yeah 4 bolts, not sure but I had to pick up some longer ones for my 22r. I don't know what the thread sizes are though. the ones that hold the motor to the trans "might" be long enough. but I doubt it.

how about taking off one of the trans bolts and taking that to tractor supply company and have it matched up thread wise and measure the engine stand and see how long those bolts have to be. Leave yourself about 3/4"-1" of length to go into the motor as well. BTW that's the same engine stand I had I just can't remember what the length of the bolts I used were. And I believe those bolts I just sold with the engine stand when I got rid of it.

P.S. what is your plan with the trans? are we gonna pull the motor with/without the trans attached, are you pulling the trans as well?

hahahha...thanks Jason.

Ok...

to summarize....

yesterday was supposed to be the day that SWIMMERBOY came over and we were going to do stuff on his 4runner , but because of a family emergency, he had to cancel.

soooooooo.......being that the day was intended for that kind of stuff anyway, XXXTREME and I PM'd each other several times early in the morning and conspired to try to get something done. everything kinda lined up right......got hold of the Dr friend that said i could borrow the hoist, got hold of the brother-in-law that lives near him and got some help to load the thing......let me say...had to kinda "clean" his shed to unearth the hoist an blah-blah-blah and the drag it about 200 feet across his yard to my truck and then me, Joe,my brother in law and the Dr's wife helped load this in my truck.......by that point i was already physically exhausted.....and it was only 11am.

had bought bolts to mount up to the engine stand......12x 1.25 x 3 inch.....$4.40 each x 4 bolts.....not needed.....ended up using the transmission bolts anyway because they were just slightly longer....so i will try to return them, since we did not use them.

yesterday, every step along the way there was a hitch.....just about every bolt was a PITA and just about every bolt was just ever so slightly out of reach or at such a stupid angle it was a project to get it out. i'm sure there are people out there that could tell me you could get this motor out in a half an hour...........you are full of crap....and i will need you at my house when it comes time to put this back in.

everything is black.....not only painted black, but black and oily and cruddy....makes it nearly impossible to see bolts etc etc etc....

air conditioner was a PITA to pull off....got it and tied it and the power steering off to the passenger's side out of the way......next up was the starter.....another PITA....2 bolts and 1 nut.....i have no idea where the bolts were, XXXTREME found them and took care of them....the nut was another absolute pain because it was turning the stud inside the starter and making the wiring bind......struggle struggle struggle and it came free (and later the stud got fixed by XXXTREME too because he pulled it apart and fixed the starter up).

what in God's nae is the thing on the passenger's side that hooks into the exhaust and likewise has another thing piped into the transmission....whatever it is, it has to be removed from the motor and stuffed on the passenger's side along with everything else....3 bolts (2 unreachable) and the 1 nut holding that big pipe in place (XXXTREME got that apart while i was looking for my pipe wrench).

little thing / valve on the side of the transmission that the book says to take off.......did not look like it needed to come off.......it did, however, give us the ability to move around the above mentioned stuff we unhooked from the side of the motor......so, i guess it does have to be removed.

of all things......could not find the camera.....that's why yesterdays pics are cellphone pics.....camera found this morning and better pics to follow.

motor mounts:
wow.....how in the hell are we gonna get those back on......2 bolts each side......1 bolt each side was easy as pie to get apart, 1 each side was so rusty that it took about 20 or 30 minutes to get each one off.

TRansmission: what in THE hell????

had we removed the crossover pipe, there is a chance we may have reached the top bolts with a wrench. since that was not the case it became insanely stupid to try to undo those.......i don't know how XXXTREME did it....but, by virtue of a universal socket (1 of 2 since 1 got shredded and is now added to the container of broken tools).....i said each damn bolt was like a stupid ass algebra problem with angles and etc etc etc......he was the transmission man....and i was eternally flustered trying to get those......so he did that part.

when we finally did arrive at the time to get the hoist in place......probably after 7pm.....it did the job it was supposed to be......was another one of those moments when i said to myself that i have no clue how we are gonna get this back in.......had to yank several times to free the motor from the transmission........

he explained about the clutch and the flywheel (and the starter).....each subject i will educate myself on and get smart about.

so the motor is mounted securely to the stand.....the garage loos like something exploded because there are tools everywhere and i don't know if i can ever get my hands clean ( and this is an issue with the job i have......will have to spend the day "detailing" my hands).

besides all that......lightened up XXXTREME's truck by at least a hundred pounds (of dried mud) and got a better look at where he may be leaking oil from......appears to be oil pan gasket....we were gonna drop the pan and RTV it and then, instead just did Joe's truck.

and we also did the valve replacement trick / thing on his tire that had shredded a valve at the mud bug.....neat tricks...both to defeat the bead and seat the bead.

all in all a good day and a day that we used our time wisely....since SWIMMERBOY had to cancel........and i could not cancel the strippers that were coming.

OK......i will post up some engine pics later.
