and attach them to the tranny loosely on both and go from there.
objections?
objections?

Can't approve...........................nor object, ...no idea what you're talking about! lol. Stiffener plates? Hmmmm, ...anyway, sorry bout that, ....REALLY frustrating indeed. But, at least it's not my dilemma a year ago.... Putting the FIRST rebuilt cherry of a turd in there, ...remember?>>> Napa gave me the wrong MOUNTS! They were too tall...nothing I did would make them fit! grrrrr! LOL.
BEST WISHES, HOMIE! Let's get ready to rumblllllllllllllllllllllllle! GEEESH, sorry, ..... again with the MMA jargon! lol.
Hey Joe,..... go out there and show him how it's done, k? lol.

ahahahaa.
Mark...the stiffener plates are little metal supports...almost like little shelf brackets that go from the bottom rear-most of the engine to the bottom of the transmission.

I like to give your thread it's due diligence.....like to take my time reading it, since it moves so fast. i'll be right there.

if you havent. i would highly recommend getting a Starter Heat Shield Wraps with those headers. i have the same headers and the starter is now even close to them. also it would be a good time to wrap the headers as well to keep the heat down. the header pipe on the pass side runs really close to the brake lines. i also put some heat shield tape in between just in case

92 TOY "thanks" BigBluePile for this post. Jackhole
gonna do some on-line shopping for the starter.....best price on a Denso 1.4kw I found was on spark plugs dot com (i think.....and no core charge) and Advance Auto with a core......never had problems with the starter but the thing was / is so caked with oil that I just want to ditch it.
as far as the header wrap tape....yup...definitely going to do that, as I have read and been told that it comes close to the starter and the brake lines...as well as the passenger's side floor.
can't do the passenger's side until I get a starter and a slave cylinder, can't do the driver's side until I get the exhaust cutting tool from my friend. I may just do a rough-cut on the driver's side to get the header in and do a more precise cut for fitment of the rest of the piping.
passenger's side is very cluttered right now with all the vacuum lines, fuel rail stuff and whatever else I had pushed over to the side to get the motor in.

we went out, took some measurements, went down the basement, unloaded the headers. took some measurement and went to work.
used the sawzall to make a 1st cut of the current exhaust down-pipe so as to not cut off too much at once. just enough to get the driver's side header in. no prob.
fitment.....grrrrrr.....had to take off the top 3 exhaust studs and the engine hook on the driver's side.....I see this as being much more nightmare-ish on the passenger's side.
anyway....not really impressed by the quality of the Doug Thorley gasket, but if it works , that's all that matters. instructions say to use high temp RTV.....and I will...just not today...basically mocked-up the driver's side so that when we do get to do the passenger's side we will be ready. so it's not torqued down, but it is tight.
wondering of there is a reason TO NOT use the Toyota gaskets I have. they seem much more substantial...and better looking to boot.
in other news, spent about an hour or so researching and frustrating and confusing the starter and slave cylinder stuff........may just go with the Duralast Auto Zone stuff after all.
so here's a pic of the driver's side header in place:
and here's a pic of the OEM gasket from Toyota versus a rubbery one from Doug Thorley
EDIT:....6 layers of sandwiched metal on the OEM gasket....seems better.

OK...answered my own question.
I can clearly see that the OEM gasket will NOT work because of the contours of it versus the straight lines of the header.
DT header gasket it will be.

Man, that's a lot more room that I thought we were talking about. But, yes, I know, ....looks on here can be deceiving, right? lol. Man, ......... that is one SICK looking set up. MORE PICS FROM DIFF. ANGLES, PLEASE?????? lol.
Far as the starter and slave stuff.... why not just 'CALL' Napa, my friend? They're usually pretty good at telling you whether it's "Japan/Made by Aisin for Altrom" (Insert Denso on the Starter on that one), ...maybe they can help?

The header looks like a nice fit. I agree with Chef, it looks like alot of room, but we all know how that is, never enough room. Each piece makes it a little more crowded, but still a step closer. Will be watching. If you got a possible time frame of when it might get started. Let us know. I would like to try and be online. I was on for the first one, maybe the second one, Third?? lol
