thanks....yes it is indeed pretty cool. Joe is gonna end up with an awesome 4runner. it's already there interior and exterior-wise but gonna have an awesome rebuilt motor too.
parts are expensive though as we all know, so a little here, a little there and while the weather is so dang cold we will keep accumulating stuff. hope to get back into this the end of March when it will be much more tolerable to work in the garage.
yes, I'm a puss.

Jerry what are you gonna do about the machine work on the block and heads? If you need me to, when the time comes, I can swing them up to the shop I had used. http://www.morgantiniracing.com/

I had gotten a business card for a place near Bloomsburg.....there's also a place in Berwick. If anything, I'm looking to get the heads cleaned up and checked....no real machining is anticipated considering this thing ran well, tested well and it's only real issue was leaking valve covers.

probably still gonna have to hone out the cyls though at the very least. I can do it for ya, but would rather see ya use a machine shop for it. Give Morgantini a call though to get a round about price. Definitely gonna want to have someone take a look at each though.

na mine with boring out, shaving the block and mounting the pistons on the rods I think came to like $250. And he hot tanked pretty much everything for me. So if you take it up there they will have the block tanked for you twice, once before and once after the honing process. You can take whenever to get tanked with the block as well. Oil pan, rods, pistons heads etc etc and wont cost you anything more. The way they look at it you already paid to tank the block so whatever fits is no charge.

My concern is this:
the heads will be bare....safe for tanking
the block, however will still have several things attached......
not sure what to say on this

Hmmmm, I'm confusededed.... lol. I thought you were fully rebuilding the short block, too....NO? Ok, well, that changes things........IT SHOULD BE READY FASTER! HAHAHA, jk.
You gonna re-ring, etc? If you're pulling the motor...why not do the lower end as well? Anyway, ....just curious, lol....it's your project! lol. I wouldn't wanna have to tear that thing down in 50K or something, after all you're going to put into it, ya know?

Chef had told me about www.dealerdirectparts.com and how it probably should be looked at to see if I could save a few more $$$
placed our order with them just a little while ago for the remaining parts needed for Joe's build.
part for part they were about even or a little more expensive but the difference absolutely was the free shipping for an order over $100. with our order sitting at about the $400 mark, that was easy to do.
total to my door $376.96 versus the other best prices of $399, $412 and $413. even my local dealer couldn't come close with their price being $487(me, picking it up)
so again, Chef (Mark), thank-you soooooooo much for your recommendation and now I too will recommend that site.
so Joe, all we left to do, is send out your injectors and we should be good to go.
just have to catch a break on the weather......probably late March going to start this rebuild ....again and pick up where we left off.

almost there. Call me when ya need me.
Maybe you can tear down the heads and have them looked at while your waiting for the weather to break.

Nice link, Mark, good work, Jerry. Heh, that 1st toyota parts IS my local dealer. I get decent prices on the yzzd3 oil filters there, as well as other stuff I have grabbed over the years. Next time I will have to print off the internet price and see if they will honor it.
Whens the big work day? Maybe me and Vitaly fly out to help? hehehe. Oh wait, its a 3.0. my tetanus is out of date.
