They are aluminum housings, I might upgrade the speakers down the line, but for now they are great.

Only minus is the clamp is fixed, so they are mounted a little low, but they still clear the rear seat when it's up.

You got it dude!!!
So is this motor together yet ? or does the fbpnw need to make a road trip?

I'm down to go to PA. Flown into Philly once before. I'll do it again

And yes, the speakers are sweet. Stereo is 6 speaker deep, and loud as hell. Awesome!!

Philadelphia is at least 2 hours south of us.

realistically, we are going to amass parts and do this probably in the spring when i can break out the pressure washer again. in the meantime going to stock-pile parts to make sure we have what we need, at the best price.

Best wishes, man.... I actually think that the way you're doing this, piece by piece in your spare time....it's really LESS suspense IMHO, hahahaha. But I hear 91, ....I'm a lil anxious to see yer Mini Me out in the snow wheelin it around! hahaha.

ya know what's aggravating.....I went to TOYOTAPATSBARN dot com and drilled it down to 1988 4runner and .....looking for the "engine overhaul gasket set"......it only lists 4cyl or in-line V6........not just that site but most if not all of the TOYOTA sites. in fact, the downloaded FSM does NOT even show the 3vze motor either, so i'm using the FSM for my truck to do this motor.......Josh (DEATHCOUGAR) said that aside from maybe some different sensors locations, they are essentially the same and i should be OK.

so the 3vze is elusive when it comes to finding stuff and info for it.

OK.... rant off.

Just a thought.... What I did was go down to the dealer, ask to talk to the foreman, and I quickly made friends with him... He let me take home the FSM for my exact truck with no deposit....but I'm sure if you asked, they, like mine did, might have a library of that stuff in the back...... Might just let you take it home and scan the pages. What I did was just take pictures(the book is big, didn't wanna hold it on my scanner, lol)..... took 200 pics, but didn't have to print them. Just saved them to my puter....took pics of the whole EFI and Ignition and ECU sections, along with all troubleshooting, etc.

My haynes actually has LOTS of info on your motor, Jerry.... not finding what you need in there? OH, also, I found an FSM in the library near me, .....but it's always checked out, lol. Not it's in some other library in Camarillo, CA(pretty far, lol). I can tell them to bring it back, but I'll just go down to the dealer again and borrow his book. He didn't mind because they hardly EVER work on these.

Just a thought.... best wishes, Jerry,

Mark

this is a post I just did on another thread

hey RED.....you still around???

I stole this pic from ya and drew on it.

surfing the internet I get alot of conflicting (OK, not really) info on the timing components.

almost pulled the trigger on a complete timing set from ROCKAUTO but then noticed a difference in the configuration of the water "?OUTLET" area that attaches at the top.

so i emailed TRDPARTS4U to see if they could give me a price. you ordered from them, I've ordered from them and fully intend on ordering from them again.

again, when I go on TOYOTA specific sites, it's like as if the 3vze engine never existed for 1988.....i get 4cylinder and in-line V6 (landcruiser!!!!!...why is that listed there?) as engines on all the sites...so it's very frustrating.

anyway....hopefully will get a reply so i can get a clue as far as $$$$$$ goes.

here's your pic I vandalized. yellow circled stuff is stuff i want prices on.

here's what I almost ordered from ROCK (notice the difference)....$101.79

and here's a different on from ROCK that does NOT include the tensioner spring (GATES Brand).....$90.99

and the CLOYES Brand from ROCK ($110.79)

I'm going to post all this on Joe's Build thread also.

EDIT----->>>>> I guess those must be file photos.....probably not of the actual parts for those last 2. so this is even more frustrating now.

Those kits look the same, other than the view on the ROCK one is different. The upper pully has two holes, one attaches to the intake manifold, the other to the upper radiator hose fitting.

Or am I missing the issue there?

FWIW, as far as I know, the 3.0 timing stuff is the same except for the timing belt tensioner. Early models (like yours) had the spring tensioner. Late models (like my brothers) have hydraulic tensioners.

no...you got it....it's the configuration of that water inlet thingy that's different.

the tensioner spring is conspicuously missing from those bottom 2 kits and impossible t find alone....for the most part...per my searching.

EDIT...I'm a dork.....I see the difference (or lack thereof)

so, I'm not too thrilled with the response I got from TRDPARTS4U.com of.

ME:
Order Number: Looking for a price quote shipped to 18655...YOTATECH MEMBER 92 TOYif that makes a difference....for

Complete timing components:
Belt
tensioner spring
all other components2 other pulleys

having trouble finding corresponding info on the site

Please respond and I can clarify if its not clear.
(**mind you...you MUST enter the VIN to even send a message, so the do have all my info**)

THEM:
Hello, you should be able to find the timing belts and other timing components on this site's catalog unless your vehicle is from other than USA.
and my response:
not the response i was looking for. i had explained my difficulty at finding my parts.
please re-read my email and please attempt to help me. this is not the kind of service i was used to having in the past from your business
This was not from Jacque either. And Jerone no longer works there.

I will give them a chance to make it good

haha nope just the inline 6 from the land cruiser. Why it's listed on the 4runner page is beyond me.

and by trdparts4u . com you mean toyotapartsales . com ?? BTW thats the same site setup the motorworld dealership up here in Wilkes-Barre uses.

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=215220

same issue with theirs. No 3vze mentioned on the 88.
