If I am understanding you right, it will heal with no further medical attention, so that is a good thing. Seems like I read somewhere that I am a year older than you. Just dont heal as fast as you used to. But I feel for you, them knuckle busters hurt and keep reminding you they are there.

tanx

yup. woulda loved to have it ready to show off at Rausch next weekend, but that's not gonna happen. because, even if it's running, still have to do a few things here and there to get it inspected

moving forward.....no pics though.

removed the heat shield from the driver's side of the bay. I thought I recalled that being necessary for the headers. anyway, even if it didn't need to be removed, it will certainly be easier to put it back with the motor in rather than remove it with the motor in.

while Joe was standing in the engine bay, we had the FSM and the HAYNES laid open on the windshield to work on the trannny......after some head scratching, Joe was able to get the clutch release bearing free and the clutch fork disengaged and removed.

a few concerns:

1) getting the pilot bearing out seems like an easy enough trick, so I see no issue with that, but what about getting the new one in? how can I get it in straight? A big socket?

2) when the flywheel was removed, we did not do any sort of marking on it so it will not be put on the exact same way. BAD. matters how much? (is not and will not be machined)

**********

still need a pulley puller.....did not leave the house today.....will call the Auto-Zone near where I work to see if they have that to borrow.

a friend at work will be bringing me some sort of exhaust kit he has......he said it has some sort of cutter and a reamer......won't need the reamer (maybe on mine, not on Joe's) but will need to make at least one, if not 2 cuts on Joe's to get the headers hooked up.

-need to torque the cam pulleys
-need to put on the dust covers for the timing belts
-need to get that crankshaft pulley off and put it back on
-need to put in the oil drain plug (that wouldn't be good to forget)
-need to install the distributor
-need to get the Toyota parts delivery so that I will have the motor mount bolts and dipstick O-ring
-need to flush and backflush the heater core.....cuz I want to
-need to find a BIG torque wrench that goes up to 181

if anyone can think of anything please post it.

It doesn't matter how that flywheel goes back on. I wouldn't worry about machining it too much as long as it didn't have a bluish tinge to it or it was grooved real bad. If so and if your using a new clutch (I forget) it will wear out the clutch pretty quick. Think warped or grooved brake rotors against new pads. Pretty much the same thing really.

With my pilot bearing, I just tapped it in place with a rubber mallet.

Well not really. lol The truck right now is out of my hands. Something I'm not really used to. Only involvement I am really gonna have on it is the placement of the upper shock mounts and the bump stops.

why would those things change??
I would think the bump-stops are straight up from the rubber stuff.
shock mounts , I assume can be more creative.

I had to extend them due to the lift spring so they don't flatten out on me, but the upper shock mount I think also has to be placed a little higher for now till I can figure out what I am gonna do to angle them in like this: / \ . Thats because I believe the shocks might be a tad too long on the compression stroke for where I need the bump stops extended to. I already did the extensions but it was a temp thing to get me to RC that one weekend.
